Title: My next purchase: a digital camera. HELP here
Post by: Seed_Of_Evil on August 07, 2002, 11:10:19 AM
Next year seems to be a little hot here. Besides a new TV and a PC, I want purchase a digital camera. First of all, I wanna say that I\'ve not idea about this stuff, so any suggestion and whatever thing you help me with, it will be nice.

In the beginning I was thinking to buy a digital video camcorder, but after thinking and thinking, I believe that what I need is a digital photograph camera, because I\'ve now a cool Sony 8MM (of course it\'s a bit old now but still works fine).

So, do you think is worth the money a digital photo camera? Or must I buy a movie camera? I suppose movie digital one are so much expensive than first one... Could anybody tell me 2 good models (one each one) and the approximate price?

Another thing I would pleased to know is... can a digital movie camera shoot pictures?

And with regard to memory... I know there are different media cards (starmedia, compact flash), but what I\'d want to know is whether you can buy more memory cards to keep back and use them all when you are in a trip or something.

To sum up, I\'d like you to answer those questions (because i know here there are freakies of this stuff) and if you can put a link with a couple of good models we\'re speaking about.

PD: any member here posted a couple of shoots of a bunch of AUDI cars and he told the pictures were made with a digital camera... since then I wish to know more about this and purchase a good one cause quality is extraordinary. Thanx a lot.

If I was going to buy a digital camera, I would select the Canon D60.  A truly awesome SLR digital that uses existing Canon EF lenses.  Featurewise it\'s stunning, but the body with battery/cable kit is around $2,199.00.  I think it would be worth it, but I\'m saving for a car right now.

There are so many cheaper models, I can\'t possibly keep track of them or make a recommendation.  I suggest you read read back issues of the magazine Popular Photography and read all their reviews of digital cameras over the last six months.  http://www.popphoto.com/index.asp  Or you could start reading their web forum, which is really good:  http://www.popphoto.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi  Not only will you get a great introduction to the features you should be looking for, but you might be able to decide on a specific model.
