Title: Good multiplayer games for the wife
Post by: alienmagic on September 28, 2002, 06:04:22 AM
I never really thought my wife would be too interested in playing any video games, but last night I was playing THPS3 and she was doing the "now that your not paying attention to me I\'m jealous and want your attention" thing. So, I asked her if she\'d want to play some games, and she said that actually she would sometime.

So, what would be some good 2 player PS2 games that would be fun for a couple to play together. I\'m more into action/adventure/horror/sports games, and she isn\'t into much of that. And I\'m certainly not a fan of dance games or anything like that. So, with that in mind, any good suggestions of some 2 player games that might be worth renting/buying?

Maybe a golf game perhaps, or even timesplitters.

Thanks for the suggestions, I\'ll try some of those.

And, even though ICO isn\'t a multiplayer game, I told her about it, and she sounds interested, so maybe I\'ll get her playing that and just help if she gets stuck.

I suggest Baldur\'s Gate Dark Alliance. The co-op is fun...although your wife WILL run around behind you stealing all the treasure. As of now, my GF has about 15,000 gold and I have about 3400....

If I do get a GC (which I have been considering), I\'ll definitely check Monkey Ball out. I haven\'t played it, but I\'ve heard nothing but good things.

It\'s not everyones cup of tea, believe me...

But the chickity should dig it.  It\'s cutesy, fun and addictive (at least the multiplayer, the single player is FRUSTRATING AS ****ING  ****!!!!)

You should also always consider Tekken 4, put her health up high and yours down low and go go go.  It\'s deep, but it\'s also easy for beginners.

Cookie & Cream is the perfect game for you to play with your wife.  It will show her how well you 2 work together and not how you can fill her carcas full of bullets.....  (That comes later)

I highly recommend SSX Tricky!! My girlfriend loves it to the point that she is the one suggesting to fire up the ps2 to play it rather than the other way around.

Oh yeah, Timesplitters with all the goofy characters. I would also suggest Halo if you had an Xbox. The co-op campaign is fun. As a matter of fact she got mad at me when I told her I beat the game on my own!

These damn developers need to make it second-nature to include features such as the co-op campaign in their FPS games. Are you listening Volition? I guess not...

It\'s interesting that you mention that. I just saw a little spot about this in the latest GamePro that I got in the mail today. It caught my eye because GamePro said "It\'s an under appreciated party gem that pulls off the 3D trick that Bomberman never could."

Well, I got her to try ICO last night. At first, she said, "I\'d like to try it, but I have some things to do, so I can\'t play very long right now. Maybe I\'ll just see what it\'s like for a couple of minutes."

A little over and hour later, I say "Hey, we have some things to do. Maybe you should stop for now." So, she\'s hooked.

Thanks for the suggestions, I\'m going to try some of them once she finishes ICO.

Klonoa 2 is by far my girlfriend\'s favorite Ps2 game. Followed closely by Crash: Wrath of Cortex. One of the few things that bother me about Ps2 is the lack of  platform games like those 2 i mentioned. That\'s about to change tough with tons of platformers being released this holiday season. Hopefully some of them will be simple enough she can get into them (she doesnt like games to get overly complicated)

The lack of simple platformers (her fav genre) is why she doesnt like the Ps2 too much. She prefers GBA (she loves 2d Mario games), PSONE (she loves Crash)and DC (sonic, rayman 2, magnetic neo, kao the kangaroo, puzzle fighter, etc  ) over Ps2.

Me and 3 friends at college played this game everytime we got together.  And what\'s more is there was always someone who had to rotate in b/c so many people wanted to play it.  And our g/f\'s would watch us play for an hour or so and laugh at us.  Basically all you do is throw stuff at each other but it\'s fun as hell.

I don\'t know if you can rent it anywhere but it\'s definitely worth buying.

Has she played Jak & Daxter yet?

Have you, for that matter?

Fun game :)

Yes she has, but since the game isn\'t on rails like Klonoa or Crash she got lost easily. She had the same problem with Banjo Kazzoie on N64. Games like Rayman 2, Crash, Konoa, Pandemonium, etc are better suited for her since the levels arent so huge. That and puzzle games are her thing.

juslight,
Im curious about the cookie and cream game i might buy it if i find it! It\'s not the first time i\'ve heard good things about the multiplayer.

I stopped by EB Gameworld on my lunch break today, and they had a copy of Cookie & Cream for $20, so I asked them to let me check it out for a few minutes. I thought the gameplay was pretty decent, and I know my wife would like it because of the rabbits and the visual style, so I picked it up (along with a copy of Jak and Daxter, which I haven\'t played yet). I\'m looking forward to playing this with her.

Well, we were a little busier than we thought, but we finally got a chance to play some C&C last night. It was a little different for me from the types of games I like the most, but she really enjoyed it a lot. So, the fact that we played together was enjoyable for me.

She has almost never played any video games before, so it took her awhile to get used to remember to push the buttons, and to get used to the analog stick. But, after the first couple of levels, she seemed to start picking it up pretty good.

We finished the first world completely. I thought the Golem boss was fun, although very easy. We moved on to Music world next, which is quite a bit harder than the first world. It took us about 10 tries to get through the first level there, mostly b/c my wife was having a hard time w/ Cream bouncing from drum to drum in a couple of places, and remembering to double jump sometimes, but she finally got the hang of it.

Overall, I\'m enjoying it because of the cooperative problem solving we have to do together, and she was having so much fun she didn\'t want to stop playing.

Thanks again for the suggestion :)

alienmagic,

Do yourself a favour and get hold of "Crash Team Racing" for PS1 (You can obviously play it on your PS2).  My Wife and myself play this game all the time...It also has four player split screen mode and will definitly contribute to the fun factor.  I mean, I have games like THPS3, MGS2, SH2, J&D, SSX, GTA3, etc. but for some reason this game just does the trick with my wife...she has actually converted other women to play this game with her...that can only be a good sign!!!...and the game should be very cheap to purchase now anyway!

I\'ll check into that too. Now that she\'s played ICO and started with C&C, she\'s started suggesting that we play, so I\'m all for getting more games for her, especially cheap ones :)

I\'m also leaning ever closer to getting a NGC for some of the multiplayer games mentioned, and just to be able to play RE 0 and Metriod.

Well, you are lucky...here in South Africa the XBOX has not even launched yet and the chances that we will ever see the light of day for the NGC is even less.  Anyway, the NGC is worth it for the RE series alone.
