Preach on Luckee!!

Eminem is at the top of the rap game, and to say that rap sucks is as ignorant as what most your parents have said about your choices in music.
Title: The Eminem Show
Post by: M4 on August 25, 2002, 01:25:11 AM
My dad likes some of the music I like. Hell; I like some of the music my dad likes.

Some music is technically better than other music. I\'d like to see Eminem produce an album as philosophically intriguing as Pink Floyd\'s The Final Cut, or play a bass guitar as well as Victor Wooten. It just won\'t happen.

Clearly he\'s liked for his style in lyrics and beat, but that doesn\'t earn my respect.

But I\'m probably coming across as some stupid elitest bastard, which isn\'t something I want to or intend to come across as. I\'ll just ignore your musical tastes and leave you alone and not be a jackass. Unless you\'re blasting the music so loudly in your car that I can hear it from a few states or nations away, in which case I\'ll catapult a brick through your windshield, or at least stab at thee from my parents\' home in Illinois.

I like Eminems songs.

Mainly cause I can relate to him. He sends a powerful message in many of his lyrics. Many people will say "oh he just raps about his mom doing drugs and his father never being there" Well my mother has never done drugs, but I can really understand his hate and resentment towards his father.

A perfomer\'s personal life should not become part of his work.  He\'s got problems w/his dad or mom or ex that\'s fine but talking about killing them and how much you hate them in a song is out of line and one day he\'ll probably regret doing it.

Pop rap, to me, means rap that sucks. Most do these days, but some are just okay.

I can\'t stand him complaining about his stupid life. It\'s not because he\'s white, it\'s because he just won\'t shut up about his god damn mom.

That\'s just a stereotype.
Have you listened to some of Tupac\'s songs? The songs Letter to My Unborn Child, Dear Momma, and Changes are, IMO, good songs. However, most new "rappers" are just ruining everything.

Then there would be very little write about. All the songs about love? Gone. Personal hate? Gone. Most of the stuff that\'s out is how the performer feels (unless the performers in NSync or something).

1.) Nelly
2.) Ludacris
3.) P Diddy

All Rap About The Same Thing......CRAP!!.!!

As For............... Like I Said In My Previous Post...... He Raps About Himself!.! He Is Gifted, He Can Rap About Anything....... But What He Does Is.... About Himself. Cause Thats What Music Is All About .

Reflection Of OneSelf. ....... The Only Difference Between Him And You .... Is That U Talk To Ure Friends About STUFF In Ure Room And Thats It. HE TALKS On The Microphone And Spits It Out To The World. U Both Are Talking The Same Things.....But He Is Bold Enough To Say It Out Loud.

As For Him Talking About His Mother........ Thats Him Telling The People How His Life Went Throw. He Was Made To Believe That He Was Sick All His Life.........But He Wasn\'t, Until He Grew Up, And Doesn\'t That Make U Feel Sick!.!

Neways...... U Can Despise Him Or Whatever. I Know Hes Excellent......... A Great MC And An Amazing Musician.

Nelly\'s new song is "Dillema." Last time I checked, that was a love song.
Ludacris\'s new song is "Move." It\'s a nonsense song that tells you to get out of the way.
P. Diddy\'s new song is "I need a girl" (Part 2) and he\'s in the Fabolous song "Trade it All" (Part 2). Both are love songs.

All don\'t seem to be talking about these: Bitches, Sluts, Blonde, Sex And Money.

LoL

This is ridiculous. Eminem saying he wants to kill his mother is NO different than Master P or C Murder rapping about all the people they want to kill in their songs.

Gangsta rap has always talked about killing the crackheads on the corner or that biznitch that rappers call a ho every other line in their lyrics. Rappers talk about killing people all the time. It\'s just the way it is. Hell even some Rock music refrences the killing of people. It\'s all been done before and it will all be done again.

If you like rap, good listen to it enjoy it and have fun with it. If you don\'t like rap, it\'s simple don\'t listen to it. You can\'t call out Eminem for rapping about killing his mother and Kim, unless you call out every other rap artist before him that has done it.

Pac did it, Biggy did it, Snoop does it, Cash money does it, and about a hundred more rap artist have done it.

Rappers have ALWAYS rapped about the same things they do know. Its just that they make a lot more money than they did before so now its alienating to a lot of us who don\'t have bentleys where as before anyone could go get a nice pair of adidas and a kangol hat.

Choice Is Choice Man...... I Think His Best Album To Date Is "The Eminem Show" Every Single Song..... Except "Drips" Is Freaking Amazing In It.

Slim Shady Was All BubbleGum Rap.... Marshal Mathers Had A Darker Side To Eminem It Was A Raw Album. And....... Now "The Eminem Show".... Shows Em\'s AlterEgo...Completely. "The Eminem Show" Is IMO The Best MNM\'s Album.

1. I have never seen anyone writing like that... maybe because it looks stupid and is irritating to read.
2. I Dont See The Problem To Write Like That At All ! ! !
3. And if u want songs that isnt always about drug, sex, mother or cars... listen to metal... most of the bands write about different things.

