Title: "Signs"
Post by: GmanJoe on August 04, 2002, 07:15:50 PM
"Signs "was a very good suspense movie. I higly recommend it. Unless you thought The Fast and the Furious was great movie, then don\'t watch this one. The suspense is a slow build up, similar to Alfred Hitchcock movies.

Go watch it.

Please don\'t expect peek-a-boobs(flash nudity) or lasers and high speed space crafts....

This movie is more than just about green long legged Mexicans invading the US. Did I say Mexicans? I meant aliens. ;) This movie is also about a man\'s belief in faith or coincidence.

I thought it was a great movie too.  The comic relief in it was pretty good, and well placed.  The suspenseful parts worked well too, and it was one of those movies where everything just seemed to come together.  Good stuff.

Sorry Vapor but you\'re correct.

[sp]- Seems the ailens have trouble getting through boarded up windows, doors, etc.
- Like the movie says, everything has a weakness.. This time around, it\'s water.

Movie was cool, lots of thrills.. Had a few laughs, loved the part when Gibson was running around the house cussing. Damn, that was funny. But like someone said up there, the aliens are CHEAP!!!! ahh they are so ugly and not scary. Oh well, great movie.[/sp]

If you didn\'t see the word SPOILER a dozen time above, then look again...

[sp]I can appreciate this film on a very low level, and I really enjoyed the scary and shocking parts, just as everyone else did.  I liked the night scenes of Gibson walking though the misty cornfield.  The first reveal of an alien on top of the barn seen through a window is really stunning.

Beyond that, I was somewhat disappointed.  I always expect Shyamalan\'s films to be more meaningful than they are.  I wanted Unbreakable to present new ideas about the universe and our role in it, but really it was just a superhero origin story.  Likewise, I wanted Signs to explore a new angle of the crop circles mysteries, but really it was just another "aliens invade the earth" story like any 50\'s movie or pulp novel.  The most meaningful part of it is the exploration of the family and how they cope with loss, but even that is paced much too slowly and too heavy handed.

It\'s like two unconnected movies welded together.  One is the story about losing a wife/mother in an automobile accident, and qustioning your belief in god.  The other story is a recycled 50\'s alien invasion movie, little better than "Independence Day."  They should have remained two separate movies, or Shyamalan should have made the alien story smarter and less stereotypical.  He could have depicted the aliens as vaguely threatening in a mysterious way, without making them seem so openly hostile.  That\'s what Philippe Mora does in "Communion."  The aliens are depicted as seemingly threatingly, but mostly because we can\'t understand what they want.  Communion is my benchmark for "smart but scary" aliens.[/sp]

Great movie, I thought it was boring at first and was about to leave but, the story picks up after the first 15 minutes.

The movie has Mel Gibson in it and is a story about crop circles.

Core, if you thought that was the most meaningful part of the movie I suggest you see it over and over again until you relize the true meaning of the movie.

Perhaps it would be faster if you just told me your opinion, instead of posting such vague statements.

Did they show they aliens, the damn better have because if they\'d pull a Contact on me I\'d go and kill this shamalama guy.

And if they did what did they look like, gimme a description in one of those spoiler tags because reading them makes me feel so secretive.

And I\'m not one of those idiots that\'s scared that it might spoil the "experience" for me.

no-0ne, they did a great job with the "look" of the aliens

they even described why they would probably look the way they did (which made perfext sense)

like i said, the film makes you more scared of what ISNT there and what you CANNOT see, like a true suspense film should

The aliens looked emmmm... Generic. Don\'t expect no Men In Black aliens here. Just some green guy with big eyes. Like mm said, it\'s all suspense, you only get to see the alien clearly once in the movie, and that\'s towards the end. All the rest are just those thrill thingys with the loud scary music going with it.

i guess they were trying to keep it to the views of aliens throughout many of the books and videos that depict them.

finally saw this movie tonite and im more scared now than i was during the movie and that 2 hours ago thats what so great about it
its like the blair witch project that movie scared the crap outta me but not while i was watching it afterwards when i think i might never go camping again
as far as the aliens looking cheap i think what they were trying to do was stick to the sterotypical look of an alien but still still have them be physically menacing
i really enjoyed it but i would like to see another director take the exact same concept but go in a different direction with it a more horror\\sci-fi\\action like independence day but more like a ww2 movie than a will smith pic
i felt the same way about unbreakable great movie i loved it but would like to see anotherwriter\\director\'s take on the whole modern day superhero concept
i like the ending [sp]beating his ass with a bat was funny and fitting but i would have showed more of whats going on in the rest of the world instead of keeping us in the dark[/sp]
