Title: Anyone know what this error is?
Post by: GigaShadow on September 09, 2002, 03:10:29 PM
I just installed a Geforce 4 440 MX and when I rebooted I received the following message in my bios:

SERIAL PRESENCE DETECT (SPD) device data missing or inconclusive

Press F1 to continue

I have flashed the bios, installed all driver updates even for the chipset.

Specs:

PIII 866
512 MB RAM
40 Gig HD
GeForce 4 440 MX Vid Card
Intel D815EPEA Mobo

I have tried about everything.  If someone has had this or seen this before please help!

Well I will answer my own question:

Basically the message means that a DIMM isn\'t being recognized my your motherboard.  I have the original 256 Kingston chip in with a Centon 256 chip.  My motherboard doesn\'t like the Centon chip because it is not SPD compliant.  So I had to go pick up another Kingston chip.
