I was watching Fox News last night and saw a blurb on Canada banning satellite dishes for home owners (ie. DirecTV, Dish Network, etc). Why is this? Any Canadians in this forum?
Also why has the Canadian military dropped to 55,000 men/women??? You can\'t even defend a country with that amount. The NYPD has 55,000 people. I am just curious as to what is going on up there.

Because America will defend it

Nice article Ace. I especially liked the quote:
"After reading this paper all I can say is "Welcome to Cuba" or worse."
I guess free health care doesn\'t pay off after all. Instead of increasing security and worrying about world issues the "socialist" government in Canada has nothing better to do than to ban satellite dishes. Incredible.

This is a protectionist law to prop up Canadian national networks which are just pale imitations of the US originals. I believe some US networks like MTV and ESPN are not permitted to be broadcast in Canada, and this is just one method they\'re using to make them unavailable to Canadian viewers. It\'s absurd because it\'s not necessary. Already, DirecTV and DishNetwork are not licensed be sold in Canada, so any canadian who wants to access their satellites must buy the receiver and dish on the grey market, and submit a fake US address to register with the service. That\'s already too inconvient for all but the most hardcore satellite freaks, so adding these draconian laws is just absurd.
Canada and Australia... LOL. Makes you do this:

Plenty.

damn hosers

Damn.....nothing to watch during long winter nights in Canada. Maybe I ought to open a video rental store there! :)

Australia?

They are just prohibiting the use of American satelite providers, and not out-right banning Satelite service in Canada, eh?! We may have only 2 major providers at the moment, but that doesn\'t limit hundreds of useless channels, and quality programming by the likes of the Fox network, and MTV to be paraded around our living rooms.

Ahhh a Canadian!!!! Hey why have you reduced your military from 90,000 to 55,000 over the past 10 years? I read that you can\'t even round up 800 men for your next rotation in Afghanistan. Thats pretty sad. Nothing against Canada - I love the beer and hockey. Its understandible if you want to blame it all on Quebec ;)

Haven\'t bothered to investigate as to why this happening, and quite frankly couldn\'t give a rats ass. Politically, Canada is the skinny nerd who lives next to the tough thug, and coincidentally get along like a charm. Provided, the nerd doesn\'t question the intentions of the thug, look him in the eye, or tell him like it is.
Yeah, it is sad.
;)
Nah, Quebec is cool; they have great beer, and are very open to randon sexual encounters.

No satellite?
Next the will be banning computer games!

That\'s right.
I heard that the Canadian government might be banning access to the internet as well, not sure exactly where I heard that, though it was most likely on Fox news.

Australia is nothing like Canada -
We are allowed satellite dishes.
Our Army/Airforce/Navy/SAS Force is three times the size of theirs, and we have a smaller population then them.
Canada=New Zealand in my opinion.

Oh for chissakes people. We do have Satellite T.V. in Canada.

Sorry, I probably shouldn\'t have mentioned Australia, because they don\'t have any direct connection to this particular issue. It\'s just that whenever you hear about some crazy legislative solution to curb people\'s harmless behavior, it seems to come out of Canada or Australia. Isn\'t it Australia that banned GTA3, and don\'t you have a host of bizarre laws Internet censorship laws down there?

Yeah, the whole country meets once a week in the PM\'s living room to watch "Hee Haw." Didn\'t you know that?

Well, GTA 3 didn\'t exactly get \'banned\' in Australia, it simply didn\'t fit the criteira for a MA15+ rating, and this is what Take Two wanted it rated at. In order for it not to be R18+, they had to edit out the cut scene where you have sex with the hooker and then kill her.
To be honest, I don\'t think its an integral part of the game anyway.
As for Internet laws, they are very similar to US laws.

Canada has the second largest land mass......

Damn liberals...Once Jean Chretien is out of office, then Canada will be a new country. Mark my words. He\'s been holding us back for too long now. Its great that he finally decided to resign(peer-pressure my folks ;)) but its not until next year unfortunately. Our new priminister should fix most of his idiotic problems.
Anyways, what\'s wrong with Canada? A lot less than most countries, probably even the US too. They did an enormous study and which countries were the best to live in and Canada was third) Norway 2, Sweden 1, USA 6). And uh, I watch the news at 6 every day and never heard of this satellite crap. Zavijava is right. I was down at my uncle\'s cottage this week-end watching some direct satellite.
Oh, and about our army, why waste money when we got the strongest nation watching our back? Its great for us that the US is so paranoid and spends a huge amount on their army every year. And where did you get these 55 000 numbers? Did you hear this on Fox or something? And you forget or don\'t want to admit it, we did a great job in Afghany. I recall our guys drastically helping you out in some seriously dangerous situations. We we\'re praised for our guys, don\'t forget it. Besides, it wasn\'t even our fight. The US has more than enough men to take down a couple of low-lifes in dipers.
Oh yeah, remember that one time where an american pilot bombed and KILLED three or four of our soldiers because he thought they were terrorists even though the americans knew we were out there? Yeah, praise america.
(this was not an attack on america in any way, just a defense for Canada. How could I hate america? Canada is exactly like it  )

Enough.
Let\'s straighten this out.
It\'s "The Gong Show", every second Sun. at the Governor General\'s pad.
Pfft, we bailed on the PM\'s place eons ago.
Silly americans, think they know everything.

Canada still has Expressvu, which is just like Direct TV. Goobers.

I live in America and I love Canada. And I\'m pretty sure I\'m not alone. If you guys haven\'t been there you\'re missing out on some hot women. There must be something in the water because they all had big assets.

Check out the southern half of the US if you want some home grown women ;)
