I am so devested. I loved her so much. She was 11 yrs old, and last month we took her to the vet. We found out she had a tumour in her liver.
It just happened so quickly. Yesterday she was fine, walking around, and today she was just so helpless.
I don\'t know how I could ever own another pet, as I could never go through this again.
-
It\'s better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.
You had years of friendship and love, now because it ended (which you knew one day it would) you\'re never going to own another pet?. Sad..
Sorry to hear about it BTW, I\'ve lost lots of pets too..
-
I know this sucks, happend to me to, Our dog got cancer in the the stomach.
I sorry for your loss
-
Sorry about your dog. I\'ve been there myself.
A new puppy usually will cure the blues. :)

That\'s the best way to go dude. I hope I am happy one day and then off the next. At least you know he didn\'t suffer from tumours for years.
It sucks to lose a pet, but look at how much fun you had with him.
My dog Stanley turns 5 next month. I say to him all the time that he is going to die at the worst time of Logan\'s life..
Any of you lose a dog at around age 8? That is going to be real tough.
Good luck to you sir Racer.... You know you have us to lean on.... Even though we kid around with you all the time we still care....
-
I hear ya Vid. I have two dogs - one is 4 and the other is 2 - the four year old one will probably die around the time my son is 7 or 8. On the bright side it teaches them about death and that life is not forever and should be cherished. Better a pet than say a mother, father or grandparent. I love my dogs and I dread the day they are gone.
On another note my grandmother lost her dachsund recently and won\'t get a new one. She lives alone and my family worries about her since she has no friends. My wife and I were going to drive up to see and surprise her with a new one, but my grandmothers fear is that she will die before the new dog does.
-
So tell her that you will take care of the dog after she goes..
then secretly put it down ;)
-
Heh tried that :) , but we wouldn\'t put it down. Besides my grandmother is only in her late 70\'s and my family tends to live up into the 90\'s so chances are she would outlive the dog.
-
buy her a HORSE!
Actually, at that age I think a cat is probably the right animal.. they tend to live for quite a few years, have you considered one of those for her?
-
Nah my family likes dogs - not cats. Shhh don\'t tell my wife. She won\'t suspect me when hers mysteriously disappears. ;)
-
I had a dog put down a few years ago, he was 13 and had arthritis so he couldn\'t walk. It was a very sad time.
The main thing to remember is that the dog is not suffering any more.
-
I\'m sorry to hear that buddy
I have to dogs one 8 years old and one 3 years. I don\'t even want to think about about one of they dying.
R.I.P

#Racer# sorry to hear anout your lose man, I went through the same thing on August 26th. My dog of 8 years died after a long battel with what was believe to be spinal cancer. Just know that your dog is now in a better place.
And when I was in the same situation as you are now, I found that a puppy may be the best medicine. Don\'t think of it as a replacement for a lost loved one, but just a new member of the family to love.
-
A family pet that died is a family loss. Hey, you loved her and that\'s all she wanted from you. Cheer up. She lived a happy life.
I\'d hold back on a puppy, though. Time to sit back and take it all in. A new puppy is one change too many in a short span of time, IMO.
EDIT - my dog is 12 years old. I\'m scared for ole Rocky. I\'m scared for me.
-
Agreed. You don\'t want a new puppy right off the bat.
What kind of a dog was it?
-
Sorry bout your dog hun.. I lost my older doggy last christmas..
-
i had to have my cat put to sleep a few years ago... its still the hardest thing ive ever been through which is saying alot. its amazing how attached one can get to an animal.
sorry to hear it racer, stay up buddy.
-
Sorry about that Racer, I know what it\'s like. :(
We had to put my dog down because she had diabetes. Near the end she could hardly move or go up stairs. When we finally took her in, her veins kept collapsing when they tried to put her to sleep. :(
-
i wanted to be in the room with my cat when they did it, on one hand it was so ****ing hard to watch him die.
but i held his head while they put the shot in and he was looking me right in the eyes the whole time, i literally watched him die, and it made me feel a little better knowing that i was the last thing he saw.
im gettin teary eyed now:(
-
i remember when we had to have our dog put down, was really bad
may sound weird but atleast it wasnt a family member or a friend
-
Dude.. I\'m sorry bout yer loss man, but never having another pet again? Maybe this sounds cold.. but she was just a dog. I\'ve gone through a lot of pets out here cause the road v\'s off and surrounds my property.. so there\'s a lot of traffic. All our cats were outdoor cats (cept for the one I got now) and after having to scrape up your favorite pet in two or more pieces with a shovel a few dozen times you tend to not let it get to you anymore. We haven\'t had too many dogs.. but they were all outdoor too. Out of 10 I think only one didn\'t die by getting hit by a car. We jus had our Jack Russell Terreier get hit about a week ago. :( Ah.. nothing makes you loath humanity more than to watch someone swerve off the road and almost run their car into a ditch jus for the thrill of killing a stranger\'s beloved pets.
Really tho, she was just a dog.. get another one. Not to replace her.. but to do what dogs do.. keep you company, love & slober on ya, and sniff your crotch. Hmm.. or you could jus get a slightly retarded girlfriend. :D

Ya think that\'s bad.. trying killin em yourself. We had this kitten named Special K. He was born deformed.. his head was crumpled in and his left eye was ENOURMOUS. Nearly half the size of his head. I know it sounds sick.. but I loved the lil bastard. I spent alot of time with him cause god knows if I was all fugly like that I\'d want to be loved on a lil too. Well anyhow, after about a year it was obvious he was in pain and would be for his entire life. The only thing we could do was to put him down. I had to walk a quarter of a mile to the creek with him tied in a burlap sack.. struggling inside and mewing.. and drop him into the stream. That\'s about one of the hardest things I\'ve ever had to do. It was for the best tho.

That sucks :( It always sucks when animals die. I had a dog die a while ago.
If you plan on getting a new pet: Buy a bird. My pet bird is the coolest animal in the world. There are so many positive things about it, it\'s amazing.
1) He shuts up when you turn off the light.
2) He stays in one place unless you want to play with him.
3) He\'s small--easy to smuggle into airports etc.
4) He talks--he says "bye-bye" and stuff.
5) He\'s my friend--and only my friend. It\'ll bite everyone else, other than me. What a great way to keep away evil family members and stuff.
6) He\'s a tough guy. He leaves my 85 pound dog cowering in fear.
7) It doesn\'t throw up all over the house.
8) etc.
-
Thats messed up. I haven\'t lost a pet to death, but giving one away is hell too.

Ever try a parrot?

I\'m so sorry to hear about your loss, Racer. But she\'ll always be with you. Pets are like that.

Thanks guys,
She was a Silky Terrier, kinda like a Maltease Terrier, only black with tan and grey socks/highlights.
She was gorgeous. It was very strange today, I came through the door and she wasnt their to greet me. Very strange feeling.