I like E because he is funny.  He has witty things to say if you really listen in to what he is saying.
"I strap myself into bed, with a bullet proof vest on, and shoot myself in the head".
He has that dry sense of humor I like.  He also is a total asshole.  That is good too.  Although he kinda plugs MTV....it\'s alright.

1) No one is complaining that Eminem is white. You seem to have a huge complex with white rappers - not us. I say this, because no matter why someone states they don\'t like his music or style of music, you insist that they don\'t like it because he is white. It simply isn\'t so. I don\'t personally like rap or Eminem, but I don\'t care what race he is. If his style of music does not appeal to me, then it just doesn\'t. Simple, isn\'t it?

2) This Is Annoying. This Is Not Stylish. It Is About As Stylish As Typing In Ebonics. There Is No Sense In It.

3) Everyone in this thread complaining that music genre A sucks and music genre B rules - well, guess what... Its all personal preference and opinion. You may not like rap, but like country. It does not mean country is more meaningful and better style of music. It just means you prefer it. Its like comparing apple and oranges, both are very different and appeal to different people. Get a grip , guys.

3) This whole \'pop is white\' stuff is crap. Where do you get off saying that because someone says "pop" they are reffering to "white"? That is to say there has not been black pop stars, when infact some of the biggest pop stars in history have been.... black . Need examples? Whitney Huston,  Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Boyz 2 Men,   Babyface and the list goes on. So, get over it. Just because you have a complex about a certain race, does not mean anything. Base your posts on fact - not opinions.

4) I could care less if Eminem raps about killing his mother. I could also care less if he is rapping about his life experiences, the way I look at it is like this.. Every generation has had a musical influence that was mostly about shock and constrovery. Jim Morrison, Alice Coopers,  Ozzy, Kiss, Marilyn Manson are some good examples, well now we have Eminem. A rock (well, rap) star who gets more popular due to the fact he causes constrovery and attracts the media. I\'m not saying he can\'t rap and he isn\'t talented. I\'m saying that a big part of his popularity is due to the fact he gets the media up and goin\' and a lot of younger kids think it is a big bad sin to listen to him - therefor they must.  Once Eminem\'s craze dies down (and it already is) someone else will replace him and the cycle will start back. We\'ll be on some message board debating this whole damn thing again.

;)

Edit [/:b] To further drive this point home, I\'ll bring up Jim Morrison yet again. Quite a few of you are talkin\' about how rap only talks about killing people and how Eminem only talks about killing his mother...Well, I suggest you go pick up the first Doors album titled \'The Doors\' and listen to the song called \'The End\'. I\'ll do a quick quote for you.

Quote
The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...f**k you

Here you go. A non-rap song, in late sixities , early seventies by a band that most critics and media consider one of the most important bands in rock history.

My point? Don\'t sterotype rap for violent themes when rock has had them for the longest time.

You can say there are R&B , but the argument here seems to be that anything popular must be "pop" or maybe I misunderstood - if so , I apologize.

My main point still remains though. No one was being racist and the fact that I see people complaining about rap due to violent themes, may as well complain about a lot of other music. Hell, if you dig enough you\'ll find certain country songs with themes of violence. If you don\'t like rap, that\'s fine, but there has to be better reasons to complain about rap, other than the violent themes of certain songs .

I disagree with this. I have been to countless concerts(rap, rock, pop, R&B, etc.). The only genres that consistently have numerous "violent" injuries are rock concerts. I\'ve seen stuff at rock concerts that if started at a rap concert would have it shut down INSTANTLY.

BTW, Why do you say that rap music begets violence in the first place?

So basically what you are saying is that Rock music is not a detriment to society? Tell me how Rock makes this world a better place? To sit there and bad mouth rap like it is the only form of music that produces controversial and negative lyrics is BULLSHIT. Especially when compared to Rock. Popular rock right now is nothing but I hate this, I hate that, I hate myself, teen angst bullshit.

I have to go with Gohan on this. How do you explain things like Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails or many other rock / industrial bands? They are all angst, violence based music. To say rap is the only music that influences kids to do violent acts is simply short-sighted. Why can\'t a kid who likes rock music such as Manson want to be violent? Seems to be the exact same thing to me.

And (LIC) Yes All Those Bands Are R&B. As For P Diddy, Is HipHop And So Is WillSmith (Just Cause He Doesn\'t Curse In His Songs, Doesn\'t Make HIM A POP Musician).

As For Michael Jackson, Ok He Was Known For KING OF "POP". But The Most Awards He Picked Was For Best "R&B" Artist.

BTW MM, WTF is your point about white kids wearing FUBU?  I guess you think it is black people clothing and so only black people can wear it?  Well, yes, black people *did* start wearing that stuff before, so I guess you can say it is black clothing, but hey, white people wear the first to make lots of money, so if a black person makes a lot of money he is having an idenity crisis?  You gotta think about what you say.  There are all sorts of groups in the country, it\'s no longer black, white, asain, or native american man.  It\'s now split into groups of religion, taste in music, and class.  So maybe FUBU belongs to those who like Hip Hop or live in the hood.  That\'s them, it doesn\'t matter white or black.  Maybe there are black kids who wear preppy shit.  That\'s them.  People don\'t do shit to be another color....The follow what they like, and what they are.  You are probably a heavy rocker, and that is fine, I care less.  But when you start making comments that are not thought out, you have to sit and listen to the bullshit that spews from everyone.

lucky, must you be so literal all the time?  sigh....

boz, i take great offense to yer question of my racial integrity

im a realist, nothing more

we\'ve already discussed how african americans cause a majority of violent crimes in america.  that is a factual statistic.

