Wut does the X stand for in PSX?
-
Xperimental I guess... can\'t remember if that\'s the official explaination. But PSX was the codename for PlayStation before it was released. It\'s never been named PSX officially though.

Like Sammy said, before it was called "Playstation" the name was PSX. It is common really for companies to have different names for a product durin\' different stages of its development. Take for example \'Project Reality\' was named \'Ultra 64\' and then later re-named to \'Nintendo 64\' because of brand name recongition. There is countless other examples (Katanna, Neptune, etc). The only big difference is "PSX" caught on and sort of became the un-offical, offical name.

i\'ve heard it\'s the development name for teh system, but i\'ve also heard it means playstation extreme. Dunno which one is true though.

Yes, it was the secret name of PlayStation before the launch of the system. It was knowed as PlayStation X.

Right, when it was still in development as a SNES add-on, the name of the project was PlaystationX. After Nintnedo screwed over Sony, Sony decided to beef up the hardware and launch it as their own 32 bit machine. They kept the X in the name PSX to spite Nintnedo.
