This is straight out of OPS2M-UK which had a feature on the PS2 online in the USA and under the heading
MEANWHILE, BACK IN THE UK is this below
So what does this mean to us PS2 owners in the UK? if the idea of online gaming appeals to you, you\'re probably wondering why SCEE has yet to announce similar plans for Europe. Their reluctance is probably due to slightly differing priorities to their US counterparts. While SCEA seem content to just give gamers the chance to get to grips with online gaming, SCEE has made a commitment to much wider and more ambitious network functions. These include web browsing, online chat, video messaging, downloadable game demos and music samples plus video on demand and secure cd ripping. All would rely on a high speed broadband connection to operate. This is highlighted by the fact that any European version of the network adapter will not feature an analogue 56k modem fuction and has instead been dubbed the broadband unit. It seems SCEE would rather give a minority of broadband-Subscribing PS2 owners a high quality service from the start. Offering an analogue modem option would attract more customers, but its potentially sub-standed quality isn\'t something SCEE seems prepared to risk. Rest assured, as soon as solid plans are unveiled you\'ll hear about them here first.
And i bet this is the reason Capcom have scrapped the online play in Auto Modellista for the European version because it only supports 56k connections

Pal owners get screwed again. I know I\'m not one of them, but that doesn\'t mean I don\'t think this sucks any less.

ooseven, we all europeans know perfectly the "solid plans" of Sony in our continent. I can\'t understand why the hell the adaptor will be only BB compatible... :(

No one is going to miss out on the fun. Every where SCE has a branch plans are already afoot. Being from New Zealand, I thought that we would miss out even more so. This is not the case. Networks should be rolling out soon. I would say by mid 2003 it will be starting to take off.

Broadband only?
That\'s me out of the running then!

BB only sounds like a bonus. You don\'t have to play with all the little 56k trolls. j/k

While Vid said his comment was a joke I believe in what he said.
Comon its 2002 already, ditch the 56k and get a BB connection. While you guys think you are getting screwed I think you sould re-read that paragraph and look at all the features that you are getting.
For those of you who cannot get a BB connection becuase of location... Ya, you\'re screwed, quit ur bitchin.
