Title: Why have I not seen a 350Z yet?
Post by: Coredweller on September 02, 2002, 09:14:47 PM
I\'ve been driving around a bit this weekend and I haven\'t seen one in real life yet.  OK, I did see one at an autoshow last spring, but that was not the final factory version.  They are definitely arriving in the US right now, because people are posting all about their new cars on http://www.my350z.com/forum/  Like this guy:

PEOPLE ALL OVER ARE GOING NUTS - I REALLY THINK IT\'S THE COLOR THAT IS ATTRACTING ATTENTION I\'M NOT INTO A CAR TO ATTRACT ATTENTION I\'VE HAD CLASSIC CARS BEFORE LIKE A MINT 58 CORVETTE CONV. BUT CAUSE THIS CAR IS NEW AND THAT COLOR- I HARDLY CAN\'T TAKE IT OUT WITHOUT CAUSING A STIR. HAD PEOPLE TAKING PICTURES TODAY.THINK THIER CRAZYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Maybe he should reconsider who\'s crazy....  Oh well, I think the car is very cool but I\'m not considering buying one.  I\'d never buy a 1st model year anything, and I\'d prefer a convertible anyway.  I do really like them though.

I\'ve seen many around my small little old island, there was only like 7 that were initially all sold.. They say more are coming in though.

the one new car that I\'ve seen that actually made me take notice was a Mini Cooper!  I saw one the other day and it was like seeing the Weiner Mobile, I was so excited (insert gay joke about Samwise and weiner mobile)

Not everyone feels the same way about Nissans, so I\'ve heard.  I personally have no problem with them, but then I\'ve never owned one.  I can be fairly certain that they WILL fix things in future model years, even if they are minor things.  These are often fixes to things that don\'t affect every owner, but they crop up with enough regularity that they are worthy of a fix.

For example, in the three model years that the S2000 has been out, Honda has improved the transmission, adjusted the suspension, and released a few important TSBs.  One of the recent TSBs corrected a spark plug problem that resulted in some owners blowing their engines.  Like I said, some small number of owners, but not all.  They also made improvements like switching the rear window from plastic to glass, which makes the newer years that much higher in value.

I would prefer to wait and see what problems might be corrected, and what colors/trim lines are the most common.  I don\'t like to see a duplicate of my car 10 times a day.  I guess I\'m not they type that needs to be "the first on my block."  :)

the car looks like a porsche wannabe, from the front atleast.

This one picture does not show it very well, but in my opinion the car does not look anything like a Porsche.  I can see how you\'d get the impression from this picture though because the foreshortening makes the back look a lot like a 911.  If you see the whole thing, you\'ll notice it\'s much more angular than a Porsche.  I think it\'s better, but then I think almost anything looks better than a Boxster.  A 911 would be nicer, but then that\'s like a $50,000 price difference.  :)

The Toyota Supra and Mr-2 2 from 1991- 1998 never had a recall ever on it.

Recalls and little TSB\'s are wayyyyyyy different. Ask ford :D

Anywho..I knew what you meant core..Like a squeeky soemthing in the front suspension..or a rattly dash board. I was basically commenting on how one wont really need to worry about major problems b/c of the overall build quality..espescially their strong award winning motors. Their customer service is pretty decent too.

I still want a 2k3 Maxima, but the model I want is pretty much out of my price range :(

Thats because its a SUPRA!!!:D  Its one of the best japanese imports we have ever gotten in the states. The Toyota Supra and the Nissan Skyline are my dream cars...:facelick:

Anyways yeah, the nissan Z is a hot car. Would i buy one if i had the money...hell yeah i would. This car is a bang for the buck. It only costs around $28,000 yet it has 280 horsepower, V6 (i\'m not for sure, it might be 4), its fast, prolly gonna be a chick magnet, and did i mention it has 280 horsepower!

Damn, talk about high performance for cheap money.  I wonder how it compares to the WRX sti.

Not really an apt comparison.

WRX is AWD while the 350Z is RWD.
WRX is a turbo 4 cylinder, 350Z is an NA 6 cylinder
WRX has 4 seats, 4 doors, 350Z has two.
WRX sTi is not available in the US, and it\'s not certain it ever will be.

But both are nice and cheap sports cars with high performance.

That\'s what everyone hopes, but it hasn\'t been announced yet.  I hope you\'re right.

Supposedly they are just keeping it quiet as long as possible. I don\'t think they would loose their fair market share. They have sooo much to possibly gain.

They\'re probably trying to protect sales of current base model WRXs as long as possible.  :)

Yea, but the STi is rumored to be several grand more..like 30-33k. So that would be enbough to bump the sti up into the next "class" of cars, plus the perfoamnce will be worth the extra money.

I can see what Cored\'s saying about not getting the first model and see what recall problems arise, but again, it\'s a Nissan.  [bias]They arguably make the best V6s in the world and the VQ engine that\'s in the new Z has been tried and tested since the late 90\'s in the Maxima SE\'s and Pathfinders.  It\'s built like a tank and will probably last over 300k miles.[/bias]

I\'d take the new Z over an STi or even Evo anyday.  Imagine turboing that beefy 287hp V6!!

heh, Im sure there is a s/c or turbo kit in the works already. Probably by Stillen..hell, that had a nice performance and looks package ready for the new altima\'s before they were available to the public.
