well, how long to 50 million?Source (http://www.playfrance.com/infos/viewnews.cgi?newsid1032432184,40917,)
-
sold or shipped? And any source? :)
-
seven, shipped. But 4 months ago, Sony announced that were had been shipped 30 million. Now, it\'s 40. And, according to Sony, they expect to sell more than 50 million before March 2003.
-
Sony is definately on their way to breaking some records. If they haven\'t broken them already.
-
seems like nothing can stop the beast
-
40 million is a lot , about 92 000 000 kg.
-
If the "Console war" was a Race.
the PS2 would be Drunk at a Kareokie Bar holding the First Prize while singing "we are the Champions" by Queen.
while the NGC and Xbouux still running.
-
Your right 007 but M$ might have bought the first price before the contest.
-
What\'s the first price Bossieman? rare?
-
The first price is a guarenteed 60 million + sold units next generation. But I guess M$ could not buy that.
-
40 Million is a lot of units, I expect this christmas will be a successful period for sony too.
-
great news for Sony as long as they keep investing the boat load of cash back into their consoles and developers
-
40+ hell yeah thats good.
but......
sony is letting go of all the good games the PS2 is known for, they shoulnt let that happen, its like Nintendo letting go of mario...its just stupid..
examples: metal gear 2, Medal of Honor, and some other ones that i probably dont know about.
-
true, If Nintendo got rid of mario, Star fox, Samus, Captain Falcon or Bowser were would they be?
Too bad Sony let Square go make FF for GC but it wont be anything like FF7. Altough after this first Action/adventure FF they could learn not to expirement and just do what works.
-
is there any way it could reach 100 million by the end of it\'s life?
50 by March 2003... another pricedrop after that might bring in some buyers.

Correction.. thats the BEST ;)

It\'d be interesting to know how long it took the original PS to get to 40 million, for comparisons sake.
I believe the PS2 got to 30 million something like 5 months sooner than the original PS did.
-
It\'s easy job for SONY...since half of them will be repeat sales for broken consoles. LOL.
-
Most "broken consoles" are caused by poor care for the system...
I had the original PS since it came out, it works fine even now.
Had my PS2 since launch, not a single problem.
I really wonder what the people who say their PS2 broke a few months after they bought it actually do to their system.

That\'s probably true, but Sony launch units tend not to last in the long run. The original Playstations launch units tended to be defective as well.

Better knock on wood. ;)
-
mine has locked up on me once during J & D, and started skipping on my flawless FFX DVD...
I\'ve only had it for a little over 6 months.
-
I am knocking on wood too but I am starting to have lock-up probs........and i clean my lens every motnh and spray compressed air in the vents to keep my ps2 clean.......
:hat:ScottyJ:hat:
-
Save some of that wood for me!

Original PSX from 1995 - works fine even now. I abused that console. Trips in a suitcase, car, borrowed by friends....
Original PS2. Still kicking. Nearly 2 years old now.
Xbox is one expensive foot stool.
-
That boggles the mind. What really puzzles me is how can any NGC or X-Box game even crack the top twenty in sales with that many PS2s out there? Unless a lot of people bought them only to play DVDs and are not buying a lot of games. Unreal. Nothing can compete with those kinds of numbers.

I don\'t take care of my PS2 at ALL. Never once cleaned the lense, the whole thing has dust all through it.
Never once a problem.
Hell, my PSX had a lump of sugar with ANTS all through it and it never had a problem.

The beast will never be stopped since it practically owns ALL the japanese support. Both Konami and Capcom have stated many times that the PS2 is their system of choice to develop on. I see the XBOX fans over the TXB forums dissing all the Capcom and Konami major titles (DMC2, ZOE2, Onimusha2) just because they WONT ever come on their system. Suddenly, japanese support has become nothing important to them...lol. Pathetic. Trying to make them selves feel better when the truth deep inside hurts like a bit(h.
As long as Sony holds the major key japanese developers in its grasp, it has nothing to fear.
-
cause japan controls the market, no matter what anyone says
"he who controls the spice, controls the universe"
-
mm is Frank Herbert!
-
I think Onimusha2 is coming to XBOX.
-
yes, its TBA 2003
(whatever that may mean)
-
What I really wonder is that I remember capcom saying all Onimushas from 2 and beyond and all DMCs would be exclusive to PS2.Now Onimusha2 is coming to XBOX an there are rumors of a DMC game on GC.What the hell is going on here?

I never heard about Onimusha2 coming to XBOX till now. Same goes for the DMC game for the GC.... (sweet jesus...).
Rumors that have no truth in them i say.
This Xmas season will be crucial: If the XBOX flunks, then you can erase the XBOX from the Japan market and developer support all together for GOOD in my opinion.
CNN had an article about it: http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/fun.games/09/23/xbox.test.reut/index.html
-
i agree but with Microsoft bying Rare things may change, well not really but you know just saying... nebody heard of perfect dark the sequel??
and as for sony letting all its bad ass games go to other consoles thats just bullSh*t. how the hell are they gonna let that happen, onimusha was ok, but DMC thats just plain stupid!
-
GTA series sells PS2\'s. Trust me, everytime I say PS2, someone asks me if I have GTA3 or if I\'m going to buy Vice City.
-

who let him out of his cage?
Back on topic. I\'ve still got a nintendo(NES) running in near perfect condition, PSone, yeah the big grey one since launch, works perfect, and PS2 not a single problem. I\'d say 9 out of 10 times broken or defect consoles are due to user care. WTF do you do to yer systems, mine last just fine.

As for Sony letting go of all their high class title.. well there\'s not a whole helluva lot they can do about it. They aren\'t "Sony\'s" titles people.. even if you\'ve only ever known them to be on Playstation consoles. They\'re property of the compaines who make them, period. Don\'t even bother trying to contest it. When Gran Tourismo, Jack & Daxter, Syphon Filter, Twisted Metal, or other Sony made games start hitting the Xbox or NGC.. then you\'ll have a right to complain and get worried. Besides.. you seem to forget that noone ever knew about 9/10ths of these franchies going into the 32 bit generation.. they were all new. Let em go.. and lets see what new and original concepts the 128 bit generation brings us alright? Getting rid of these oldies but goodies is jus clearing the plate for the high-profile games of tomorrow.
Secondly, as for those Capcom rumors. They are just rumors AFAIK. Even so.. don\'t act surprised when CAPCOM ports an EXCLUSIVE title to a different console. They\'re port happy money whores who don\'t know the meaning of the word exclusive. They\'ve proven this time and time and time again. How long does it take to get the point that no matter what Capcom says.. if the game becomes a hit it\'ll end up hitting most to all other platforms.
Now NAMCO.. there\'s a company I still have a ton of respect for. RidgeRacer has never gone multiplatform (or was there an N64 version?), Tekken has never gone multiplatform, and Soul Calibur.. a game which would have sold a ton on the PS2 was kept soully as a Dreamcast game because simply.. Namco said that you\'d never find it on another platform.. and they kept their word.
-
there was a Ridge Racer 64 I believe :)
But there were 4 Ridge Racer\'s on PSX so that\'s alright ;)
-
The new RR is going multiplatform
