I was watching Fox News last night and they reported on the Gulf War Syndrome and retired Colonel David H. Hackworth (a reporter for Newsweek and an author) was being interviewed. In it he stated that Gulf War Syndrome was due to the US blowing up Seran (sp?) gas deposits (they didn\'t know it was Seran gas when they destroyed it - they thought it was regular munitions) and the US using Uranium tipped weapons (anti tank rounds).
Apparently millions of particles of Uranium were blowing around the battlefield during the war and it only takes half a particle to kill someone. Even today there are still high levels of Uranium floating around out there. As Hackworth said in the interview, "This is the biggest incident of friendly fire in the history of the United States military." My question is if we go back to Iraq, how are we going to protect our troops from our own weapons????
-
Caused by US??? It seems that possibly it was caused by Iraq invading Kuwait.
Protecting our troops? I agree. It sucks. It\'s too bad this will have to be a landwar as well. So much cleaner blowing things up at random from the air.
I propose that in order to protect the troops we should mandate that they wear a cup.
-
The popular belief was that Saddam used the gas, but it is apparent he didn\'t. I was reffering to our own troops accidently blowing up munitions that were not properly identified.
The uranium tipped shells are another worry... I don\'t think anyone thought there would be trace amounts of uranium floating around after they were used. For all the hi tech stuff we have its amazing we don\'t test it enough to avoid mishaps like this. Ten thousand Gulf War vets have died from this and 10 times as many have symptoms....

half a particle?
i swear the news is designed for the ignorant anymore
-
A half a gram whatever - you get the point. I am not a scientist. Nor does knowing what a particle is or what the lethal dose is to the exact figure make me ignorant. With millions of particles floating around I don\'t think it matters. It is enough to kill you quite a few times.
-
And I always thought Gulf War Syndrome was caused by the genome soldier tests. heh, go figure.
;)

*watches as joke flies over the head of many people..

Sigh, sad but true. :( Hmm... then when my chair squeeks, it sounds like old atari game sound effects!

...
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Raises my hand in honor of one not having a clue of what the heck Ryu is talking about. I assume it\'s some geeky video game talk or something.

My sisters bloke spent ten years in Spec-Ops (UK). During the Gulf War he was given a cocktail of around ten different pills, never tested in that combination before to be taken every day, he buried his in the Saudi desert along with many others. The pills wouldn\'t have saved them from everything, they said they\'d rather die than have to survive a gas attack in total agony and pull through.
One of his squad members didn\'t bury his pills, two years after the gulf he saw this guy again and he had a patch of grey on his cheek about 1" across and spreading slowly. He went to the doctor and was told that for some reason his skin was dying and there was nothing they could do to stop it other than remove the entire section of his face.
-
So the pills caused his skin to die. Alrighty.
-
Suspected combination of powerful pills and depleted uranium rounds.
God knows what the hell they were taking, they weren\'t told.

Now this is pretty frightening IMO!:sconf:

The US at fault in this? "Thats UNPOSSIBLE!!"
Ryu..MGS?

I never said everything the US does is right, then again I should ask you if you ever agree with anything the US does? (while a Republican is in the White House) ;)

Ryu..MGS?
Bingo. :)

You feeling guilty of something? I didn\'t accuse you of saying anything. I mearly replied. SInce you are still going on assumptions, what makes you think I disagree with what republicans say and do just b/c I dislike bush?

Ryu.. the Gulf War Syndrome is a result of genetic manipulation to create better soldiers. This story is just another cover to futher confuse us. Trust no one.
Oh and yeah.. those Anti-Tank rounds are pretty lethal even years after they\'ve been fired due to the depleted Uranium. I hope they never go outta service tho.. it\'s the Ammo for the baddest gun ever mounted on an aircraft.. the Avenger Cannon. :D God I wish they\'d use A10\'s more.. they\'re awesome (if ugly) planes which make ~Perfect~ bombing and surgical strike aircraft. Super Durable and able to carry MASSIVE amounts of munitions to a target area.. and slow enough to deliver them precisely while identifying and hitting new targets before they get a chance to change positions.
With the ability to fly home even after a wing has been almost completely blown off.. it\'s the only aircraft in the US aresnal which I\'d feel safe flying. Well.. aside from the fact that on some missions you\'re flying so low (to avoid radar) that if you sneeze you could die. :D

Not saying anyone did it on purpose, it\'s just that war demands real-time testing as opposed to years of lab work and this was one that didn\'t work out perfectly imo (although pills to save from chemical attacks must be pretty damn strong).

If I enlist in the military and the war is still going on....oh crap
