Well, I\'m finally heading to New England Dragway today with a friend and I\'m going to run my stock 2000 Auto GT Vert. I figured the time is right since I ordered gears and I should see what this puppy can do before I start modding. :D
I\'m a little nervous about the whole thing since I\'ve only been a spectator.
I\'m taking video of the whole thing and I should be able to upload it tonight.
So anyone else ever take their car?

How fast could you possibly go if you Tack your car down to the track?
*Turns smart ass mode off*
No, but damn I\'d love to rip through those turns in my Ford Explorer.
-
Damn it,Damn it,Damn it,Damn it,Damn it,Damn it,Damn it,Damn it,Damn it,Damn it!!!
I hate it when that happens. I usually laugh at the dope who doesn\'t read their post before the hit submit.
Kind of funny though.
Well this just the quarter mile. I need to see what this car can do so I know if my mods are making a difference.
Again, damn it!!!

well I\'d love to but my viper\'s stuck in GT3
-
What\'s a "2000 Auto GT Vert?" The GT makes me think it\'s a Mustang.... ?
-
*thinks about editing the thread title for Ace and fixing it..*
*decides not to, because it is just so funny*
*thinks about editing the title and putting quote\'s around the tack part..ohh..good idea..*

Oops!
Forgot to add Mustang. I just figure everybody knows what I\'m talking about when I say GT.

I\'ve taken my sleeper to the Sacramento drag strip, first time was stock and I pulled high 15\'s. Second time was with exhaust, stickier tires, and a modified air box w/ home made cold air and I ran some high 14\'s....I also didn\'t spin the tires this time around, because I relized it didn\'t look nearly as cool as I thought it did ;) . Third time I was up against a 5.0 mustang and I torched him, while onto the time of 13.8 sec. I later added some methonal to the gas, bumped up the timing and adjusted the Manual Boost Controler to 13.5#\'s and ran 13.27. After I get my water injection going, I should be running 12\'s. (also my last trip to the track had some mods done, that I didn\'t list)
-
Well, I have to say I was pretty nervous on my first run.
My times stunk, my reaction time was about as good as an eighty year old blind man. I guess next time I won\'t tack my car to the track. ;) What a freak\'n rush though. :D
I didn\'t expect much my first time and I was right. Let the modding begin.
If you look closely you can see my misshapen clown head. And you thought that was just some pic I found for my avatar.

BTW, theomen, those are some nice times.
Will the need for speed ever subside?
Ace
-
Those really are great times, theomen. After my 60k service in the next couple months, I\'m going to begin modding my car. I don\'t want to put toooo much into it, maybe $2000 for parts and labor. I can only hope to get into the mid 14\'s - until I get a beefier car, that is.
-
w00t, I\'ll race anyone w/ my Nissan Xterra.
I will OWN you!

I shift mad quick, y0!

I feel as though the need for speed is a great alternative to other addictions. Also when your hitt\'n over 105 in the quarter, and your getting tunnel vision from the speed, you can\'t hear anything but the whistle of the wind and the roar of your engine, there is no greater "high". Heroin, crank, crack, please, just give me 14 pounds of boost, in a 2300 pound 4 banger with over 300 horsepower, and 340lb feet of tourque.
the one thing I don\'t like about my car is that I can\'t take it in the twisties yet. I\'ve been focusing on power mods, and NOTHING for handeling. Also the turbo lag catches up with me half way through a turn, and will try to launch me into a ditch every damn time.
Sara; what type of car do you have? and what mods are you looking for?
-
I have a 1993 Mits 3000gt SL. Naturally aspirated, 222 stock HP.
V-6, approx 3300 lbs.
I\'ll start with a K&N FIPK, then either a custom or Borla exhaust kit. If I can find a good mechanic to do the installs, I\'ll get a new underdrive pulley and downpipe. The parts for the aforementioned will be around $1000, but I can\'t do any of the installs, so labor will probably kill me.
In the next couple weeks, I\'m going to order a short-throw shifter, which I can install myself - $111 shipped.
I don\'t really understand why I want to do all this, as I\'m not really into racing. I\'m afraid to go to a track and have a bunch of people watching me, and I especially don\'t want to race on the street - don\'t want a ticket, don\'t want to kill anyone. I guess I just like the idea of having a fast, un-stock car.
-
Sara, will you marry me?

Do yourself a favor and go to the track.
I was pretty nervous yesterday so I had my friend, who has been to the track many times, ride with me for the first run.
After that I was hooked. The adrenaline rush is intense and there is no better feeling. Well I can think of a better feeling but that\'s another story.

