If I start thinking about this subject, my imagination zaps me too far into the future when games will be so realistic there will be practically no distinction between the game and reality. I can’t bring myself down to a more currently reachable concept. In the meantime, there must be
Some major new improvement right around the corner that will give us a reason to ooh and aah. Will it be more interactive environments? Photo-realistic graphics? Larger worlds? Longer games? What do you think it will be first?

Dual Shock Enimas. Those are the future.. mark my words.

Fully interactive porn games (virtual reality) with sensation sensors that give you orgasm!

Anything but Sony\'s sniffing system is good.

At least it\'s cheap and it could cut up anyone who touches it.

Virtual Reality, or whatever it\'s called in english, will change our lives. Would you like to visit all cities in the world? You\'ll be able to do with it. GREAT.

Sounds expensive. It won\'t be as fulfilling as the real thing, though.

i think that on the fly, terrain development would be the next BIG step. That way you could travel forever and never see the same thing twice. would be great for an RPG or a Racer.

Sure, it will be expensive in the beginning... and it will be fulfilling, or Matrix\'s inhabitants weren\'t happy living their virtual lifes?

Oh, you mean like The Matrix. That\'s a whole different story.

Notice that Matrix was an enhanced Virtual Reality, but VR.

being able to control the game with your mind....i read someplace that some dude is developing a machine that can read brainwaves and control the game through them...
-
Reading brain waves have been around for some time...scientist can now figure out simple letters from the mind already..
Anyway, the next biggest technological jump will be SONY finally implementing easy to access FSAA into the PS3 hardware...LOL.

Well heres what I like to see. Interactive holograms. I know I know, this kind of technology will most likely not come to be in our lifetime but just think of the possibilities. Yeah I wish I could beam aboard the enterprise and just live on their holodecks.

That might not be as far off as you think. However, I doubt that will be on the PS3! Speaking of the PS3, does anyone have any information you could share about what the PS3 will be like?

Hover cars :p
-
human can fly instead of walking. If not, like somebody say, hover cars... If human can fly and walk on land, then that settle. (it will be a much more enjoyable world.)

Gundams
Mark my word, they\'re closer than you think.
*que scary music*

Has anyone heard of HAVEN? Apparently, this game will be utilizing a new technology. The website describes it better than I could:
Haven: Call of the King is the story of a young hero\'s epic journey to free his enslaved people from the clutches of the evil Lord Vetch. Using Traveller\'s Tales\' advanced T-Total gaming engine, which allows a multitude of genres to be seamlessly integrated into one game, Haven: Call of the King features many gameplay styles - platforming, turret-based shooting, boat and land vehicle racing, arena combat and space exploration. Players will travel through lava-filled subterranean mines, then race across oceans in jet-powered speedboats to pilot spaceships for interplanetary dogfights - all without a break in gameplay. Available Winter 2002, Haven: Call of the King is poised to transcend the boundaries of interactive technology.

Didn\'t you post this before? Sounds like your advertising that game or something.
-
I don\'t know - did I? It probably does sound like I\'m advertising if I did post something similar before. Rest assured, I\'m just doing what everybody else does - talking too much of something I\'m enthusiastic about! I guess I just can\'t believe that so many people haven\'t heard of this game. A few have, but most haven\'t. This surprises me when I consider the fact that almost any avid gamer is always looking for the newest technology for games and it sounds to me like HAVEN has gameplay that has never been done before. Do me a favor: go to http://www.haven.midway.com/, read the description and tell me if this sounds like new technology to you. If not, I\'ll shut up about it.

Remember when Virtua Fighter first came out. I remember everyone talking about how it looked like real people fighting. It was a big thig howrealistic the game looked. Now that I look at the game I usually can\'t believe how bad it looks compared to today\'s fighters. Even fighters from 4-5 years ago look like garbage compared to today\'s offerings. Just knowing that 5-10 years from now, I am going to look at todays graphics and wonder why I liked them so much keeps me gaming.
-
Yeah, it\'s exciting and frustrating at the same time. On the one hand, it\'s exciting to get the latest consoles with all of the newest, most dazzling games. On the other hand, it\'s frustrating to have to sell your console and all of your games at a fraction of the price you bought them for just so you can scrape together enough money for a down payment on the NEWER console only a few years later.

Excitebike 64 had a special mode with such a feature. Integrating that into the actual gameplay of main modes would be sweet, depending on the game.
The next big technological gameplay leap? I would love to see games that you could be mixed and matched like card decks. I mean, let\'s say, sometime in the future game data is locked in cards that can be slid into a number of openings on whatever monitors we\'d be using at that time. You could have a card module with action gameplay, one with rpg gameplay, shooter gameplay, platformer gameplay... everything imagineable. You\'d have separate cards with story, character, magic, and equipment data for rpgs, car and physics models for racing games, etc. So, you\'d have gameplay genre cards, specific data cards, and each card would be hardcoded to be compatible with specific other cards.
You\'d be able to customize your gameplay experience by mixing and matching the cards. Say you load in a traditional RPG card, you\'d then add whichever character, magic, story, and equipment cards as you\'d like for a customized experience. Obviously, there would be different and more specific kinds of rpg cards, I\'m just being general for now. Not satisfied with the traditional rpg battle engine. Throw in an action card and boom, you\'ve got a real time RPG engine.
Take a shooter card, add a First Person or Third Person card, a 2D or platformer card, different story, weapons, or enemy cards, single player or multiplayer cards, etc. The idea could be expanded upon in many, many ways.
Hahahaah. It\'s pure sci-fi of course, but if someone could create and balance this, it would be DAMN cool.
