This item of news has appeared in 2 spanish webs and I read something regarding this news in another webpage. I\'l try to translate it:
S. Mikami, one\'s of the most successful series in the last times responsible, Resident Evil, carried out some hard critics against two of the most important Japanese companies, Sony and Square. Regarding the giant of the electronics, he affirmed that their PS2 is sold so well because people has to buy one of reserve, due to the bad quality of the components. And furthermore, he stated that other devices, as the current PCs, the mobile Docomo and walkmans, are also manufactured with materials of terrible quality so that the users are forced to buy one new every so often.
For example, he mentioned that he has had to buy two PSOne (the old pattern) because the lens wore away quickly (something that, on the other hand, many users of PlayStation will be able to corroborate that have had to appeal to tricks like to put the console upside back if they wanted that it continue reading the disks).
Regarding Square, he commented that Kingdom Hearts doesn\'t deserve the sales that it has had (almost 800.000 units) and that people have only bought it because it is in fashion. Of course, at the end of the interview he apologized to Square and admitted to be a little mad since Kingdom Hearts has sold much more than Resident Evil in GameCube (titles launched almost simultaneously), something unjust in their opinion, because, although it has recognized that the game of Square is not bad, his RE is better.
Mr. Mikami, next time try to do a complete new game and don\'t improve graphics from an old one, and this way, perhaps, your sales will be a little better.
-
lol, hes mad cause a disney game sold more then RE
thats what they get for going exclusive
tsk tsk
-
This is sad, they\'re acting like little kids. Calling a system and a game inferior because it gets more sales than its "superior" product.
-
Why is he complaing no one told them to leave PS2 anywayz. So live with it.
-
Talk about sour grapes!
-
Has there been any other comfirmation of this? Some serious backbiting like that should have been all over internet by now. Maybe the sites are jus making up news to draw in readers.. like um *cough* Daily Radar and many other sites... used to do.
I really don\'t think Capcom wants to jeopardize their position with Sony by talking alot of smack about them. The reps wouldda been all over his ass for making comments like that. Not to say that he might not be thinking it.. but I doubt he would actually be able to SAY it.

SonyFan do you mean I lie?

I think he\'s saying that your source might have made it up to attract more visitors.

I know, may be this news is posted today later in some popular videogame page and everyone will notice that it was true. My link is in spanish, sorry.-

There, in the Arcade/Multi section.
- Capcom\'s Biohazard producer Mikami has made some strong criticisms toward Sony, Square and general customers in a recent radio program interview in Japan.
1. He mentioned that Sony makes their consoles easy to break to increase their installed base. He said the PS2 is selling so well because many people are buying a second one for replacement.
2. He said he has bought two sets of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 in the past, because the CD lens wore out quickly. When he played Super Robot Taisen on PS, it took one minute to load up each battle, he was so pissed off that he had to get a new PlayStation to play the game.
3. Other than PlayStation, he mentioned the current PC systems, walkman and Docomo cellphones are also easy to break, he said manufacturers purposely make the systems easier to break, so that customers would have to purchase a new one every one or two years. He said that how come no customers have complained about it? It\'s almost like cheating and committing a crime.... (the radio DJ interrupted the conversation and tried to switch to another topic.)
4. When asked "Do you think the customers are foolish?", he replied "Yes". He expressed that Square\'s Kingdom Hearts is selling so well because of "Aura Purchase", i.e. people buy this game because his/her friends are playing the same game, or really liked the game; despite whether he/she likes the game or not. He said that Kingdom Hearts does not deserve the 780,000+ unit sales, it doesn\'t worth the 6800 yen price tag.
5. At last he said "Square please forgive me", because he was so upset that Kingdom Hearts has sold a whole lot more than Biohazard on GameCube (both games released at around the same time), he thinks Biohazard is a much better quality game, although Kingdom Hearts is not a bad game either.
He had to buy two PS and PS2s? I\'ve had both from the day they were launched and never had a single problem. I really wonder how well people treat their systems when they have to go and buy another within a year...
-
Thanx nataku for posting it. He would open the machine to see the wires or whatever. I\'ve also the system since the launch day and not any problem.
-
I don\'t think the news is true...CAPCOM wouldn\'t want to incur the wrath of SONY.
But it does have a tone of truth..about people buying reserve and cheap components...coz this is my 2nd PS2 already!!! Damn...at any rate, I\'ll stay away from anything SONY unless I don\'t have a choice...like the PS2.
hhmm...maybe I should put my new PS2 in the freezer to put it in suspended animation while not in use to prolonged it\'s life?? LOL.

pfft, I wouldn\'t doubt if this is true. Hell, here\'s a picture of Mikami talking. Yeah, it doesn\'t prove much, could have been taken from anywhere, but I trust Magic Box with their news.

^^^Why did you post a picture of Mikami?
-
So because your PS1/2 has never had any problems, there\'s no defect?
Ask Altered how many PS1\'s he bought...
-
My PS1( first model) has the typical overheating problem (choppy FMVs,games not loading).I think all early models started to have it after some time. But it still works in a 45° position.
-
it seems i\'m one of the lucky ones, i\'ve had my psx for 6 years and let me tell u it has been thru alot.the only problem i\'ever faced was when i droped my controller and it shorted out the controller ports (it was easily fixed).

