Want to buy this..
Dreamcast plus stuff (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1383442141)
and this
Shenmue 2 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1382928345)
The system itself is VERY cheap ($25US) but the game is quite expensive ($75US), and seeing as I\'ve never ordered anything off the internet before I\'m somewhat trepidant towards making any bids etc. So I was wondering if anyone could help me out with words of wisdom or anything like that? How reliable is it? Is it worth the money? And I want Shenmue 1 dammit!!!
If anyone wants to help me out even more Go to the Sega Dreamcast section (http://pages.ebay.com.au/compgames-index.html)
-
Well, I order from the Internet quite often, and I buy and sell on ebay somewhat regularly, and I\'ve never had any trouble. But, both of the sellers on the auctions you linked to have 0 feedback ratings, which isn\'t necissarily bad, but it\'s something I shy away from since there\'s no established information about whether the seller is reliable or not.
:alien:
-
well, how about YOU... make the bids for me... just to find out ;)
-
dammit, dur.. $50 isn\'t the price, it\'s the current bid :D:D *slaps forehead*
I needs to do more research :)
-
Ok ok ok...
Booyah (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1382724950)
-
yeah, dont buy ANYTHING from a seller with a 0 rating, AND one that just recently changed thier name
wow, shenmue 2 goes for 75$
i might be prone to sell mine before the xbox version comes out
-
Bah, well now I don\'t know what to do..
:(
-
another thing, piracy was rampant on the dreamcast
games could be played without any sort of mod chip/boot disk
take this auction for example
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1382589562
a simple auction for shenmue 1 for the DC
i will also throw in a free copy of shenmue 2 email me for details
we all know what he means by "copy"
be carefull what you are bidding on. i only bid on auctions that are VERY specific on what they\'re selling and possess pictures of merchandise
-
dammit..
is http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1382724950 that specific enough?? The guy has pictures of pretty much everything there, all listed very proffessionally. If YOU were interested in it.. would you think it\'s safe enough to purchase?
I\'m new to all this dammit!!
That guy lives in my city too.. I should steal it from him...
-
its yer call
get MSR and TC out of the list of games
i\'d go for it
-
Well, I just bid on it..
funny, i had to really psyche myself into making the bid :D breathing heavily etc. :D
so far, $45 US (approximately) is what I would be paying :) Hope I don\'t get ripped off :( Meh, s\'only money.
Now onto Shenmue 1 - 2!!
-
I hope you get it for that price!
-
*Plays his genuine copy of Shenmue 2 for the 3rd time...*

Well, I was going to offer to bid for you, but since you\'ve bid already ;)
I do have to say, I\'ve been lightly contemplating getting a DC myself, just for a copy of Shenmue, and now with all these posts about it, I may just have to see if I can find a good cheap set myself.
Oh, and from personal experience, be careful with the bidding. Once you get started, it\'s VERY easy to addicted at first and spend tons of money before you realize it. :bounce:
:alien:
-
Good luck on the bid.. I don\'t think you\'ll be dissapointed. Well, if you have an excessively hard time finding games (and the right games) you might be a little.. but hey.. just import some games from the US and use a cheat device to bypass the territorial lockouts. :D
-
$150 dollars for Shenmue 2? Geeze, I only paid $50 for my brand new, mint copy.
-
thats 150 AU dont forget
-
AU or US or UK...
Shenmue 2 is worth all of it...
-
= / I dunno about all that. $150 AU for one game?.. and people complain about friviolity of Tekki for the Xbox? No game is worth that much unless you\'re a collector and absolutely must have it for your set. Bob may not even like Shenmue... it\'s a niche title for a reason ya know. It\'s brilliant.. but most people just don\'t care for it. I\'d say find another copy to bid on.. look at the EU auctions since I\'m sure you\'ll find it more readily and alot cheaper since there\'s more of them over there. The money you\'ll pay for shipping, even overnight, will be chump change compaired to $150..
