cool - basically a followup on the other article posted in the main-forums. If the chip is to be entering production in 2004 and assuming that PS3 might ship a year or two later - we might even have a console with multiple cells just to give you a lot of power. Wow, this is exciting!!!

it\'s actually $1.2 billion to be correct. Sony, Toshiba and IBM are investing $400 million each.

i knew their was something wrong with the 400 mil figure  that ive seen in various articles, but i was never able to get my finger on it.

That\'s how much the development of the technology costs...I wonder how much it\'ll go for once the technology is easy to mass produce...probaby only...$300 mil...chump change...j/k

much less than that.. once it goes into mass production, it\'ll probably cost less than a few hundred bucks. :)

PS3 is going to be very powerful but its not coming out til 2006 its wwwwwwwwwaaaaaayyyyyy to far off but hey I"m still enjoying this generation.:)

How did you get out of your cage?

You should not be complaining about waiting for anything.  2006 is a reasonable release date.

I say 2005

Sony knows the value of staying a year ahead of the competition. If they wait till 2006 it would allow the competition some time to catch up possibly


If they are making the chip in 2004 then 2005 is a definite possibility

I can be enjoying this generation for al long time but I would easily ditch it for an upgrade to considerably more powerful hardware in a heart beat

I agree with Dman. Sony is usually one step ahead of their competition. That is how they are always ahead in the console wars. That and they have good game developers at their side.

I\'m enjoying this generation of games and could wait for a while for PS3 to come out.
