You blame the bad captures, but its still one ugly game.
EDIT - And lets not forget, this is what gamers have been led to believe the game will look like on PS2
(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa333.g.akamai.net%2Ff%2F333%2F7712%2F10d%2F213.41.118.85%2Fimages%2Fphotos%2F00%2F00%2F19%2F36%2FME0000193606_2.jpg&hash=6b3570a6a31b70fc68180bb74a219da07200107c)
I am seriously pissed.
-
My god somoene should file those cars down with some sandpaper and turtle wax....please:eek:
-
They better pay us to own the game from the looks of it.
-
It honestly looks no better the TOCA 2 on PS1.
-
hm... The game will be released on 23rd of August in Germany... and I´ll buy it !!!
I tell you why: I have seen it running @ Giga Games (an "every day for 2h" Games TV Show) and it looks superb ! You might notice some popups, but if you play it those stuff doesn´t matter. The person who tested it is "not the biggest" PS2 fan and he rated this game "GOD" !!! ...any questions ?! ;)
-
THE EYE -
Err, take one look at it. My eyes hurt. I seriously hope your right.
-
LOOKS [glow=red]GREAT![/glow]
-
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Da jaggies are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!
-
If it looks that bad on PS2, I doubt the Xbox version will look as good as the screens we\'ve been seeing.
-
Crap. Utter crap, the last one is amazing, the rest are crap, just crap.

I bet crappy Colin McRae Rally 3 will look like this

Yeah probably, more Codemasters propaganda. :boom:
-
WTF? You guys are the biggest bitches. Every review of the game (Australian Magazines) have RAVED about the graphics. The screenshots in the magazines are great. All of a sudden some of the worst captures in the world come out and you guys are pissed off???
And Colin McRae 3 (will own) and has been seen running at E3, and apparently the 2 versions are indistinguishable.
-
Yeah, i\'m with bob on this one
these are some of the worst caps i\'ve seen in recent months
-
A quote from a review of the game
"The game\'s slick graphics engine is capable of tossing around 14 hyper detailed cars on screen at once. The tracks are easily recognisable, which is superb. With animated drivers inside and all panels capable of being crushed, or torn clean off, each car looks fantastic but this detail does come at a price. Throwing so many polygons onto the cars does mean that the background graphics arent quite up to scratch with the likes of Gran Turismo 3 ad World Rally Championship. It does of course, mea that you\'ll be too busy gawking at the sexy v8\'s to notice anyway"
Graphics - Great looking cars that you can break ~ 08
PSX game my ass...
-
Yes, sure there bad caps, but c\'mon. I really, really, really hope that I am completley wrong with this one, but the screens Codies keep giving out look too good to be true.
-
Of course they are too good to be true. Unless they are direct caps from a game they arent going to look that good no matter what console it comes on. The game still looks great. Stop being a weiner.
-
Hehe, ok Bob, you\'ve convinced me. I am gonna make judgement when I play. But those EB vids do look mighty fine.
-
It\'s cool to know that i wasnt off the mark with my last post. Yep, those captures are poor, but you can still see
the difference in background detail and textures. i knew i was putting my neck out but i think it was worth it.
just heard that the latest build of CMR3 has really bad slowdown.. Why can\'t these types of game be made by
decent devs. i mean, Codemasters have got a vision but they just cant deliver on a technical scale.
Man, go get some new coders and then hopefully half your games would run well.
here\'s those better grabs i posted again to show how the finished version looks.

These are the best indication of the final version..
Thanks for the grabs Racer, it would have still been cool if i was wrong. i wouldn\'t have minded
as we would have all been playing a better version.
StAnZo.
-
I am still hopeing that we are BOTH wrong.
And for the first time, I am hopeing that Bob is right.
-
Craptacular captures..
I talked to my friend who has the demo.. He says the graphics are really nice.
Those screens use a different (inferior) capturing method.
Im going to wait and play the demo for myself. :p
-
Those screens Stanzo posted are quite accurate as to what the game will looks like (possibly a little better tho)
-
I want this game.
-
If the physics model and game engine are great, I\'ll buy this game... even with the jaggy graphics. I would like to find something more realistic than GT3.
-
It can\'t be that bad, all reviews I\'ve seen have been very positive. I know I will be buying it.
-
Personally, i\'m still going to pick it up and as i said before in another thread,
"if they sorted out the slowdown then i cant ask for much more"
I dont have a problem at all with the PS2 version, it\'s just the shots that Codemasters have been showing
and sending to websites everywhere were not infact PS2 screenshots. they were definatly doctored images.
Esp when you consider the ps2 replay consoles in the lower left corner of the screen.
as i said.. i\'m still going to pick this up. as long as i get the same enjoyment out of it as i did Toca 1&2
then i\'ll be a appy man. but Codemasters seriously need to be told about these images.
i mean, isn\'t it against the law.. you know... false advertising or something.

