Title: Your Job
Post by: DarkchimP on July 30, 2002, 03:56:54 PM
I was just wondering where everyone here works and wether or not they like it.

I just got my new job at a hardware store (Home Depot) and it seems ok I guess.

I work at R&R Donnelly, a printing and publishing manufactorer. I was in the Bindery department (making the books / shipping) and was training for the Cover Feeder job (easy money!), until I found out two weeks ago that I was being moved to the PressRoom (where it is printed) and starting all over. It rather bties, because I actually enjoyed my job before this. I haven\'t even tried this new department, but I know already that it is going to suck, for the simple reason I had it made before.

Bright side? If a Bindery Cover Feeder quits, booyah! I can put in for a transfer and probably get it.

Either way, its a dead end factory job. I\'m thinking about goin\' back to school. Just not sure yet.

Don\'t frown. Once you get a job, you\'ll wish you didn\'t have one. Infact, you\'ll be like "damn, why do I apply for this?" and you\'ll realize that you spend over 75% of your life at work and asleep. The other 25% will pass by so fast and you\'ll have to repeat the same routine \'till you retire or die. It is pathetic really.

Stay a bum.

I work for the telephone department at a college campus and I sit in the frame room all day and tap into phone lines, hoping to listen to some juicy conversations.

I also do Cat 5/5E and optical fiber cabling for LAN networks and computer labs.

I kill people for money....I\'m not at liberty to discuss my current "job", but it pays well...

[/fantasy]

now that I\'m back to reality, I\'m a full time student, but on and off I do some personal training for people, and some (don\'t make a joke) ughh....modeling.  I don\'t like doing it, I actually HATE IT, but whenever I get low on cash I have to resort to it.  Seeing that I don\'t have much free time, getting paid 200-500 bucks for three hours of work is sometimes worth the humiliation.

They\'res Meijers in Indiana too. They\'re not Unionized like the IL, OH, and MI stores.. but it\'s not like any other retail outlet down here is either. I love em.. great service and decent prices. I hope they put one out in Warsaw so I don\'t have to go to Wal-Mart all the time. I hate Wal-Mart with a passion. Get this, they won\'t allow you put free newspapers and classifieds like "Employment Weekly or Better Homes of (whatever county)" in their doorway anymore cause they consider it soliciting. The corperation even made em take down the Missing Children board. What a load of shyt. I bet they\'re gonna kick the GoodWill Charity or whoever money collectors off of their front steps this christmas too.

Ok.. so that\'ll be a good thing.. but taking down the free papers and missing childrens board is jus cold hearted.

my official title is "precious metals trader"....

Basically, I buy, sell, trade gold, silver platinum, palladium...etc..

it rox, I spend part of my day on the phone in front of a computer, then I go into my "melt room" and melt down all the scrap gold, Ag, Pt, and pour it into bars to be refined. nobody bugs me back there cos it\'s dangerous & shit. Plus it\'s kinda satisfying to melt $150K worth of platinum into a button the size of your fist and carry it around the office. (BTW a button the size of your fist weighs about 15 lbs....)

http://www.jackhunt.com  if you go to the scrap section, there are pix of me melting sh!t....

PS please don\'t Haxor my site, I seriously don\'t have time to fix it...  ;)

It isn\'t a bad place to work, to be honest. I don\'t know what they pay in Indiana, but in Kentucky you start out at $10.54 (I think, thats what it is) and then go to up in six months and at the lowest level you can end up making $13 and some odd change within two years or so. Pretty good money for around here. The shifts suck here though, 12 hour shifts. Bright side of that is, if you don\'t pull any overtime you work three days (every other week you have one mandatory overtime day - Sunday, so four days that week) and then you get four off or three, if you worked your Sunday that week..Not sure if I explained it properly.

I thought about putting in application for Funco / EB and what not, but decided those people are too big of "elite assholes" for my taste.

I work at U.P.S, (usually pronounced UPS LMAO:rolleyes: )
Its basically glorified slave labor.  If you\'re a loader like me, you can only work 5 hours a day because of how grueling the job can be.  Right now I make $8.50 an hour, but its going up to $10.75

So its not too bad.  Plus its one of the few partime jobs where you get FULL health benefits, and paid vacations.

Retired now, drove a delivery truck for the past ten years and i loved it.Worked for a welding supply company, delivering gas cylinders and supplies such as wire machines replacement parts. Not the biggest paying job, but thats not why i worked for the company. You showed up, figured what i needed for tanks, wether it was compressed gas or a liquid gas pack. Once on the road i worked at my liesure,no one looking over my shoulder or telling me what to do.I made sure i returned with time to spare and ready the truck for the next day.Worked great till i injured my knee, slipped off the liftgate and bent my left leg backwards.Tore the cartiledge all to hell. Two surgeries and it has never been right, workmans comp lasted three years then had the stroke. So now my left side of my body is parilyzed and i can no longer work.Stinks in some respects but i get to sleep late now every morning. One thing is i would not recommend that as a way to lose weight,i ended up losing 45lbs from the stroke. Not the way to do it.

Not the way to do it.

As long as you like what you\'re doing. I can\'t see myself delivering stuff but I can see myself in a job where I work with people. Hopefully I get do to something with movies though.

Carpenter\'s assistant - mostly cleaning up after him, and doing the boring parts.

We are doing interior work (cabinets, desks, etc.) on a new bank.

In the summer I\'m going to work on a boat again. So much money, hard to turn down :)

Wow.  What a life you had been through.  Hopefully your injuries will heal up as soon as possible so you can be free again and do whatever your heart and mind set to do.

Control Pumps for stuff like, bays, pools, etc. Anything that uses water pumps we build.

The big blue unit is in melbourne zoo. As for the smaller unit. No idea where that is. But it would be to control anything that runs on a timer.

Hey Chizzy - is that gold scrapping worth it? My fiance has a bunch of rings and junk she wants to send to Goldkit.com or some nonsense.

well, we normally won\'t cut a check for less than $1000.00... but I\'d probably do $500.... you just have to have enough to make it worth the postage & so on.... I sort around $1+ million a week worth of old class rings and broken necklaces...

we will pay the most, I guarantee it, unless it can be resold as retail.

And such is the reason why I\'m strizzapped...G.

I imagine she will go ahead and do it. I really don\'t expect her to get much out of it, but she wants to, so oh well.
