From Sony themselves: http://www.scea.com/networkadaptor/index2.html
Availible this month with a free copy of Twisted Metal Black.
-
*drooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool*
Come on SCEE.. Spill it! DO IT! NOW! :)
-
I really hope it\'s worth the wait. I\'ve never even played Tony Hawk 3 online so this kinda peaks my interest.
-
What day is is released?????
-
I just hope all the new online games will work with my current USB Ethernet Adapter setup, doubt I\'d buy the PS2 adapter yet since it doesn\'t add a hard drive if the new games work with what I already have.
-
its coming fastson end of the month ects
-
Hmm.. I need to buy a hub so I can get my PS2 and PC online at the same time.
That\'s what I need, isn\'t it? Not really into all the networking gizmos.
-
Get yourself a Linksys Router with a couple of ports. They sell a 4-port for about $80-$90 and they sell an 8-port both specifically for shared DSL or Cable connections. You can connect as many devices to the router as there are ports (or you could add hubs/switches and connect up to 254 devices ;) ). Plus the Router will help prevent attacks against you PC.

Ah.. Good to hear. :)
Im hoping they\'re using the US plans. Seems the best and least expensive.

Alright quick question here. If my cable modem is upstairs on my computer and I wanted to use that same modem for my PS2 a hub would be the best solution instead of running wires all over right? Secondly if my brother is playing a game on the internet and I am playing on the PS2 will my game go extremley slow if he\'s on at the same time.
-
I have a question. If i have cable connection upstairs on my computer and a cable connection for my tv downstairs...can i just splice the cable connection for my tv into two cables and have one going to the tv and one going to the ps2?

Same here...i wanna see how i would fair against the rest of the world in that one.
-
darkchimp - you gonna have toi run wires regardless, UNLESS you get a wireless hub (more expensive)
kimahri - the PS2 network adaptor accepts a RJ45 cable connection, not what you plug into the back of yer TV (coax)

get a D-link router...you might need an ethernet card for your PC if you dont already have one
or:
a Small box that has a CAT5 input on one side and a USB port on the other and plug it in to your USB port
-
yeah, yer gonna need a router
-
whats that gonna cost?

If you got a Best Buy near you or a circuit city you can go there and scout prices......
-
ive seen two port hub\'s for less than 30$
-
how bout an ethernet card?
-
15$ for a good linksys
u already have one in yer PC if u have a cable connection (or DSL)
-
unless he is using a USB one, in that case it might be possible just to use the other ethernet out port for your ps2
-
it comes out on August 27th according to EGM and it should cost somewhere around 39.99.
I wish i had broadband, ima bug my mom i dont care what it takes im getting SOCOM.
-
Why would you need a router? Couldn\'t you just use a hub? I have 3 computers hooked up to my hub no problem. With DSL.
-
Do you still need Twisted Metal Black to Play Twisted Metal Online?
-
yer hub is probably a router vid
is is assigning ip addresses to yer pc\'s?
-
No, it\'s a cheap hub. At work I also don\'t have a router. I am running a single hub with 2 hubs running off of it going to 5 different computers. That\'s with a cable modem set-up though and they supply the IP address.
Linksys ethernet hub is the one I have here.

What? Is the Network adapter and HDD combined? I thought they made two different things!

They arent combined......infact the HDD isnt even confirmed to be released in NA.
-
Well, it might as well be confirmed. I mean, they ARE still planning to release FFXI stateside.. and that game has to be installed on a HDD. Unless.. that is.. Square decided to delay the game for all this time to figure out a way to keep it all running off the DVD for security reasons? JP people don\'t generally cheat too much.. or at least they don\'t do much harmful cheating. From my experience it\'s usually the US or EU croud. Mostly US tho.
-
yer joking right?
kekekekekeke!

The LinkSYS 4 port router switch is a beautiful thing. I can have my XBox, PS2, and GCN online at the same time along with my PC when no one is using the other computer. I\'m going to need some more network cables. Sigh, more wires under the TV. Oh boy.
-
OK...I\'m a little computer-illiterate sometimes, so let me get this clarified please...
I have a computer hooked up to a cable modem on my computer in a room down the hall from my TV that has a PS2 on it. Does this mean that I\'m going to have to buy a router or something, run 40 feet of cable down the hallway and around the walls, or what? Or I guess my question is, more precisely, hat is a router? What is a hub?
-
A router basically just "routes" your DSL or cable connection to multiple components or users. For example, a router can allow two PC users to effectively use one cable or DSL connection. It can also allow sharing of that same connection with as many devices as you wish depending on how many ports your router has. A 4-port router can allow for any 4 devices to share a single connection. You can have 2 PC\'s and an XBox and PS2 hooked up to a single network like I will soon have or for your single computer and all three consoles connected to it. You can even hook a laptop, 3 PCs, xbox, ps2, and a GCN to a single Internet connection if you wish with an 8-port router. Routers are just incredibly easy to setup and cost nothing for the investment it guarantees you.
You can go wireless if you wish, but those cost more and may perform slower than a standard network cable connection instead depending on any types of interferance, but it\'s all up to what you want. Network cables aren\'t that expensive in the first place and they are incredibly durable, much moreso than your standard phone line. If that still doesn\'t make sense, here\'s a nice little diagram of a similar setup I have, just with DSL and another PC instead of the Gamecube Internet connection:
Pretty simple. Even the software is a joke to use and takes no more than 2 minutes to setup on the main PC that controls the router itself and the rest of the items after you hook up your PC is just plug and play after that.
-
that looks like my setup but we have 2 other PC\'s hooked up instead of the NGC and Xbox..I have one port free for my PS2! 19 Days and COunting!

I bought a Gateway Router today so I\'m ready for the adapter plus I can plug in a GC when I get one. One last thing is there a confimed price for Twisted Metal Black online yet?
-
yeah, free
the sony adaptor comes with a mail in card for a free copy
-
How much does the cheapest router cost?
And can you simply remove the cable from your modem to your PS2, back and forth, as you use one from the other?
EDIT: Man I was checking some out and they ranged from 50-300 dollars.... I\'m really thinking about that second question... ;)
-
yeah, you can just switch the cable
-
You can switch the cables, but these routers aren\'t all that expensive. Heck, you\'re 16 now. You probably are a working man. You can afford it big guy.
I still don\'t think you need a router. I have a hub on mine and it works fine. Cheaper too.
-
The router I bought goes for 80 dollars now and it\'s considered the best for what it does because it doubles as a switch as well. I think you can buy a standalone 4-port router for around 50-60 dollars, a LinkSYS as well. (Do not buy a Belkin router!!).
-
I think I am confusing router and switch. hmmmm.
-
Yeah, I was looking at a hub that was only 50 bucks. I may just get that.
Too many damn wireless routers that cost 250+ dollars.
-
Wireless isn\'t always the best option depending on your locationg and what you have around you there can be minor interference that can cost you a quick death in an online game so beware.
-
True. Wireless costs me too much dough anyways.
[idiot question]And the PS2 Network Adapter will connect your PS2 and router/hub/modem?[/idiot question]
-
yes, it has a normal Phone-line connection and a CAT-5 conncection.

60 bucks. I don\'t see why people are saying this costs too much. It\'s all you need.
-
Ryu I just read through the thread and you basically explained everything I needed to know and a fashion that I, being the retard that I am, understood. Thanks :)
