Title: PS2: blue disc problems?
Post by: DantesMistress on October 10, 2002, 10:56:00 PM
I bought Midnight Club Racing and the disk makes these loud squeaking noises and I guess it cannot be read...it wont play and I get \'disk error\'...the disc is blue...

I heard there are 2 versions of the PS2 console and that mine might be the older one and this might be why the game wont play for me...can this be true??? That would really piss me off. Sony should let us know if games wont play on the console we have.

Mine will only play blue disks in vertical position. If yours in horizontal, try standing it vertically instead.

Mine used to play everything well but now everything in CD-ROM format seems to make a strange noice and need more time to be read.

Probably needs to be cleaned.Get a DVD cleaning disc,if that doesn\'t work head on over to http://www.gamefaqs.com in the PS2 hardware section and follow the walkthrough for manualy cleaning the lens.There\'s only 8 screws to remove, and I\'ve done it three times so I can tell you it\'s VERY easy.Just did it last night in fact.

Of course you don\'t want to do this if your PS2 is still under warranty.Opening the PS2 in any way voids your warranty. But it sounds like you\'ve had yours for awhile so I doubt that\'s the case.

should have one year of free repairs, longer if you pay for it.I\'ve had my PS2 for a long time,it\'s been dropped off tables and so full of dust you can only just see it and it works fine.So they can\'t all be bad.

sounds like you need to have the lens adjusted.  Basically lasers tend to lose some power after it is used for a while, and there\'s a mechanism inside the ps2 that is used to adjust it.  There\'s a bunch of faqs on how to this out there, but if you\'ve got money, i\'d say take it to somewhere that\'d actually know what they\'re doing.  I\'ve personally adjusted my lens a while back, and its working fine.  Mine by the way is the first gen JAP model.