I only payed 50 bucks for my copy too.. slightly used but looked mint in ALL respects. Probably just played once.. cept as a conversation piece.. and sold to buy an Army Men game or something. Oh well.. least I appreceate it and she has a decent home. :D
Good luck on the bid Bob.. hope you get it so we can finally let you into the Elitist Bastard club :)
-
well, i\'m not bidding on the $150 copy of Shenmue II. I ran out of money bidding on the DC..
*checks bank account..... I buy way too many games..
-
You probably don\'t buy as much as me though...
Within the last month, I\'ve bought...
CastleVania: HoD
Star Fox : Adventure\'s
Paid on RE:0
Shenmue 2
Traded for Shemue (import)
Sly Cooper
Sonic Adventure 2: Limited Edition 10Th Anniversary Pack (import)
GunGrave
Animal Crossing
And I\'m now in the process of bidding on Ebay for a white import Saturn with 10 games.
And don\'t even get me started on the month of August....
Basically, what I bring home for a pay check goes for car payment ($450 ) and the rest goes for food and games. I spent at least $350 on games a month, I know I have to.
-
Well, looks like you bought it. Hopefully nothing will be wrong- congrats..
/me is sad because his dreamcast is lost :(
-
LiC: I envy you!
Well, I can\'t say I do much different. Virtually everything I buy is electronic if not a game/console-related thing.
-
you guys should be the poster-children for corporate consumerism
-
mm is turning into his ex-girlfriend ;)
And yah, I got it. Everything works fine. The guy actually DELIVERED it right to my house. (He lives in the same city as me) and I just paid him cash. Everything was in their original boxes.
Pity the games (MSR, Toy Commander) suck... damn you mm!! ;)
Oh well, not long before my collection starts building.
One thing that surprised me was how bulky it was, it\'s a solidly built little unit, and I love the controller :)
-
Cool...MSR is a tad to demanding, and Toy Commander is fun...but not for everyone.
You have to be nice to it...mine won\'t play some of my games now. I\'ve kept them all in perfect condition too.
/me thinks I need to get another one.
-
It\'s a bit loud when loading, isn\'t it? Or is that just mine?
:)
-
yeah, the gdrom is hella loud
out of the games he listed, those were the two best
better buy some extra batteries for those VMU\'s
-
Or get a regular memory card which requires no batteries.
-
I just love the warning on the back of it
Caution:
Battery harmful or fatal if swallowed
Dunno why, made me laugh :)
-
Only in Australia...
Doesn\'t say that here...
-
Silly Aussies..
Anyways, just purchased Shenmue 1 through EBay..
Shenmue 2 is up for auction ($110 Aust... fair price) brand new, trustworthy seller..
but I can\'t bid on it :(:(:(
-
Why not? Either way, play Shenmue first, because it is a niche title and quite a few people do not enjoy it.
Here is some DC games I recommend.
- Typing of the Dead with Keyboard
- House of the Dead 2
- Soul Calibur
- Capcom Vs Snk
- Soul Calibur
- Resident Evil: Code Veronica
- Jet Set Radio
- Shenmue 2
- Virtual On
- Cannon Spike
- Gunbird 2
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
- Marvel Vs Capcom 2
- Street Fighter 3: Double Impact
-
You sure like Soul Calibur, don\'t you?
meh, seller won\'t trust anyone with a rating less than 5  :(
-
Ugh.. I can\'t believe you didn\'t go for that deal I showed you. It had pretty much all the games I\'m gonna list here and thensome. Not to mention including Shenmue into the package. Meh, oh well.
Yeah, the GD-Rom is loud.. but you ain\'t heard nothing yet. Try popin in PSO v.2. Good god.. I half expect to tip it over and watch metal shavings filter out half the time. The excessive grindage from that game is - I think - causing my Dreamcast to fade slowly too. Lately I\'ve had to take the screws out and leave em out. The GD-Rom lazer will set to a position and not move for anything. You have to periodically take the case off, lift the Lazer unit out, and turn the gears slightly by hand to get it calibrated again. Figures that my Sony PSX (known for crap quality) is still going strong after 8 years of serious beatings, while my Dreamcast (Known for the highest quality hardware) which I\'ve treated like a baby is going out after just one year.
