When Neil Armstrong came from the moon people said, Hey talk! He didnt talk much.
One of the astronauts who came back from the moon, who looked upon the Earth from outer space, had to go to a psychiatrist. He said, why go to work? Why should we work? We\'re just wasting time
He saw how insignificant he was in the Universe. He realized there was more then the grass and mountains he had seen on the Earth. When he saw the Earth from space, he went into a nervouse breakdown, eventually comitting suicide.
I myself would love to see Earth from space, but Im not sure if I would be able to take it. Anybody else want to go to Space and look down upon Earth?
You will never be the same

I myself would love to see Earth from space...
You\'re not trying to tell us anything, are you? ;)
And I think I could take it, because I don\'t think it matters how small or insignificant your life is. How that would change anything, I don\'t know. Your life is still what it is, and you should enjoy it.
Besides, I don\'t buy that he killed himself for that reason. I think the moon men captured him, and got in his head... :sconf:
-
Actually... Clowd are you gonna kill yourself or something? Your posts comes across as eerily mellow.....
-
they got in his head, via the rectum
rectum? damn near killed him!
I have no idea what the hell I\'m saying....

I have absolutely no desire to leave this "lil blue planet" whatso ever. Even if it was a case were if I sayed, I\'d die.. like a meteor impact, rampant plauge, or uncontrolled genetic enhancment and cloning of Richard Simmons. I\'d rather die here than live in space. Besides, I can do all exploring of the universe I need to from the comfort of my living room via The Learning Channel.

Actually I think Clowd\'s thread is quite good (*pinches myself in the arm*). And I think it would be an overwhelming experience to see the Earth from space. All those petty problems we have, all the work, crime, everything.... it\'s do damn insignificant when you look at the \'whole picture\'. I honestly don\'t think I would be the same if I tried it.

I think that I\'m desensatized to the whole space thing. I see some show that has a cloaking device on their space craft, and I\'m like Ok...so? The sci-fi thing really removed the aw of it all. So after seeing scenes in sci-fi movies/shows of Earth...I don\'t think it\'d be much different. I wouldn\'t mind going, sure; it\'ll be like looking at the Statue of Liberty. I\'ll probably only aw at the size, but not by the fact of where I am.
-
If someone asked me if I wanted to go into space and see earth from there, I wouldn\'t hesitate one bit..
-
Hmm, but maybe the sci fi movies got it all wrong  I mean ; gravity on board a ship ? , thrust engines which you can actually hear make sound in spacevacume ? and the list goes on and on....all kinds of aspects of being in space which are NOT correct, not realistic.
We now know, from various extended space travels, that humans
can develope stress from being in a spacestation for a considerable time. After some time astronauts become stressed and get into arguments..... so being in space does indeed effect the human psyche. We also know that being in space too long isn\'t really good for your bones. The astronauts\' their legs became shorter !
My point is, the actual expierence could be a whole lot different than the sci fi tv-shows/movies make you think it is.
Seeing Earth from the surface of the moon could indeed
be overwhelming and cause some mental problems :nut: , and maybe not...... I\'m not for sure, never been on the moon.
But I know one thing for sure ; I\'d go crazy if had to live the rest
of my life on a spaceship or even another planet. Just let me
live here on Earth. :thepimp:

I\'d love travel by the space and can see the Earth. I believe that in 40 or 50 years (maybe sooner) we\'d travel to space as we do today on the highways.

I disagree with that. I think seeing that site wouldn\'t put those types of things into perspective for me in that way. It\'s all relative. If you\'re the one being hurt by crime, or stuck doing a tremendous amount of work, it is a big thing to you. Depending on your prior and even current experiences with such things, I don\'t think you would ever put them into perspective in that way. Send someone who\'s family was murdered or send a rape victim into space, and have them tell you crime is insignificant.
-
Well, perhaps not crime per say then. But it would let you realize how insignificant MOST problems are (and how insignificant you are to the world).
-
i see the earth from space all the time, cause i live on the moon.
its kinda nice, crime is low.
-
I dont wanna go to space because spacemen will ubduct me and take me to there planet X where I gotta phone home like ET in order to get home. There I would be the ALIEN!!!!!!!! lol lol lol!!

Really that wouldn\'t be too bad. It would be different to see our moon going around some odd miles away from us.
-
I guess that I still disagree with the whole insignificant thing. Infact, I think that in ways, viewing the world like that shows me how significant one can be. You see just how huge the world is, and how many people must be on it. The fact is, one man, if he does the right things, can touch everyone out there. Invent something important, make political changes, do something important, and you can effect everything you see in that picture. That doesn\'t make me feel insignificant. :)

I agree with what Sam said

for you clowd.....dont commit suscide.....or ill...ummm kil...no....ill beat u up....

Im not trying to commit suicide, lets get that straight.
It just awed me that somebody would commit suicide after seeing the Earth from the moon. What a sight it must be!
My point is that the human mind can\'t really render the size of the Universe. And when you see just a small part of it, it may drive you crazy. Just take the size of Jupiter for instance. At night, replace the moon with Jupiter. Jupiter would take up the entire sky!
If you traveled 5,878,000,000,000 miles a year it would take you like 1,000 years to travel across the Milky Way Galaxy. And there are BILLIONS of Galaxys!
-
So don\'t think of things in those terms. Why does it matter how vast the universe is, the fact is that will probably never make any real difference to you. The Universe could be infinite, but what will that ever matter? All that really is important to us is what we will come into contact with. Or something like that...
And do we know for sure that he killed himself for those reasons? Did he say that in a suicide note or something?

Humans are just an insignificant spec in this universe. That\'s all we are.
-
But why does that matter? That\'s what I don\'t understand.
-
I guess when you realize you\'re just a nothing, you figure you have no reason to live.
-
But how can you think you are nothing. Why does it matter how large the universe is? That doesn\'t change what is here on earth, and what is around you. It doesn\'t change the things you know and use here. So why does it matter?
If anything, I\'d think it would fill one with hope.
-
I dunno either, I was just taking a guess :p

Well, if he used sleeping pills it wouldn\'t be much of a sight. Perhaps it he used a chainsaw?
-
The guy thought something like "What am I doing everyday? Working? Why work?"
It was sort of like if you had a near death experience. Everything becomes so insignificant to you. Some bill collector about to take your house? You dont care anymore. Your favorite team lost the Super Bowl? You dont care anymore. You lost a $100 bill? Doesnt matter.
He didnt care about anything anymore. He may have thought "What are we doing here on Earth?"

I would like to see it from space. I definitly wouldn\'t go into a nervous breakdown. But only a few astronauts had nervous breakdowns. Not all of them do.
