I was in in South East Asia on vacation last year in the Philippines. It was a beautiful island resort. I can\'t fathom how hard it would be to go on vacation and then have to experience something so devestating.

Australia is really trying to come to terms with the loss. I think Australians have now fully realised the catasrouphic events of SEP 11 for themselves. Its the most disgusting thing I think I have ever seen

Australia has 22 confirmed dead, with 160+ missing, feared dead.

My dad was in Thailand when it happened. It was pretty scary.

I jus got outta work and this is the first I heard of it... any details.. what happened? Do they know if this is connected to 9/11 at all or is that all just speculation by the media?

All I can say for now is that the families of those who lost loved ones have my condolences, and I hope they can find peace.. or at least justice.. as quickly as possible.

*Awaiting further details*

Aparently there are quiet a few members of Al Quieda down there and from what I read earlier it is confirmed to be affiliated with them.

And Racer, just thing, you multiply this by about 20 times and you will have what them fizuckers did to Our country.

And if you throw in costs of rebuilding, shit I don\'t even want to go there.  I\'m just talking about lives here.

I wasn\'t saying "Ours was worse than yours"

I was just saying look at how tragic ours was to those of you who insist we are idiots for wanting to fight back.

Well, ever since this happened here, there have been no more anti war protests going on around here.

Its safe to say Australia is backing Bush 101%.

It\'s a resort area way far away from here, but it\'s right near Australia.

Minimal gov\'t policing of anything aparently and it has become a haven for terrorists to migrate too.

Very sad indeed.  I need to go dig a hole and just go under for a couple years.

CANBERRA, Australia (CNN) -- Australian Prime Minister John Howard has arrived in Bali to attend a memorial service for the victims of last weekend\'s terror attack and to check the process of identifying the dead.

Massive security is surrounding the leader\'s visit, amid warnings by the Australian government not to visit Bali, citing what it calls "disturbing" new intelligence that terrorists may still be targeting Australians.

Amid the heightened alert, the Australian leader will not travel on to Jakarta or meet with Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri.

Howard made his decision to go to Bali Thursday morning amid increasing anger from Australians over the sensitive issue of repatriating the remains of loved ones.

Some Australians in Bali have criticized the administration of the identification process, accusing Indonesian and Australian authorities of incompetence and calling on the prime minister to intervene.

The majority of those approximately 200 people killed in the blasts were Australian tourists, but more than 100 bodies have yet to be identified and confirmed dead.

Speaking at a media conference just before he departed, Howard said the trip would give him a chance to "assess the situation on the ground".

However, he defended the efforts of Australian consular staff saying they were doing the best possible job in extremely stressful circumstances.

"I think they\'re doing a fantastic job in an incredibly challenging and difficult situation but it\'s important that I have the opportunity of having a look at things and it is also important that I be there at this service," Howard said. (Lengthy wait)

"By my presence I hope in a small way, express the feelings of the rest of the Australian community towards those people who have suffered and lost so much."

Howard will be back in Australia for the official "day of mourning" being held on Sunday.

He earlier asked Australians to observe a minute\'s silence at 12 noon Australian Eastern Standard Time (0200 GMT) and to wear a sprig of the native wattle flower as a personal gesture of remembrance.

"Church leaders of all denominations and faiths are encouraged to include a reference to the Bali atrocity in their services," Howard said.

"Let us all in our different ways find time on Sunday in different communities in different parts of our nation to mourn the abrupt and brutal deaths of so many and reflect on our own lives," the prime minister said in a statement Thursday.

The prime minister and his wife will attend a morning service at St Paul\'s Anglican Church in Canberra.

A formal memorial service, involving all state premiers and governors general will also be held, possibly later this month.

I saw on Cnn that Bush says he believes Al-Qaeda (typo?) is responisble for this and that there is more planned attacks in the very near future for other countries and America. Now, I don\'t take much into heart what Bush has to say, due to the fact that I think he is a complete moron who should be knocked upside the head, but if he is right, then it has to be said that this year and the next couple years will go down as the years that reflected the most amazing amounts of global terrorism. And then take into the fact that we may very well be goin\' to war with Iraq and you have a combination of mass problems.

I get that feeling also. You take the war on terrorism, global terrorist attacks and now Bush complaining that North Korea is also armed and we have a mass war brewing.

Hopefully in 2004, Bush will be out of office and some other moron(lessar of two evils) is in office attempting to make things right.

Bush has done nothing that any other good president wouldn\'t have done.  You can like who you\'d like, but I don\'t see how things could have been done any differently after 9/11.

Terrorism is disgusting.  These people have no respect for human life.  They think they are showing the world something by blowing shit up and it\'s just stupid.  How do you compete with that and stay within human rights?

It\'s impossible.

We will never rid the world of terrorism until the whole world sees how bad terrorism is.  For some reason all the little pussy countries don\'t want to do their part in helping sniff out terrorist oragnizations.  Eventually countries will pull the hair out of their asses and get in the game and snuff off terrorism from the inside.  Arrest these people.  Keep them from talking to each other.  Keep them from bombing.

US and England can\'t do this shit alone.  If they had all the countries together in this fight then we wouldn\'t need war.  We could share info and arrest these people and/or militarily strike these small camps of terrorists.

But when you have countries like Iraq where they are locked into abiding by the governing of a terrorist you are in a bit of a pickle.

Yeah, I really feel for the person being executed.

If you ask me that person gave up his/her human rights when they decided to take it into their own hands to kill someone else.

We could turn this into a whole other debate on the very fact that people are being found innocent due to new DNA processing. And who gives the goverment the right to kill people? Either way - let\'s not waste mine or your time debating that (in this thread). And let\'s not ruin a thread dedicated to the innocent loss of two hundred people.  How about we just agree to disagree?

Vapour, this goes back to Bible times, the very foundation that countries like America, England and Australia are based upon.

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

I am probably the only Christian who agree\'s with the death penality. On this earth, if you are found guilty of a horrific crime under law, then I believe that your time on earth is up. Whether you make your peace with God or not I still believe that there should be consequences for your actions, at least on earth anyway.

The amazing thing about this whole death penatly bullshit - is the very fact that innocent people are put to death.  Yet, you all feel comfortable supporting the death penatly. Go figure.

Innocent people dying - bad

People that killed the Innocent being excecuted - well, it seems to work in Texas :roll: (I wonder if that works...)

Anyway, yeah, how about we NOT turn this into a 40 page religion debate, eh? :)

Here is a poem I found on an Australian website, just thought I would post it here for you to read.

You hurt us bombing Bali, but we can take the pain,
But if you think you\'ll beat us you can think a-bloody-gain.
We battled at Gallipoli and we fought the bloody hun;
Of all the arseholes we\'ve had to face, you\'re just another one.
You won\'t get your hands dirty, you won\'t fire a gun;
Whenever danger threatens, you just pack your gear and run.

You brainwash innocent children to do you evil deeds,
Careful not to let them know just where it really leads.
You get them to believe all your bigotry and lying,
Until they cannot see that there\'s no glory in their dying.

Now we\'d like to pose a question, answer if you can;
Where does your holy book tell you to kill your fellow man?

Now listen hard and listen well, we\'re giving you the word,
You\'re never gonna beat us you spineless bloody turd.
You\'d never face us personally, you haven\'t got the guts,
You know that if you ever did, we\'d have your bloody nuts.

Our spirit is unbroken, and our heads are still unbowed;
We sure as hell aren\'t scared of you and your gutless crowd.
So get your act together - you\'ll never win because
What you\'re really up against is the spirit that is OZ.
