Title: PS2 Grinding noise
Post by: GigaShadow on September 15, 2002, 07:25:18 AM
When I put a game in, shut the tray and hit reset the PS2 makes this terrible grinding noise.  After that it works fine.  The game is flat and in the proper way so I know it isn\'t that.  Anyone else have this problem?

I noticed this sound when I was playing non DVD games

I owuld clean the laser with a DVD lens cleaner as well as vacuuming out your vent... lightly

there on the bottom front and bottom back

just preventive maintenance

Ps2 is a dust magnet for sure, vacuuming the vents as ddaryl said should help

I vacuum the vent of my ps2 once every 3 or 4 months or whenever I see there is too much dust on the ventiliation.  When I first bought my ps2 last year, in the box there this notice or warning piece of paper that tell ps2 users to vacuum the vent regularly.  I found and read the notice by luck.  I never found any problem with my ps2 ever since I first bought it and I never have to clean the ps2 laser with the cleaning disk...
I think people should pay attention to the Attention paper that is in the ps2 box.

Yeah it only does it when I first put the games in.  It started doing it with FFX.  I didn\'t even know about it till my wife told me.  I promptly vacuumed it out and it still did it for a bit, but as of yesterday I haven\'t heard it again.  Strange... now I have a brand new PS2 just sitting in its box waiting to go in if my original PS2 has to go on injured reserve.  I would love to think that the sound won\'t come back- then I could return the new PS2 and get a GameCube :)
