I like Tekken 4 but could complete it pretty much within a rental period. I\'ve had a quick go on it and it just seems like a prettier TTT without the tagging. :(
That said though its still Tekken.
Is VF4 worth getting for a change?
-
Yes it is, the kumite mode is a very challenging experience and the moves will take a while to master.
-
*shakes head..*
Tekken 4 is a multiplayer gem. But horrible, horrible single player.
-
VF4 is 1000 times better. Get it in platinum and save the money for other game but Tekken 4.
-
Virtua Fighter 4. Many ppl get frustrated easily, but for christ\'s sakes use the darn practice mode it\'s not there for nuttin!
Also to get tons of new items, clothes and stuff you\'ll need to create a new character in the Data Files option and play with him/her in Kumite mode. I\'ve come across ppl who traded in the game without even knowing it was possible to do this. Read the darn booklet ppl!
Virtua Fighter 4 is the #10 best rated Ps2 videogame of all time by proffesional magazines/websites according to gamerankings.com with an average ratio of 92.3%. Tekken 4 is #65.
gamerankings.com -check it out, it\'s a pretty useful website!

I like them both. But I haven\'t tried Tekken on ultra-super-hard difficulty yet. Virtua Fighter 4\'s kumite mode will challenge you no matter how long you play that game.
VF4 is a game u should buy I think whether u buy Tekken or not.
-
Well that\'s what I meant Rob. Virtua Fighter 4 is a great single player game with great AI and so much depth.
But for multiplayer, it\'s just not as fun as Tekken. Weird :)
So it all depends on what you want.
I say get both... then you have an excuse when you lose in Virtua Fighter "I was holding back I forgot I had to hit Square to block ARRRRGH"
-
Actually, I just don\'t like the setup of the movements of moves in VF4. I have always enjoyed the setup of Tekken a lot more. Maybe you could also think of this when you decide which one you like. I like how the setup is a button for each arm and leg. Just makes sense to me.
-
You might want to try out a different button layout than the default one. I use the square as my punch button, X i use for blocking and the triangle button for kicks (the default setting in VF3 for DC). That one suited me best. I can hit any button combo with ease with that setup. The only trigger button i still need to use with that one is L2 for the P + G + k command.

I have not even got Tekken 4 yet. I am not sure if I will or not either. There is lots of other games coming out on all three systems. Anyone else following this trend?
-
No, I just buy all the games.
:eyemouth:
-
I do not have that much money heh. If I did I would buy a lot more than I do. Tekken and VF. Even if I hardly played them.
-
well id say tekken is only good as multi payer.... i dunno i felt let down by it. still very good, but between t1 and t2. then t2 and t3 there were big advances. i didnt see a big step.. that why i felt let down....
i like vf4 at first, but after a while i got bored, yeah is harder to learn, so in multi player, who ever owns it will be wayt better than the ones that dont.. i mean you can paly tekken a bit , though you not own it, but play it round you mates and get better quicker
-
I also think it is a tie. VF4 gets boring for a while, it is collecting dust in my room as of right now. Maybe its because I didnt really like it, wasnt good, or just bought too many new games. I played Tekken 4 at a friends, and from what I played it was kick ass. But my friend complained about the one player mode alot.
Both good choices...

Virtua Fighter 4 is all about timing. Setting up your big moves, and combos properly is the way to win in VF, u just dont win by using ur special moves ranmdomly like in so many fighters. Finding all these little patterns were u can strike, fool or counter ur oppent is what VF is all about.
U do something, ur oppenent thinks that\'s your offensive move but in reality what u were doing was positioning ur character in the correct position to deliver the big combo or counterstrike. The trick is to learn to lure ur oppenents into all this little patterns u can do.
Old school fighters were also filled with little patterns. For example in SF2 u threw a fireball at an opponent ur opponent then foolishly jumps at u and then u countered with a dragon punch. After this pattern, ur opponent would\'ve predicted that u will try to do this pattern again so a good idea was to fake a fireball motion or just press the weak punch button ocassionally to fool ur opponent and get them to jump at u, then u countered with a dragon punch.
Well, VF is all about finding all these little chain reactions. Making them think ur gonna do something when ur not. Being unpredictable and screwing with ur opponents mind is the way to go. Kinda like the good ol\' days at the arcade. The difference is that there are way more offensive/defensive options at ur disposal than Sf2 or any other previous fighter ever had, and that\'s why i like it so much :)

The problem with Tekken4 being such a boring single player game is the weak AI.I have to set it to the ultra hard mode to feel some competition while VF4 has a great AI for single player mode.
I wish I ll see a Tekken with a prober AI.Its alaways very predictable if u study it.Even in TTT.Try knocking ur opponent down in TTT and then get as near to him as possible and as fast as possible. He will always try to commit a throw when you are very near to him,So everytime u do that sidestep while he is getting up and commit a throw(throw to your oppnonents left side).Never loses.
-
I\'d have to recommend VF4. Like it\'s been said before, there\'s more depth in the single player. And, I have always had fun with VF4 in multiplayer, especially when there are 2 players who have become skilled at VF4 playing multiplayer. My little brother and an old roommate and I have had plenty of fun playing VF4 multiplayer.

Astro-
That\'s exactly what Tekken is about. Most people don\'t realize the depth and complexity of it until they play against a pro. You should watch me and my friends play :eyemouth:
-
I would like to play against u people.
-
i agree bob, tekken when played ny someone who knows how to play t is very deep
-
If you like fighting games get both!

yeah but there will be probs with pal gamers and there crappy 50 hz, and of course 56 sucks.. but cant wait for it to be done
-
Most Pal TVs can play 60hz.The few 50hz left will only play with 50hz online
-
Yah kopking, what are you worried about, you\'re not even allowed to play the game!
-
lol, im banned from tekken 3..... yeah i know most pal tv takes 60hz, but not everyone has scart... i think you need scart to play 60hz..... and 50hz is so much slower....
dunno i like tekken an all, infact a massive. or was... i dunno.. it just dont do it for me no more, maybe when i move out and have a room mate to play against... cos my bro moved out... so dont get to play it 2p all the time
-
I dont have scart but I play Tekken4 at 60hz
-
are u from uk though???
-
Nope. But not from US.What does it matter where u are from?
In uk u need a scart in order to play in 60hz?
-
i cant remeber, but when i play imported games on my old ps1, i had to have a scart.... ill have to look into it, but lots of peep dont have 60hz on there tvs...
-
Your PS1 was chipped or you could play imported games with the scart only??
-
my ps1 was yes, and when i wanted to play imported games.. i had to use a scart lead.. uckily i always used one
-
Personally I never had any problems wth my chipped Pal PS1 or with my PS2 playing Tekken4 at 60hz on my tv.I use the normal red, white, yellow cable.
-
that is kinda scart, not full..... atleast the european ones.. believe me unicron if you from europe get a scart, much better
-
I am from Europe but my Tv doesnt support a scart.Unfortunately.:(