I posted that picture of Mikami because it\'s the one Magic Box has above their news article about what he said.
If you want to see the whole magic box news story, go to my link a few posts up.

It\'s good to know the man you\'re talking about ;)

Yes, yes, thats why I posted it... :sconf:

LOL - this is absolutely redicolous (sp?)...
for what please do you have warranty? If your PS2 or what ever Sony electronic equipment brakes down and you still have the warranty, you can have it fixed with no costs. Comparing this with a systems sales is just pathetic.
Oh and Adan, head on. A remade Resident Evil better than a completely new game? yeah, that says it all.
shakes head in disgust

I still have the launch PS1 and it works like a charm. However I always read on this forum about how many people have faulty PS2\'s. My friend is already on his 3rd! I guess I\'m lucky. My PS2 works great. I think all the consoles are made cheaply ever since they went to CD\'s. My 16 bit consoles(Genesis, SNES) hell even my ancient Atari 2600 works perfectly!
-
:o My, my... this is quite unexpected. I always thought
Japanese ppl never say such things so directly. Anyway,
imo it\'s a low blow by Mikami to attack Sony\'s hardware,
including stuff like walkmans just becuz he is dissapointed
in the number of sold RE copies on NGC ! Totally unfair
to link his sales number to the quality of Sony\'s PS2 and
consumer behavior in general. Btw, I got my PS2 at the
PAL launch, it\'s still very fine !
-
Maybe it\'s not the quality that went back - maybe the electronics are just getting more delicate? ;)
-
Remake or not, whats wrong with thinking Game X is better than Game Y?
-
Ok, a remake can be better, but he was obviously refering to the sales. It\'s also pretty obvious that a remake might attract less people than a totally new game. Then one also needs to wonder: Bio Hazard was first and for so many years basically exclusive to PlayStation - them changing platforms is only the price they\'re paying for. It\'s obvious that any Resident Evil game would sell heaps more if it were on PS2. Them taking it to GameCube and crying over bad sales... well too bad Capcom! Suck it up.
-
I\'ve owned three PSone\'s, my friend has owned two PS2\'s and there has been HOW MANY posts on this before about people\'s PSones or PS2\'s dying? Too damn many, in my opinion. It is obvious Sony has a quality problem with their systems, there is simply to many people having problems with both generations. Hell, even game magazines have made fun of the fact that a lot of people had to stand their PSone\'s vertical just for a game to load. So, I think Mikami was right on the money on that issue.
As for the Kingdom Hearts comment - I believe it is childish for any developer to comment on any other developers game in a negative way.
Thats my two cents on this issue.
-
I\'ve also said it before, I see how a lot of people treat their electronics, even the ones that are convinced their treating it right, and it\'s truly a sad sight. I am not suprised at all how many systems brake.
It\'s really odd, that the people who I know treat their systems right, have never had such problems...
-
So you\'re saying there is no Sony defect...
Just people who don\'t know how to take care of their consoles?
-
I think that is what he is saying and in my opinion that is the most naive viewpoint. You are trying to tell me that all these people had problems with the Psone - simply because they didn\'t know how to treat it? Even though a lot of people, like myself own upwards of 20 systems and never had one break down . That seems like a very far-fetched opinion.
If it was just a couple complaints, I\'d agree, but when the problem is so well know that the media has caught onto it and message boards are often flooded with threads on PS2 disc read errors, PS2 freezing and other things - I think it is more than evident that Sony has a quality issue when it comes to manufactoring their consoles.
User error is common, but it is by no means the sole reason for the many complaints about both of Sony\'s systems.
-
No, I never said that. I do know though this subject is very overhyped and is not as bad as a lot make it to be. Quality issues? Sure, because some 100 people (who visit forums) have problems...
You do get outside do you?! Because, messageboards != the world. Those people who do complain could be kids for the most part - and I doubt you know each one of them to know for sure how well they treat their equipment.
BTW; I\'ve owned enough myself, ranging from low-end to high-end equipment in all categories. I speak from experience aswell and IMO, this issue is very overhyped. Besides, for the cases where the user is not at fault, you have a warranty that takes care of it. Saying that Sony especially has quality issues is laughable.
-
All consoles have their problems. Remember there are 33+ million PS2s sold worldwide.
Im hearing people who have problems with their Xboxes (Disc Read Error or HardDrive problems, some even have a display problem) and people who have problems with their GameCubes.
Ive been extremely careful with my PS2 and its still kickin\'.. No disc read errors what-so-ever *knock on wood*
Btw.. about people not treating their systems right..
Well I dont think anyone can top this stupid mofo :D
http://www.psxcare.com/damm-i-ps2.asp
He let his cat sleep on the PS2.. haha :)
Some good advice.. KEEP YOUR PS2 CLEAN. Clean the fan on the back and the vents regularly.. dust-on-lens=pain in buttox
-
Only time ive seen a PS2 not read any discs is after someone drops it or for some stupid ass reason someone hits it really hard. My cousin had his ps2 on launch day and has no problems with it and plays it like mad. He is also a neat freak so yeah its in still mint condition.
Mine still is in mint condition to. So i dunno sure there are defuncts but i dont think that is the only reason Sony\'s PS2 is selling well.
