Title: How do you get around inactivity?
Post by: JBean on September 10, 2002, 09:09:57 PM
I\'ve played about 3 games now where I was way ahead in the first half, and the other guy pisses me off and quits the game.  I figure no problem and finish up against the computer.  My problem is that my ISP diconnects after roughly 15mins of inactivity.  So these games that should have been wins aren\'t because of my isp kicking me off the server before I can register a win.

Does anyone know a way to get around getting booted for inactivity?

So how does your ISP judge that your inactive?  Appearantly they are not watching all the different packet protocols.

Hrmm, maybe you can log into a web site that is sreaming data, or have you window refresh the page every 5mins, not sure, but there must be something.  I suggest checking the new-groups and such, other people must have had this issue.

once you start playing the computer it may not send anything at all over the net.  That\'s where his problem comes into play.

Call Sony..  They should do an update or something that makes it ping the server or something once every minute or so for people who drop for this very reason if there really is no way around it.

Yeah Vid, i\'m thinking the same thing.  That the ps2 dosen\'t ping or anything while you play the computer.  I\'m trying to run my ps2 using my computer internet connection (my computer has a prog to ping every 5 mins.), but so far I haven\'t had much sucess.  I can login to the server but get dropped almost immediately.  My ****in\' hub sucks.  (I have dial-up so no router would work for me)

If you have dial up and are disconnected for inactivity, I\'m pretty sure you can go into your dialup connection options and change that.

I had dialup a long time ago and I had that problem, my memory is vauge, but I think there is some option in the dialup connection for changing the amount of time that your isp dissconnects you.
