Hi everyone.
I have finally bought a PS2 (don\'t shoot me - I already have an xbox but was getting frustrated with the lack of quality games).
Anyway.. A few questions...
Component Video VERSES S-Video
Will I see much difference? I don\'t believe the PS2 has hi-definition? But will it make a difference in quality anyway? I may have to invest in a new receiver because I\'ve run out of Component connections to my TV. Is the difference worth it?
Digital Output
Again I have a problem with lack of connections on my receiver. Do many PS2 games use Dolby Digital or DTS? A friend has just gave me Medal Of Honor Frontline to try, it mentions DOLBY SURROUND. Will that need the Digital Output to be connected or will the typical red/white cables be sufficient? Does FFX (what a great game) use digital output, or GT3?
DVD Output
I\'m in the US now but originally from England. I believe I can buy a DVD which allows REGION 1 DVD Playback. However it doesn\'t mention PAL anywhere - does it play REGION 1 PAL Disks?
*******s
I don\'t want to use these to copy games or anything like that, but just wondering if their is much of a PS2 Scene for homebrew stuff, my main interest will be for emulators, BLEEM would be nice.
Thanks, sorry if my first post is long!

S-vhs is superior component, twice the resolution. go for s-vhs.
I use my PS2 as main DVD so I only use the optical, its clearer sound and just about everything is better.
Your PS2 will only play region 1 NTSC dvds. But you can buy a adapter so you can see all regions.
Check out some of the linux PS2 sites out there for homebrewed stuff.
BTW Welcome to the forums.

Welcome... here are some quick answeres:
1. If you are from the UK, then go for RGB ! It´s the best signal for your TV.
2. Go for Dolby Digital and DTS... no matter what !!! If you want the whole fun in PS2 Games and DVD then an optical connection is a must.
3. http://www.gamefreax.de for your "special" Questions
4. NO... there is no and will be no Emulator for the PS2 !
5. BTW: You can play NTSC DVDs on a PAL PS2... see 3.

The manual says the Component Video is the best. I\'m getting that but not sure if I should since I am starting to review PS2 games.
