In July, the Wall Street Journal reported that Microsoft was considering launching a new game machine in 2003 or 2004 that would cost about $500 and be able to pause live TV and record programs onto a hard drive.
its official, microsoft employs crackheads

Heck, you can by an ultimate Television for 50 bucks at Best Buy and just set your XBox next to it for 199. SO you have this 500 dollar device for 250 bucks.

Brilliance, pure brilliance...

Haha, although PS3 would arrive to US and Europe in 2006... :)

Still, I find the \'Cell\' idea of multiple processing kind of silly.
They imply that several home appliances could run a game.
This implies, or maybe I should say.... is likely to mean, that
I will have to buy home appliances which are in some way
compatible to the so called Cell technology. This probably
means those appliances will have to be from the companies
who make the Cell such as Sony, Toshiba and IBM. -> I don\'t want to be "forced" to buy a Sony sandwich toaster or a IBM pc
and so on, just to be able to run a PS3 game. Or am I not getting something right here ?

M$ talks crap right now. 500 bucks? Who would pay that much for a game system? I\'d rather pay 300 (if it is) for PS3.

Are they talking about netwroking all the computers across the internet, and sharing processing power? If so, that would be idiotic, true we would all have faster computers at first, but why would people upgrade their computers after that, concidering that a 2.2g comp, would perform the same as a 300 mhz comp. there would be no advancment in technology.
however, if he\'s talking about networking your household appliances, then I typed the above for no reason, and am an idiot.

WorD FroM Big BIrD Is THat ThE IBM "cell" 110GHZ now is it me or does that sound too damn good to be true? but if it is thats gangsta!

Sony needs to be slapped. They should stick with the old fashion "plastic box with lots of chips" method.
-
I would guess in 5 years we should be around 20 gigahertz for computers. That will be cool.
-
^^^It\'ll more than likely be in the mid-30\'s

Shared processing is a far-fetched idea for most situations (\'cept for things like SETA,etc) . The mere idea that it can be used for the PS3 is idiotic. Innovation doesn\'t always equal brilliance. In my humble opinion, the PS3 won\'t deliver on any of these promises and it will stick with the tried and trued plastic box with a bunch of chips. This whole "CELL" is nothing more than hype. Boring hype, at that.
-
I really wish Sony wouldn\'t constantly set up their supports like that with all these promises. :(

Let\'s just hope they cut the expenses and sell processing time with seti kind of projects that your machine would do with extra processing power, and leave the games unaffected with the whole sharing.
It would be nice especialy if U would get some bonus from what your console have done, like discount\'s from games or something.
Now I just wait to see how well they manage to disapoint me ;)