What car do you have theomen?
-
I have a little known car, it\'s a 1989 Dodge Shelby CSX (Carol Shelby Xperiment) It\'s a Dodge Shadow, that Carol Shelby put his hands on...thus making it good :D. Stock it had a 2.4l OHC four banger, mitsu stage II turbo, and front mount intercooler. But I have moded it a bit now, not as much as I would like though. I\'m currently planning on installing a larger Cummings Deisel intercooler, water/alcohol injection, and possibly a super 60 turbo, along with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
Between my BB supplements, and car parts, I HAVE NO MONEY!! it\'s a sickness I tell ya. Luckily I never pay for labor, except for welding.
-
I wish I had a car :( I\'d probably put it on some sort of race track.
-
Ace! Go up there Augst 9th if you can, there is gonna be a damn good show. We are having a huge Audi Aftermarket Event in Danvers on the 10th, but all the best of the best Audis are going to the drags that friday night. I highly suggest checking it out.
See some wagons run a 12.5 quarter mile is always fun!!!
-
I\'ll try and get up there. I\'ll see if I can get a couple friends to go as well.

I have a poor ol\' Subaru Forester that\'ll kill any 240SX, unmodded. Where can I go to find mod parts for it? And do u guys think I even should? Its a 4 cylinder. And it handles GREAT, Subarus 4wd system is marvelous.
-
When you said track, I thought you meant "Road Course".
Ah well....some of you know my opinion about driving fast in a straight line. ;)
Anyone can do it. :p
A road course?
Well.....that takes a bit more skill. :D
-
I would love to do that someday. I\'m just trying to get this dog to run a little faster. I have gears waiting to be installed, and then I think I\'ll install pulleys.

I guess yer not familiar with 240\'s with SR20DET\'s.

I just wanted to let you car guys know that I installed my chip. I can only say one thing, WOW!!!!!
I was a little disappointed in the gears after they were installed. I just didn\'t get the kick in the pants I thought I was going to get with 3:73s. With the chip it\'s like a whole new car.
Well, I just got back from the track and I\'m pretty happy.
My best time for the night was a 14.736. My best time before my recent mods (chip and 3.73 gears) was a 15.365.
I really want to get into the 13s.

Sweet man...keep on pushing it..13\'s make for a fun street car!!
-
Thanks!
I\'m officially addicted to the track now. I think pulleys are next. I\'m also thinking a new muffler system.
Between videogames and cars I need a second job.
Ace
-
yeah a 13 second street car is unimaginable fun, and lucky for you, you\'re easing into it, so that you don\'t have to instantly have to get used to driving a high powered machine.
I unfortunetly had a bad experience when I started my mods. Within about 2 weeks I went from a mid 15 second car to a low to mid 13 second car. And only 2 times during my mods did I drive it hard, both times at the track. After I had my mods finished up, I went to the parts house to drool over things I would like to buy, and on my way there I was going through a stop light and it started to change. So I just womped on the gas like I normally would, but instead of the car speeding up a bit, it spun the tires and the torque steer almost launched me into the curb. Luckily I was paying enough attention to correct myself and not wreck. After that, I relized that I should get to know my vehicle a bit more, and get used to it before I killed myself.
-
Good points theomen!
I\'ve come close a couple of times doing something I wished I had not. It\'s very tempting to let it loose sometimes. The only problem is getting killed or worse, killing an innocent.
I try to keep at the track, but it\'s so damn hard. :)

I know what you\'re talking about. When I see a Honda Civic with a big ass spoiler and a 3" down pipe I really have to stop myself from blowing their doors off.
-
Yes, I have the same feeling, but is there a more noble cause?
Ace
-
My car is not that fast to be running in the 13\'s yet or even beating Mustangs, but my car can hold its own. I drive a 2k2 Acura Rsx type-S.:)
-
mustangs arent much to worry about..untill money is spent on them..even still..pretty easy to tear a lightly modded stang a new one.
-
I\'m with luckee on this one, I have never gotten much of a challenge from a Mustang. I also don\'t know why people buy Mustangs, Camaros are a far superior performer for the money. With basic HP and torque numbers a base Camaro=Mustang GT. And imo the stylings really don\'t differ enough to go for the Mustang.
Anyways, about the only car that\'s gotten close to beating me on the track was a squeezed Prelude. I didn\'t know what the hell he had, and still all I know is that he had Nitrous....or as many of you out there might say, NOS...but he was pretty quick.
Don\'t get me wrong when I say I haven\'t been beaten, there are deffinetly faster cars out there, I just pick my battles wisely :D I\'m not gonna race someone who has a blown 427 in a CRX.
-
wanna race my lowly POS neon? ;) Or perhaps my shitty c-rex?
-
Yes the Mustang GT needs work and money to be as fast as a lot of us would like them to be, but I think style wise there\'re a pretty car. I also have the added benefit of dropping the top on a nice day.
Mustangs have a cool heritage that people dig. That\'s why people buy them. At least that\'s what I think.
I just don\'t get the guys who overdo the body kits/decals, etc.(pretty damn ugly in most cases) with nothing under the hood.
Take a look at the new 03 Cobra. It\'s a beauty and anyone who likes cars should be drooling when the hood is open.