Anyhow.. games I recommend:
PSO v.1 - It\'s still free, and one of my favorite games for the system. The community is kinda dead.. but it\'s nice practice for the NGC version. Don\'t bother with PSOv.2 this late in the game. (Note: If you buy it used, you\'ll have to call Sega and have them reset the seriel numbers since only 1 copy of PSO can work on any 1 Dreamcast system)
Quake III Arena - (Not online anymore)
Unreal Tournament - (Online, but nowhere as good as the PC version)
Capcom vs. SNK - Me Bouncy. :D I love that chick.
Jet Grind Radio - Skatin and Taggin, annoying Jpop music with a few great tunes tossed in.
Ecco The Dolphin - Dolphin Sim. Tough as hell. Not for everyone.
Crazy Taxi - Should be cheap, and good fun for a 10 min sprint here and there between better games.
Sonic Adventure I & II - What\'s a Sega console without Sonic?
Shenmue II - Much better than Shenmue I IMO, and has a much better combat system.
Alien Front Online - Same as Crazy Taxi. It\'s not online anymore, so there\'s not much point for extended use.
Soul Calibur - Still one of the best fighters available. My Taki Ow3nz joo!
House of the Dead 2 - GORGEOUS and fun, but can get annoying without a lightgun.
Seaman - It\'s erm.. unique. :D Virtual Pet, like Tamagachi on PMS.
Resident Evil: CV - Not much good if you own the PS2 version. Looks better tho.
Lest, those are the games I can recommend first hand from my collection.
Mediocre Games -
MSR - You\'ve got it. Nothing special.
Vigilante 8: 2nd Offence - A fun car combat game, but it\'s bascially a PSX game.
TrickStyle - Poor man\'s SSX on hoverboards.
AirForce Delta - Like Ace Combat but crappier
Kiss Psyco Circus - A middle of the road FPS. Crappy weps.
HeadHunter - MGS & RE lovechild... but born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrom. Not a bad game, but not great either.
Crap Games - Avoid like the plauge
Evolution - Launch title RPG like game.. it blows chunks.
Carrier - Some people like it.. I loath it. Everthing about it screams mediocrity.
ESPN Track & Feild - It\'s bad.. like.. Superman64 bad. :(
AeroWings 2 - Would have been nice.. it\'s a sim.. but it\'s bland, boring, and excessively difficult. It chews you out for being jus a few digrees & feet off of perfect durring your manuvers.. even if you pulled them off succesfully.
Also, you\'ll want to pick up a few peripherals. To top my list:
VGA Adaptor - This should be a requirement. Plus, PAL & NTSC regieons don\'t matter as long as the game is VGA compatable. It\'s a importers best friend... and easily my most valued peripheral.
LightGun - If you don\'t get any games which need it, it\'s not a big deal. Makes the shooters like HOTD2 much more enjoyable tho.
Mouse - Good for UT & Quake III, but has limited uses past that.
Keyboard - Only really necessary for online games where you wanna chat in real time to other players like in UT or more specifically in PSO. It should have been bundled with PSO.. it\'s THAT necessary.
Gameshark/Codebreaker - You\'ll need these if you plan on importing since they bypass the territorial lockout for you. I suggest CodeBreaker.
VMU\'s/Memcards - No explanation needed. If you get into PSO alot, you\'ll need the extra space for chars since you can only fit one char on per card.
Controllers - Everyone should own at LEAST 2 controllers for the system.
DualShock2 Adaptor - Allows you to use the PS2 gamepad on the Dreamcast. I love mine, and most have options to let you hook up either a PS/2 Keyboard, PS2 Gamepad, or a SegaSaturn Game pad.
