hey looking a bit worried hey Mr Eriksson ?

thanks to the English "national" team for giving me a right good laugh last night.

Quote
SVEN ON WRONG TRACK
By Neal Collins

"I think we played very well."

"For long periods, we played good football."

"It was a good performance."

No, not Wales boss Mark Hughes after a sensational win over Italy.

These are the statements which tumbled from the once glib lips of slumping Swede Sven Goran Eriksson.

Yes, while Turkey were whipping Liechtenstein at the top of the group, England were struggling to stay on terms with mighty Macedonia at Southampton\'s St Mary\'s Stadium.

Blimey, it took the Saints months to get used to their new ground, so to all those people who say it\'s great to take England around the country, I say "Rubbish".

With a record of just one win in our last six home games, England desperately need a home, an intimidating bowl like Wembley once was.

But to blame that 2-2 draw on the lack of a true footballing home would be wrong.

England were awful. Sven must have been watching another game.

They are now five points adrift of Turkey and the threat of a play-off looms. Mind you with Macedonia away still to come, perhaps even a play-off for a aplce at Portugal\'s 2004 European Championship might be a step too far.

Obviously David Seaman will be the whipping boy this morning. Deservedly so. After the Ronaldinho error in the World Cup, the first goal, direct from a corner, was the death knell for the 39-year-old\'s international lifepsan. Thanks Safe Hands, and good night.

But what of Michael Owen, 18 years younger but showing the same alrming loss of touch and form? Did he have a decent touch all game, apart from the "off side" goal?

And whose idea was it to discard Gareth Southgate, the Premiership\'s most consistent defender, for a pairing of the dodgy Jonathan Woodgate and the lumbering Sol Campbell?

The same guy who decided to drop Joe Cole to the Under 21s I guess.

I was at Reading on Tuesday night for England\'s 3-1 win over Macedonia\'s Under 21s. The visitors time wasted just like their seniors, spoilt the play and generally behaved badly.

But, on a very ordinary night, Cole provided the spark. A spark England\'s senior team desperately needed.

For those who slagged off England after the 2-1 win in Slovakia, I say: That was a miraculous result we barely deserved. Wednesday night was an appalling result we fully deserved.

Inspirational skipper David Beckham admitted; "I don\'t think we played like we can do. We didn\'t push forward and create enough in the second half." And he added: "We\'re pretty low in the dressing room. Mind you, we\'d have probably got some stick even if we\'d won."

Not from this angle you wouldn\'t.

Just as the win in Slovakia deserved praise despite a poor performance, so a draw against Macedonia, ranked 80 places below England on the FIFA rankings, deserves harsh words.

Like Ireland\'s Mick McCarthy, Sven is starting to look out of his depth. Joe Cole and Steve McManaman can add the magic he\'s missing. But who will provide the harsh words in the dressing room when they\'re needed? Nancy?

It was just one of those games, England could have very easily scored five. The first goal, well no, and I do mean NO keeper in the world would have saved the first. The second was admittedly due to a defending error. There was not one point in the game when I thought they were going to lose. The amount of chances they created in the dying minutes was mind boggling. How none of them went in is just amazing.

On a side note, I read that the Macedonian coach accused the England players of bad sportsmanship for not shaking the macedonian players hands.

Ha....... That\'s the kettle calling the pot black isn\'t it? How much of the game did they kill due to unecessary usage of the stretcher? The only reason England refused to shake hands, is because of "them" stooping to such low tactics every time England looked like they might be getting on top of things.

2 things that should have never been invented.

1. The stretcher.
2. Macedonia.

PS. Shakira has let herself go a bit hasn\'t (S)he?
:D :D :D

For those of you who didn\'t see the game last night, the above comment probably went dtraight over your head.

edit//

England will still wipe the floor with Scotland any day of the week ;). And judging by results elsewhere, so will Wales.

I sure am glad I can come to the OT and get a new thread daily about a sport that only about 3 people care about...

ooseven, can you not make one thread and combine all these?

Which, as a sport, has a higher following, higher viewing figures and is more lucrative on a global scale? In short, which has the highest fanbase world wide?

Association football, or US football?

I think association football wins hands down. It always has, and it always will.

Simple as that.

Shhhhhhhhhh

careful Jaye or us Footy fans could have a FLAME war with the American "FOOTBALL" fans around here.

it won\'t be a prity sight

and yeah i could of merged them but seeing that its the WORLD\'s Biggest sport (played and watched by more people world wide than American Foot ball is).

ok Euro 2004 an\'t as big as the world Cup but is still very important to use Europeans.

no offence Vid Sugar ;) :wedge:

Probably is a sport that is recognized qorld wide far more than hockey, Football, and baseball.

I\'m not going to dispute that.

But look at the football thread up top.

Look at the 3+ soccer threads and add up those posts.

Here on this board there is no comparison.

I\'m just saying you could combine all those threads into one.

I totally agree,  Nothing more than getting all backed up.  That\'s what Coyote F\'s are for in college.  You just have to dump every once a while or your eyes will turn yellow.
