Title: I just got a new job!, go me.
Post by: Heat on September 24, 2002, 10:55:07 AM
It\'s basically all to do with comps, they sell, fix and build, I\'m being trained this week for free then I start on Monday, today I learnt how to put in a floppy drive, video card, sound card and a modem, I also did some software like installing OS on customers machines.

Congrats.

One question though.....they had to teach you these things? why not simply hire somebody who already knows how to do this if you don\'t mind me asking.

:)

Normally jobs like that make you do the training.

I\'m with no-one, it\'s strange they would hire someone they would have to train, when there are soooo many people out there who already know how to do those things.

anyways, congratz Heat

Maybe its a job where you need a "qualification".

At the end of the week he may get a certificate to say he is now qualified.

Eh? I think it would just make more sense to hire someone with a previous background in computer repair / building, instead of hiring someone that they must show how to do those things. Yes, normally any job makes you do some sort of training - but a lot of times it isn\'t to that degree.

Either way, congratulations.

I\'m willing to bet that it\'s a big faceless company, one that would hire people to assemble computers who have no experience.  I\'m thinking it\'s circuit city or best buy.

he\'s probably cheaper to hire, junior rates or Trainie rates etc...  A person who\'s fully qualitied like ME would get paid to much. Grrrr, bastards.

I agree.  Anyone should know these simple things.  But I am willing to bet it\'s a Save our ass kind of thing where they want to make sure he knows how to do it THEIR way.

They may like their ribbon cables plugged in with the left hand rather than the right hand or something pety like that.

What it is, he has techs who are there just building machines all day, but he wants a few poeple who can serve the people, run computers and build them, so there just teaching me the building side, it\'s actually pretty easy. There a small company that does very well because of it\'s low prices, and he advertised for someone he could train so I thout Id have a piece of that.
