My boss got some new DTA systems in(stand alone engine control units) last week. Any rate..I have been pondering this for quite some time now since it cost\'s about $1300. Well, he decided to let me install it and I just pay some now..some later..etc. I start prepping all of the wires, sensors and connections to connect with a stock wire harness.
Well fast forward to today, I got on the dyno and started to tune the damn thing. Well..turns out I leaned the fuel out just a tad too much and now cylinders 2 and 3 are TOAST!(for the 3rd time)I did EVERYTHING in small increments and I have a built bottom end, so Im not really sure what has gone wrong as of yet. I only tore down the top half just to check if it was the pistons or not. Guess Ill find out more within the week.
I just basically wanted to vent somewhere.
Any donations are appreciated :D (j/k)

well, i would donate something if i understood one freaking word of what you just said.

I think he\'s building a spaceship.

oooooohhhhhhhh...

try throwing the flux capacitor in there

Yep, just have to produce the 1.1 gigawatts of power to use it.
Does anyone know where to get the plutonium?
Any Libyan members here?:D
-
dont worry about it.... just think of..ermmmmm.. boobies, boobies make everything ok
-
boobies arent going to buy me new pistons or the costs of re-machining my block if need be.
-
yeah well i was just trying to cheer you up a bit, dont worry, it happens to everyone, im sure your not the first or last person to do that
-
I just saw the most horendous word in the racers vocab, LEAN! You poor bastard...
My condolences to your cylinders...
-
kop..believe me..I check boobies EVERYDAY..they didnt help today :(
Something you will apreciate tho...the drinking is doing the job though. :D
Omen..seriously..Id rather have a spun bearing or something rather than going lean. I guess Ill be happier when I find out if it was my fault or some sort of mechanical error.
-
/me buys luckee some drinks....
sorry to hear about your spaceship....
-
yeah alcohol helps alot. but do it with peep and dont get a problem........
-
lol..I think its too late for the problem stage..lol I drink fairly often, it just hasnt affected my daily life yet, but I will drink as often as possible. Something else Im tyring to work on.
-
Well if it is your fault, just blame it on the car, that\'s what all great mechanics do. Then charge yourself extra!
-
I actually thought you were here crying because Team Cocky OWNED last night....
heh
BTW, we shot a pretty good show today. I had an engine building contest between Dave and a partner and Sam and a partner. I also had Al Uncer Jr. there to referee the match. It was pretty fun. I bet it only took them about 20-25 minutes to build the thing. And damn did that thing rock. It was just an engine on a stand with just short headers on it. Monster sound. It sounded like two drag cars on the set, freaking loud as hell. It should end up being a fun show. Much more along my style of shooting. Fast paced...
As far as needing new pistons, heh... Sucks to be you bro.. Thank God you have another car...

double poster
Don\'t feel bad luckee, wait about 2 months and you\'ll get to see a thread by me talking about how much of an idiot I am. I\'ll be intalling a nitrous kit (probably a 75 shot wet kit), and I have a horrible feeling about it. I can just see myself not connecting the extra fuel injector, and running lean on the track....and walking home.
-
Just don\'t forget to prime the nitrous by injecting a little with the engine off, then firing the engine up.
Oh, I love that sound.
-
I know I\'m not a engineer so dont make fun of me, but can\'t you buy new pistons? If your talking about the holes (lol) how can you bust those?

vid must have deleted it, but you DPed right above me

o sorry. my mouse doesnt make a click noise when i click. so i dont know if i already pressed it, lol very short term memory.
btw luckee. about how much money do you need, if it is broken or whatever?
-
At the least it will be $450 for new pistons...thats if the block doesnt need to be refreshed. I have a spare block in excellent condition though. I just dont want to take it apart. It is basically a back up in case of SERIOUS damage.
Vivi..of course I can...but that doesnt mean that is the end of my problem. I have to find out if it was mechanical or if I just took too much fuel away. Either way, I dont have the moeny for new pistons now :( Stock or aftermarket pistons can easily be destroyed vivi.

little story about being dumb with cars, there was a guy at the track and he had a car with a screwed up nitrous solinoid, he did a run and afterwards he turned off his car. The screwed up solinoid stayed open and kept spraying. Then when he went to start his car he blew up his engine in front of everyone. And by blow up, I mean he blew the muffler clean off, blew his turbo, put a hole through his hood, launched his T-Body through the hood, it was nasty.

LOL that is the funniest $hit i\'ve ever heard!!!

Dude, it\'s huge. We accidently did what I wrote. We sprayed a little nitrous to test it. We even waited for quite a while and even opened up the intake to let it breathe. There was still some in there and since it wasn\'t mixed with gas, it was straight NOS, it blue the vaccuum lines off. It was a loud bang. Couldn\'t imagine what would happen if we had a real amount in it.
-
so you having anymore luck with it now?? as its been a few days now
-
I actually havent had a chance to do anything else..I have been busy at work and havent had time to do anything personal. After hours I just have been wanting to go home, shower, have a berr, surf the net..eat and goto sleep.
I *think* the rest of the week will allow me a little time to work on it during business hours..but if not..I think Im going to do so during the weekend.

LMFAO. what an idiot
Reminds me of this one time at automotive camp......
-
Why is he an idiot? If you just wanna post..go start a BS thread..dont go insulting for no apparent reason. Are you aware of how often nitrous solenoids can be stuck open?
Now if the guy KNEW the solenoid was focked an ran the car anyway..well yes he is stupid and disregard thee above. If not...go elsewhere.
