I was watching some TV show and they made some interesting points.
The Mayan calendar, which has accuately predicted many of the worlds events, sudden stops on December 21, 2012. Another man created some for of graph which in a way charts time. His graph also feel off the charts of the exact same date.
They came up with a theory which sounds good to me. Since time is linear, you go from Monday to Sunday every week, it would be impossible for a calendar to end or for a graph of a cycle to sudden dip of the charts. These people claimed that on December 21, 2012, one of two things could possibly happen.
1) The end of humanity and the earth for that matter.
or
2) Humans will discover how to compression time and learn the ability of time traveling. This would explain the reason for the graph to sudden stop or a calendar to stop. Time would no longer be linear.
-
So - let me get this straight. Because some calander doesn\'t go past a given date, it is either 1) end of the world or 2) one of the biggest discoveries ever?
I\'ll be damned.
;)
I don\'t see time traveling anytime in the near future..Or hell, even distant future.
-
Why not worry about it when the time comes?
-
yeah, and all humanity was supposed to revert back to midevil times one second past 11:59:59 12/31/99
-
that wouldve been cool though, i would take the name uther the lightbringer and have a big battle axe and wear a loin cloth and what not.
also medevil times dinner and tournament is kick ass.
-
the red knight sucks!
red knight going down! down, down, down!
-
Either one of those outcomes still have negative side effects.
-
My theory is that he either ran out of paper or his pen ran out of ink. SImple as that.
World better not end. I have a party to go to on the 22nd.
-
partS?
unless you have a funky keyboard, the Y key is NOWHERE near the S key
wierd
-
lol you guys are no fun
-
Not to be a party pooper, but what timezone are we talking about? December 12 in Australia? Europe? Asia? USA? Somewhere else entirely? ;)
-
this topic sucks...what kinda idiot made this.
Anyway, it is probably where the mayans made their civilization. I think it would be cool to compress time.
-
If we learn to compress time, this would probably mean that we would no longer need a physical body. I think that if we could travel through time we would age with it. So if someone were to go 100 years in the future, that person would probably be dead before he reached that time.
-
I think Time Travel is possible. I think that you can only go forward though. I think going backwards in time is impossible.
-
why would going back in time be any more impossible then going forward in time? the past has actually happened. the future has not yet been set. what do you base your oppinion on?
-
the fact that we are all currently travelling forward in time..?
and time compression is BAD! havent any of you played Final Fantasy 8!?!?!
-
Well if we could go back in time don\'t you think we would know by now?
I mean don\'t you think someone would have wanted to come back to the 80\'s?

you gotta be kidding me. Right?!?!?
-
No, what Vid means is, don\'t you think someone from the future would have already come back in time to where we are?
(although if they did, they certainly wouldnt try and tell anyone.. they\'d go to an asylum)
You can\'t possibly believe that if time travel is possible that our lifetime is infact the one lifetime creating the past, present and future. If time travel were possible and we were all on one big time rollercoaster, the future already exists.
Yunno, then theres the possibilities of interdimensional travels and all sorts of uantum physics stuff that\'ll never happen :p
Whatever can happen, will happen. So why has this not happened?
-
Or were you just making a joke that nobody would actually want to go back to the 80\'s..?
;)
-
No, you were right Bobbo. I guess I took it for granted that people would figure out what I was talking about. The 80s thing was just a joke.
Why am I explaining myself?
Point is and bobbo already said it. If you can travel to the past then we would already know it.
There have been some major events in history even in our own lifetimes that someone would return to see.
-
So were basing the date of the worlds destruction from a calander that ends on the date......how stupid is the USA?
My calender ends at the end of this year does that mean we all gonna die on that date? No. Its stupid. What if the guy dyed before he could do any more on the calander or lost it? What if it was stolen? Than what?
-
Well perhaps with the invention of Time Travel, came the outlaw of such a thing? In an effort to prevent their own time from being disrupted by the actions of one such time traveller (even though their own time would not be effected, rather an alternative reality created through the altered universe  )
Although I\'m sure the black market would be quite an attractive place for a time machine, but even if it were invented, would the government stifle the knowledge of the invention? It would be far too dangerous a thing to let out.
Intriguing, no? :)

Time flows forward, not backwards.
-
Well if it is possible to slow down time (travelling at speeds near light ~ under intense gravity) would it not be possible to slow time down to the point where it reverses?
But then! If you were to reverse time would you not get to the point where you started slowing time down therefore nullifying your effects, then as time progresses again you start to reverse it THEREFORE creating an endless cycle of NOTHINGNESS!?!?!?!?!?!
-
I agree bob. The government would allow very little knowledge to the public. And for that reason, I hope that a machine could never be developed. If at all possible, I hoping it will be something that we as a whole achieve. But, some say thats what happend to the Myans. They evolved. Im thinking If we ever reach the ability to travel through time, eveloution will have taught us WHY to use it BEFORE we ever learn HOW to use it.
-
maybe the guy carving the calendar died or something?
-
would the person that wrote the calender have gone on 3ever anyway he would obviously have to stop some time

Right now this is sounding like a hot bile of cow excriment; particularly the part about the "graph that charts time". Can u give us a bit more material to go on? Perhaps you could elaborate or maybe post a link.

Avatarr you are the third person in a row to bring back this dead thread!
-
Whell I hope it isn\'t quite dead yet. This little topic cought my eye. I\'d particularly like to know more about "graph that charts time" and the "guy" who drew it up. Meanwhile, there\'s a new sticky of some importance, mebbe u should check it out. :)