Mircophone - You\'ll probly get one with Seaman or AFO if you get those games.
Also, as for extra batteries for the VMU.. you should be alright as long as you remember to unplug your controller when you\'re done. That will effectively double to triple their lifespan since the VMU draws power from the batteries even while the DC unit is off. (Why, I have no idea) You don\'t NEED batteries tho.. since even without them they still function as a memory card. You jus won\'t be able to play Minigames like Chao Adventure, Soul Calibur Minigames, or manage your memory/use the clock functions.
-
Good God Sony, I didn\'t need that much of a write up. But much appreciated :D
I\'m not sure how far my support with the system will go beyond the Shenmue games (and now Ikaruga!). Sonic Adventure is almost a definate tho.
Other possible games are PSO v. 1 (theres a V. 2 available on Ebay, why not V. 2?) Soul Calibur (even tho the sequal is coming out soon) Skies of Arcadia (if I get impatient and can\'t wait for the GCN version) and possibly others.
But there is a big month of games coming up here for my other consoles, not to mention the Shenmue titles that I should be getting soon.
eek! too many games!
-
Cause PSO v2 is pay to play.
v1 is free...
-
You people sure do regret it, now, don\'t you?
You had to wait how long before getting a copy of Shenmue 2?
Back when it was new, a seller on eBay had plenty of copies for $50 US.
I posted a link and only mm clicked on it.
-
indeed
my copy came straight from the UK
/me bows before ashford
:)
-
I got lucky and got mine from a trader shop for fifty bucks. Previously played, but near mint condition.. and by near.. I mean damned near.
Anyhow Bob, with PSO Ep 1 & 2 for the NGC comming up before too long, I don\'t think it\'s wise to jump into PSO v.2 since you\'re HL must be payed in 3 month blocks and it\'s not really worth it for now. Expecially since the scene is dead.. only the retards and cheaters are left outside of a handful of decent gamers. It\'s a shame that they\'re so fearful of the cheaters that they just lock themselves in rooms and use their Guild Cards to communicate. The chances of meeting new people who are actually worth playing with are pretty slim. Not to mention that the most populous blocks are the US and JP servers.. and with the PSO Ep 1 & 2 already being out in JP and soon to be the US.. those servers will soon be deserted. It\'s going to go from 400 gamers total down to 50 very quickly.
I suggest just getting it for the NGC, since that\'s a new market and a ton of the oldies will be back. Get it early tho, since cheating won\'t be prolifant for awhile.. hence you\'ll see alot of open games. It\'ll be just like the old days of PSO on DC with thousands of gamers and open rooms everywhere to just join into on a whim without fear of getting your character corrupted.
However, for the time till it gets to AU & EU territories.. PSO v.1 would make a great substitute and give you a chance to get familiar with the game so you can make fun of all the n00bs when you get the NGC version. :D
Also.. you\'re going to want to check into this.. but I\'m pretty sure PSO v.2 was free for EU territories (AU included)... but weither or not that\'s still the case I dunno. If it\'s free.. then I guess it\'d be worth the shot if you want something to tide you over.
All I\'m sayin tho.. is it\'s not worth the pay to play at this time. Jus wait for the NGC version if it is.

Hey Clip , what do u do for a living?! U sure spent a whole lot on games! Also how\'s Gungrave??? I loved Gunspike and even Expandable for DC so i dont mind short shooter games but is the gameplay any good???

*Sigh* You DO realize that talk of piracy is strictly forbidden on these forums correct? Would you like a link to the n00bie faq, since you obviously need a refresher course? Now, I won\'t recommend banning since the DC is considered a dead system and it\'s not like you\'re giving out links to the where\'s and how\'s of it. However, it\'s far too soon to even consider DC games as Roms (which AFAIK is accepted, but not endorsed by these forums). Give it a generation or two of hardware to pass if you MUST talk about it.
