First off the little sticky is where your  ethernet connection goes  and the other for your phone line. If you were using the phone line for a 56K connect and now you have cable(is that what optimum online is?) you dont need the CD again but you will need a router if you are connected to a PC. The PC and the PS2 cannot use the same IP address. Just get a ethernet cable run it from the router or the modem if no PC  to the pS2 then using the same memory card where your online settings are go to network settings and the PS2 should see the connection and configure it for you it will ask you for a little info on the ISP you are using. You cant run a phone line from your cable modem.

You do not need a router to run your PS2 on the modem that is also hooked to your computer.  Simply disconnect the cat-5 cable from the computer, hook it into the playstation, and reset the Cable modem (you might not have a reset button, so just unplug it and then plug it back in.  Wait about a minute, and you are ready to play online.  DONT hook your phone line into the adapter if you also have your cable connection hooked up. Its not too hard.  I didnt even have to use the set up disk, I just set up my connection from socom, and now it works for every online game.

That will work too but it is a pain to have to go through that every time besides that will scramble our modems here through the provider we use from time to time. As long as he can get it to work.

Thats the way I do it.  Sooner or later, I will get a router.  Its a good firewall anyway.  but for now, I just have 2 cat-5 cables. One  from the PC and antoher from the Playstation.  i just keep the connecters by the modem and switch them out.  I takes a minute to reset, bu tit takes that long to turn the machine on anyway.