Now shut your mouth and erase your thread.

what happened?  did ya find 2 more cents in yer pocket?

yeah, i like how rap concert promoters PURPOSELY hire extra security.  i like how certain rappers were banned from venues on cities around the country.  rappers promote violence cause they know its sells.  and it sells VERY well.  especially among the middle class white suburban teenager whos only happy to throw down 16$ for a remix of a remix of a dub of a sample with a rhyme layered over it that was actually recorded 6 months earlier.

how can my "views" be wrong?

The funny thing is..they allow violence at rock concerts.

The pit..yup..violence..occurs at almost every concert. Somehow that is looked upon as being ok.

the pit?  jebus man, you have no idea what you speak of

the pit is about respect and about tolerance and about releasing agression in a controlled influence, NOT bring yo gats out and blazing foo\'s!

please dont think of shit bands like korn and limp biscuit when you mention "pit"

You generalize WAY to much mm, "bring yo gats out and blazing foo\'s!".

And you say shit bands like Korn and Limp don\'t count.  Well just maybe for a second did you think that their are rap bands that people consider trash too.

Regardless of what "the pit" is all about people get hurt all the time. I don\'t know what\'s so tolerant about elbowing someone else in the head. Maybe if rappers were blazing foo\'s respectfully and just to release tention it would be okay?

Seriously, mm. Slap yourself. How can you not see the double standard that you are arguing?

Bottom Line: Rock and Rap, RULE. Must some people just listen to one form of music?

They both bring different cards to the table, but its all about being a fan of music in general.

Eminem, Korn, Tupac, Linkin Park, Nelly, System of a Down, DMX, Tool = \\m/

I was just using them as examples... Alternating rock and rap... Showing you how listing them in the same line doesn\'t look too bad.

But just for the record the top 5 artists I\'m listening to now, in no particular order:

1. Hoobastank
2. Eminem
3. Disturbed
4. Unwritten Law
5. Jay-Z

Title: The Eminem Show
Post by: mm on August 29, 2002, 08:13:20 PM
you watched "thug angel" boz?

my fav bands?

if i even listen to music (mostly when i do yardwork),  Mike Doughty gets heavy rotation along with aphex twin and ignition.  oh, and anything off of the Sub-Pop and Dischord labels in the early to mid 90\'s.

i read on the bus into town and back everyday, and when im in my jeep, i have audio books form the library.

i have an unquenched thirst for knowledge so i always have a book with me in some form or another

i dont waste my time or hearing on "modern" music, let alone rap.  the only rap artist i liked in the last few 5 years was tribe called quest and apparantly i hear they disbanded.  and the last "alternative" band that was any good was Radiohead but thom york wasted no time in becoming a martyr

kurt cobain was the only one of the musicians of today to have any sense of what he had become and it destroyed him, figuratively and literally.  he had personally glorified, whored, and ruined the alternative scene.

im sorry bro, but Korn is the epitome of MTV sellout

they might as well hook up with p-diddy and remix "its all about the benjamins, what?"

Well, I would mindlessly tear into the bands you listen to, but damn you had to mention the lead singer of my all-time fav band.

What exactly did he become that led to him committing suicide? I honestly don\'t know since I was 5 when Nevermind took the world by storm. I read every biography of him and went to every Nirvana site but never got a solid answer.

And exactly how did he ruin the alternative scene? Please tell me it wasn\'t his music(which as you probably know is regarded as some of the best ever). Just looking for solid answer here, whether they\'re the ones I want to hear or not.

Well, I don\'t get MTV, so you might want to explain how they\'re a sellout.
Title: The Eminem Show
Post by: mm on August 29, 2002, 08:36:22 PM
actually, i dont feel like explaining either more than i already did, but anyhoo....

kurt was ashamed at what he had become, the posterchild of the "alternative scene" that had now become pop-culture.  he couldnt stand the thought of doing one more show in front of 10,000 screaming teen-agers who happened to have seen "smells like teen spirit" on MTV and begged thier parents to buy them tickets.  wanna know when he lost the edge?  when MTV barred from from playing "rape me" for the VMA\'s.  thats when he knew he was nothng more than a fukn puppet and he become the corporate rock star he always loathed.

and about korn?  the only thing korn would kill themselves for, is money

you guys can think what you want, and say im full of shit all day long.  I remember what music used to be, and what it meant to us.  nothing like the bubblegum crap you see on MTV now.  its almost revolting.

i remember millions of metallica fans raging when metallica released its 1st video decades after they started.  it was all downhill from there.

not that i can blame them for selling out, money makes the world go round, eh?
