This game could have been goodm if it wasn\'t for the SUPER crapy controlls and extrem slowdowns in some places. Also i don\'t feel there is much of a story to it. I would give it 5/10.
Anyone else have an opinion?
-
9/10
:) What\'s wrong with the controls?
-
i give it a 9/10 simply because i wanted more of it
great game with rare slowdown
what do you mean story? like WWII didnt have enough story
-
I thought exactly the same about the controls when I played the demo version before its release. They seem to think a logical way to make controls is to turn and walk on different mushrooms. NO.
JUST NO!!.
This is correct.
Left Mushroom - Walk forwards/backwards
Turn (rotate)
Right Mushroom - Strafe left and right
Look up/down (please, no inverted crap as I\'m walking not flying)
I think they call it the legacy control method (found in Halo & Quake). If you can\'t make the controls do this then, even if it\'s the best FPS around, it\'s crap, kinda like Fur Fighters (or plushies with attitude as I prefer to call them).
As for story, what more can you want over and above the genuine weaponry, proper German speaking enemies, locations that look plucked straight from Saving Private Ryan and atmosphere and music that should be in a major Hollywood blockbuster.
Picture this, Springfield loaded, looking down the road, an innocents head drifts towards the centre of the crosshair,.............. I just can\'t pull the trigger. I love murdering innocents in games but this one made me f**king angry when the civvies were in danger!!
11/10, bring on some deathmatches next time though as Red Faction\'s getting dull.

So your opinion sucks :p
The TimeSplitters control set up has been adopted and accepted by almost all FPS\'s, including Halo. Get used to it, I find it MUCH more accurate..
sheesh, it\'s emulating the PC keyboard/mouse setup..
-
The controls in MOH are fully customiseable so you can\'t really use an excuse that its crap because of the controls.
-
Ehhh after playing MOHAA this game is a bit over hyped. I guess if you don\'t own a PC the rating could be justified. The first time I played it I couldn\'t hit a damn thing and it left me wanting the mouse and the keyboard badly. I also noticed in MOHF your health goes down a lot slower than in MOHAA. I guess this is to make up for the weak controls. Take Omaha Beach for example - in MOHAA its difficult to just make it to the base of the first pillbox. In MOHF I ran around with out cover taking hits left and right and still made it all the way through the level.
Still for a console its pretty cool. I will probably buy the Xbox version as it will be multiplayer.

I\'d love a rollerball arrangement on a joypad, it\'d make aiming great fun.

XBox is getting Allied Assault, not Frontline.
Unless it\'s been changed?
-
Good point Bob - I do believe it is Frontline because I did see Arnhem in some screen shots. Allied Assault is coming out with an expansion for the PC that has Arnhem so I really don\'t know.
Speaking of which I am really getting excited about the PC expansion. Battle of the Bulge, 10 new weapons including portable MG 42\'s!!! Without getting too much off topic let me say this - MOHAA is great single player game, but the multiplayer is so much more. Maybe EA will release a new MOH for the PS2 that is multiplayer - lets cross our fingers.
-
They are already working on the next Medal of Honor and plan on improving on areas that people have complained about, namely the linearity of Frontline.
And originally it was announced that the XBox version was Allied Assault - not Frontline. I just wasn\'t sure if it had changed since then.
-
Frontline is horrible in every way when compared to Allied Assault.

How can you say this about Frontline while you bash Halo?
-
cause i dont have a superior PC version of halo to compare it to
MOH:F didnt make you go thru the same levels 3 times to make the game longer like halo did
the slowdown in halo wasnt rare, it was persistant (on superior hardware?)
ummm, thats about all i can think of right now
-
Nope its Medal of Honor Frontline. I just looked at Gamestops website. I guess it did change since I did find an article from back in May that labled it MOH Allied Assault. It is scheduled for 11/12 2002 which will be right around when Xbox live goes up.
-
The slowdown happend only about 10x more in Frontline. And Frontline and Allied Assault can\'t even be said in the same breath.
-
I consider myself a console gamer 1st and pc 2nd, but I have to admit Allied Assault it 50x much better than Frontline. The AI is sooo dumb in the console version it made me feel like I was in a shoosting gallery. And the control is a joke, but that\'s after being spoiled with a k/m on the pc.
One thing I liked better in FL is the presentation. I like how EA intro\'ed the first level and how you got out of the water into a big gunfight.
btw- My AA clan is called the Foxhounds, if you see our server listed try it out. ;) I\'ll be THX...
-
I\'m with [WFAC] Elite Pvt. Phil, err, something like that.
-
MOH:FL 6/10
MOH:AA 9/10
-
personally i love the timesplitters set up for controlling, i enjoyed moh, but yeah i wanted abit more from it... 7.5 /10 for me
-
Frontline is coming out for the X-box and the Cube.
-
Frontline-8.0. Just another game to me.
AA-9.0. Not the greatest shooter even, not even anywhere near it. Though it is superior to Frontline in every possible way.
Halo-10. Quite simply the best FPS ever created IMO. And no, there isn\'t "persistant" slowndown in it, not even in co-op or multiplayer.
-
Goldeneye / Perfect Dark had the best controls from a FPS with the N64 controller. No doubt about it.
-
Perfect Dark was sick.
-
Maybe it just my playstation, but there is quite a few places with some real slowdowns (there should be NONE) and the fact that aiming is quite hard without m/k. I think red fraction solved this in a very good way.
My complait about the story is that it is not THAT involving. I just feel I am waling around picking of germans from stage to stage.
I guess its hard to make a good FPS on a consol, maybe i should get a mouse and keybord for it....
-
halo had no slowdown?
come on man, you can lie to us, thats fine
but dont dupe yerself
halo was one of the most repetative FPS\'s ever

Any news on Halo for PS2, it\'d be ugly and stuttering to the max.
-
-
MM, it looks like your day just fell apart, what are you thinking about the Halo/PS2 combo?
-
fell apart?
did I mention PS2 and halo in the same sentence?
no, some troll did
only the PC version will do halo any justice (where the title should have stayed)
-
great.. turned into a thread about Halo.
If MoH: Frontline had workable co-op (with steady framerate) it would have been 10x the game Halo was.
And my copy of Halo has extremely minimal slowdown. Even in co-op on the final run on The Maw. (Maybe they optimised the PAL version?)
-
welp, this thread has turned into console debating
and since we dont have a console debating forum anymore......
