Title: Pop-ups...
Post by: on August 13, 2002, 11:51:07 AM
Lately the pop-ups have been getting more annoying, is there any programs that can get rid of them? That is as soon as they open it automatically shuts them down or something?

I hate the facts of life. I also hate a bunch of other things.

I\'m not really talking about this site, i get like one pop up. But mostly about other sites, where pop ups bog down ur computer until it freezes.

Pfft mm, there are actually other sites than pr0n or warez, that use pop-ups. And yes, they are damn annoying. And yes, you can get a program to get rid of it. Try http://www.google.com.

I tried google. But I didnt know what to type. I think that- "a program that gets rid of pop-ups" might not work.

I was just asking....

Try Ad-aware, this will get rid of spyware and also you may find it also reduces some popups.

Go and download a pop-up killer like Meaya. There are many some will kill all of them others you can assign certain pop-ups to come though. If you are running off cable or dial-up these programs are very effective. I cant surf without it. The average cost is about 25 dollars. Also check out a nice internet clean program like OnTrack. Your bandwith will increase when you use a pop-up killer.

actually if you use Konqueror you can disable popups.  I\'ve also heard there\'s a way to do it with Mozilla but I\'ve yet to find out how.

Try CrazyBrowser.....it kills 95-100% of the pop-ups and you dont have thousands of windows open, it uses tabs Within the browser itself to open URL\'s (it uese IE tho)...it doesnt kilol the pop-ups that are actually Pinned top the page (like here) they cant be killed

Assuming you\'re using a somewhat recent version: Edit-> Preferences-> Advanced-> Scrpits&Plugins-> uncheck open unrequested windows.

To enable this feature in Netscape 7 go here http://ufaq.org/ns7/adblocker.html

Netscape has a 7.0?  Wow.

Anyway, this may or may not be restricted only to Earthlink users, but Earthlink is working on their own pop-up destroyer, and they have a free preview version available for download at their website http://www.earthlink.net .

I don\'t recall offhand that it asked me for my Earthlink ID and password, but that could also be a cookies thing.  Since I installed it, I have absolutely no pop ups coming through.  That\'s gotta be good, I guess, because I heard that some sites are using a new breed of pop up advertisements that can slip through certain free pop up blockers.  I haven\'t had this problem yet.  Good luck.
