I Recently Read An Article About Nike\'s Operations In Vietnam, And It Was Quite Disturbing To Me. I Knew It Was Bad, But I Didnt Know It Was This Bad. Here Are Some Of The Highlights.
-The Workers Are Not Making A Livable Wage. They Make An Average Of 20 Cents Per Hour, Or $1.60 A Day From Their Factory Jobs, But The Cost For Eating Three Simple Meals Ss $2.10 a day.
-Workers Aannot Go To The Bathroom More Than Once Per 8-Hour Shift And They Cannot Drink Water More Than Twice Per Shift.
-It is a common occurrence for workers to faint from exhaustion, heat, fumes and poor nutrition during their shifts.
-Verbal Abuse And Sexual Harassment Are Frequent, And Corporal Punishment Is Often Used.
-Women workers have complained about frequent sexual harassment from foreign supervisors. Even in broad daylight, in front of other workers, these supervisors try to touch, rub or grab their buttocks or chests. One supervisor told a female factory worker that it is a common custom for men in his country to greet women they like by grabbing their behinds.
-Health care is inadequate. At the Sam Yang Nike factory, with 6000 employees, one doctor works only two hours a day but the factory operates 20 hours a day.
And the worse part is that a nike shoe costs $1.20 to make, and is sold for $100. So "someone" is making a ****load of money, but yet, they still have to take advantage of they\'re workers.
But vietnam isnt the only country, this happens from many countries all around the world.

This stuff is true. I boycott Nike, and laugh at all the losers who give them free advertising by wearing clothes with the Nike logo. I do not respect any athletes who endorse Nike.

I agree with Nike being a complete joke but I can look past Jordan teaming up with them.

Makes me glad I\'m not wearing their shoes or anything. That\'s really bad. It\'s sad how companies abuse so many people just to pad their pockets that way.

The funny part about this story is that my school plays a video about all the bad things that Nike does in a class that it has nothing to do with. They just put it in to try to get kids to stop buying Nike.

So what your saying is that you dont respect about every athelete that takes part in and physical activity? Im sure bonds must use some nike made stuff. Hell Im sure Babe Ruth used some nike stuff. You saying you have no respect for them just because of what equipment they wear?

Meh, I\'m wearing a Nike shirt and a pair of Nike basketball shorts right now, and basically all the shoes i buy are Nike. I\'m a Nike whore.

Wow.. some of you guys are just now finding this out? What have you been living under a big Nike logo shaped rock? Meh.. I guess it\'s just my strong UAW heritage. I learned about this YEARS ago when I was up in Black Lake - Walter and May Ruther educational retreat. The AFL-CIO with UAW, Teamsters, and various other unions are doing what they can to help.. but since these people are in a whole other countries there\'s not much they can do without offical gov\'t backing. Fat chance of that happening with a Democratic president.. and you might as well forget about anything beind done while Bush is in office.
Besides.. there\'s enough problems at home with dozens of factories crossing the border (and ocean) every day, and the general weakening of the Union\'s presence since the Regan administration.
Long story short.. it sucks.. but there\'s not much we can do about it except for boycotting Nike. I don\'t see pop culture brainwashed kids giving up their "coo threads" jus to help support some village dweller in a country half a world away.

Funny thing is..almost every other lesser brand of clothing or shoes is exsposed for running sweatshops and shitty working conditions..not not meglo-million dollar nike. Me sense\'s crooked govt. has a hand in this as well..well 2 crooked governments.

all those guys named charlie working in the same factory has to be a human resources nightmare
