Title: Ps2 Drops To £170 In Europe
Post by: The Daywalker on August 28, 2002, 06:33:31 AM: "As of tomorrow, PlayStation 2 will cost £169.99 in the UK, a drop of £30 from today\'s price. The move has been heavily rumoured for more than a month, and is expected to force a similar reduction in price for Xbox at next month\'s European X02 event.
Nintendo is also said to be preparing a response to the move although no details are likely to be known until the company\'s breakfast presentation tomorrow ahead of London trade show ECTS.

The size of the drop has surprised some who expected to see PS2 come down to £150 before the Christmas rush, and the onus is now well and truly on Microsoft to bite the bullet: Xbox for £150, possibly even £130?

PS2 is currently selling around 11,000 units a week in Britain, with Xbox moving just over 3,000 consoles in the same region. Both figures are expected to boost massively in the run-up to Christmas, as are GameCube sales which are currently hovering at around 4,500 a week.

Rumour circulating this morning that GameCube will drop to £100 tomorrow.

Expect more on this throughout the day. PS2 for £170? Bargain, mate."

Something tells me that the PS2 will rule this Xmas season once again... just a hunch... :)

It must be in USA \'cause the games over here are as expensive as they were in the system\'s launching. BTW, how much are the games there? Here normally 60€ and if the game is "popular" around 63€ (Remember € = $)

The UK price is now 159 pounds for the Xbox versus
PS2 which is now 169 pounds. LOL, the PS2 is the most
expensive console once more .... ehmm I don\'t know
how much in USD that is...:hold:

We get them WAY later (IF we get them), at higher prices, with craptacular conversions (17.5% slower, choppy, ugly black borders, less fps [actual Pal TVs have 60Hz support, Sony] and not translated for most of us).

You have to love being a gamer in Europe :rolleyes:

PS: Have any of you seen the Pal conversions of DMC, Final Fantasy X or Onimusha? Laughable at best.

PAL Onimusha played fine, but it had borders. Tekken Tag had
NO borders, it DID have choppy framerate. heck !, when I first
played Onimusha I didn\'t even really noticed it had borders
just becuz I was \'absorbed\' by the game which proves it plays
fine. Pricing in Europe is still too high though. :o