I never said it couldn\'t look worse. But the Xbox isn\'t reall "5 times more powerful".
-
Lay off the exclamation points. Geez.
-
If you ask me, those screens are made by some kind of xbox fanboy, just look at pic 2 aND 6, the pics are sooo blurred, it\'s impossible
-
i\'m with politepet on this one, I think that the pics that have been posted were doctored in some way, just look at this (http://www.geocities.com/tyrant_246/enhanced.html)
btw this was done in 2 mins using psp.
i really hope what i\'m just typed is right, coz codemasters seem to have hyped this game way too much, and if this game does come out looking like crap their will be alot of angry gamers.
edit~ i would like to say again "I HATE GEOCITIES"
just copy and paste the following url in a new window http://www.geocities.com/tyrant_246/en.bmp , btw 56k\'rs bewarned the file is 900kb\'s.
-
only black squares with red x\'s in corner I\'m afraid Tyrant!
-
the blurred pictures.. apparently, Codemasters have used some kind of motion-blurring. It might look crap in screens (very blured) but perhaps much more realistic when in motion.
-
The field bluring DOES look very impressive in motion imho. it really does make a difference in the feel of speed
it looks nowhere near as bad as those inital pictures posted by racer in this thread.
Those screens are captured from a single frame.. remeber how i said in the other thread about the update?
Codemasters are still using interleaved screen updates. the odd lines get drawn on the first frame then the even
lines get drawn on the second frame. these screens have just captured the odd or even lines.
Do you guys remeber some of the first screenshots of ridge racer? they looked identical to those shots posted here.
the resolution is twice as high as those pictures posted by racer. look at the two i posted. after playing the demo i can
say tht those 2 are much nearer the PS2 version.
The new way of displaying graphics on the PS2 is to draw the whole image from top to bottom in 1 single pass
(both the odd & even lines) this stops the flickering that is so common in interleaved displays.
It aslo enables higher quality captures.

Do you think this would be in the final version?
-
StAnZo is correct ! Those frames just show ONE Picture !!
I´ve seen the game in motion... and it looks way better and it´s very fast ! The only thing I saw, are some popups, but they won´t hurt if you play the game...

i doubt it Racer, it would probably take too long to impliment it. shame, but it still looks ok to me.
-
Why wouldn\'t have they done it from the start? It just sounds so easy, I don\'t know why dev\'s don\'t just use this method.
-
Well, a lot of the newer games like The Mark Of Kri by Sony use this method. i have seen it running in the
loacal importers and it looks as clean as a whistle. no flickering edges or alaising. it looked quite stunning.
if anyone here has ever used an amiga the\'ll probably remember the intrlaced display modes in workbench.
One you were in an interlaced resolution the flickering was so bad that it could cause epeleptic fits (sp?)
it\'s simlar to what the PS2 is doing in toca. all beit at a faster rate to minimize screen flicker.
It\'s more than liley that sony have not long released the libraries to create games with sigle pass rendering and you can
tell quite easily when games do. look at ridge racer 5\'s flickery edges and text, then compare it to
The Mark Of Kri (when it comes out) full screen single pass rendering.
-
So, does that mean you no longer need to anti alias games? This would save alot of processing power right?
-
no, it just looks a lot cleaner than a game with an interlaced display.
FSAA can be added to make the display look even better.
-
They had better bloody use this in GT4.
-
Lol, I can\'t believe you seriously thought for a moment that the game would look like those screens. Even if it IS/WAS bad looking in reality, the resolution would be way higher.
-
I should have this game tomorrow (Wed) all being well, so I will find out for sure what it is like.
-
Let us know kurt.. we need info on the final version.

It sounds like it would have to take some extra power to display the full 640 lines of pixels.
-
Right, i picked up Toca today and it has improved from the demo version very slightly..
It doesn\'t slow down as much but it is still there, esp in the wet rain races - bah!
But overall it looks like a really good package. i have yet to play it properly as i have other distractions at the moment
like kids and the missus\'s programes but i\'ll spend more time with it tonight. my initial impressions are quite good.
P.S. the graphics are the same as those shots i posted before but even still, Codemasters have gone
and put dev screenshots on the back of the box. ** Wa^£(r$ ** they are very misleading.
They have definatley traded in slowdown for some more pop-up but it doesn\'t distract from the game.
also it\'s pre-set difficulty (70% i think) out of 110% is rather cool. i doubt i could win a race on 110% so there\'s
room for those who find the challenge too easy. overall i\'m impressed but their image may suffer
from the misleading media that has been circulating the net and various other sources.
StAnZo.

I haven\'t got it yet, the stock never arrived. It will be tomorrow now for sure before I get it.
Interesting comments on the full version btw Stanzo.
