Title: Who\'s getting Fellowship of the Ring?
Post by: GmanJoe on August 06, 2002, 05:58:38 AM
Not I.

And I\'m a pretty big fan of Tolkien.

But I\'m waiting for the November version.

30 minutes of extra footage. More battles and more blood. Enough to be moved up to Rated R.

You\'ve been warned, kids. Tell you\'re momma to get the November version.

I just bought the other version yesterday (it was released a day early at my local EB)

But I\'ll get the November version as well :)

I\'d get it too but everyone I know is getting one this week. That means when the November version comes out, I\'ll have no one to give the regular version to.

I\'m still not sure which version I should buy, can anybody post the pros and cons of each version?

I haven\'t studied it a whole lot yet, but AFAIK the differences are:

The 2-disc version doesn\'t have a lot of special features (at least compared to the 4-disc Nov. version). It contains the version of the movie that played in theaters.

The 4-disc version has better sound (not 100% sure on that one, but think it was DTS-ES? Please correct me if I remember wrong) and better picture quality (not sure about this one either). It doesn\'t mean the 2-disc version is bad looking and -sounding, it just means the 4-disc version will be even better. Plus it has more special features. It\'s also 30 mins longer (which means that if you want the \'original\' version, you have to get the 2-disc version).

Isn\'t there also a 5-disc coming out? The 5th disc is a documentary I believe.

Again, this info might not be correct; it\'s just what I seem to remember.

The Novermber version has Dolby 5.1 and DTS something something plus commentary from the director and actors. There\'s a few more things. Go to http://www.theonering.net

Sorry to burst your bubble, but no. Peter Jackson himself said that the Extended Edition mostly contained character development and contained no R-rated violence. The MPAA rerated it anyway and gave it a PG-13. No extra blood, no extra guts. Sorry.

Anyway, I getting both. Why not? Best Buy has it for $16. If I was so hard up for cash that I couldn\'t afford to pay an extra $16, I probably wouldn\'t be getting the mega 5-disc Collector\'s Edition anyway.

yeah, i wish they had put Tom Bombadil in the movie, he was a funny character.  I already bought the movie this morning at work, and im currently watching it now :D.  I love this movie.  Oh, and Farmer Maggot is in the movie.  They just dont show him, only his scythe (whatever its called).  Its when frodo and sam run into pippen and merry in the field.

I\'m wondering if they\'re waiting to release the second version in Nov cuz they know that millions will sell now and then in Nov they can sell another few million at a higher price?  Well it may be devious but is still seems like smart business to me and it\'ll work too.

I\'ve already seen it a billion times, so I wasn\'t planning on getting it.  But today my mom bought it -- surprise, I had no idea she liked this movie too. :)  It was really weird because she\'s never bought a DVD in her life.

I was actually going to wait for the November release before I spent my money on it, but now that we have the movie, I don\'t think it\'s worth it.  Any cool story details not it the movie have been\\will be all over the internet anyways.

The November version has Samwise in a full frontal nudity. :p

Yeah...the Samwise here. :D

And no, I wouldn\'t hit it. That sign of mine is for women only.

I\'ll purchase the first one when it\'s released in Spain (28th August), and later, if I can, I\'ll take a look into the second version.

Got it today...it rocks.  Sounds fantastic on my DD 5.1 system, looks great on my component cables...

Just made the PS2 my main DVD player after my old one broke...before a couple of weeks ago, I\'d never watched a movie on the PS2, and I bought it at launch.

Very pleasantly surprised...haven\'t run into any problems whatsoever.

As to the topic, I will probably buy the November edition too...just couldn\'t wait to see the movie again.
