Post by: Ryu on October 20, 2002, 01:08:27 AM
It was time for a new thread to be started for this discussion.  I do the same thing for the latin threads in the main forum so this is no different and besides that, no one wants to read 22 pages of stuff about the NFL.  Start your new discussions and when it breaks another few hundred replies, i\'ll start up yet another one again.  Anyways, continue the discussion\\debate or whatever... umm... go niners!  :)

*smacks forehead*

Peter Boulware - Linebacker for the Ravens, played for the Florida State Seminoles from 1990 to 1993, and won a National Title.

Michael Boulware - Senior for the Florida State Seminoles, the younger brother of Peter Boulware.

There ya go. Anyway, Chiefs play the Broncos in about 3 hours, and I\'m expecting the Chiefs secondary to be torched, but for the offense to put up a shitload of points :)

See Yuz.

Panthers vs. Falcons - Vick should be back in the lineup. With or without Peete the Falcons should take this.

Jaguars vs. Ravens - Ray Lewis out Taylor is gonna take it to the D all day.

Bears vs. Lions - >>UPSET OF THE WEEK<
Broncos vs. Cheifs - Easy

Bills vs. Dolphins - Dolphin secondary is nice. Dolphin D-line is nice. Bledsoe might have one of his worst games of the season. Look for a lot of hurried passes. On another note, Chris Carter on the Dolphins!? This dude wants a ring bad. The fins might not be the best team for that though.

49ers vs. Saints - Depends on what Saints team shows up. They have a tendency to play to the level of their competition. I\'ll give em the home field advantage.

Vikings vs. Jets - They have had a bye week to prepare for the inept Vikes. A week for Pennington to get more comfortable in the starting role and a week to try to correct some problems.

Seahawks vs. Rams - Just give Marshall the damn ball. Give Faulk a nice amount of snaps and they should beat the hawks easy.

Chargers vs. Raiders - I like the Bolts this week. I think they can pull off a win in Oakland.

Texans vs Browns - Texans have a decent team to build off of for next season. Browns take this. Maybe my boy Green can pull out a 100 yarder.

Buccaneers vs. Eagles - The Bucs have a strong defense and a capable offense(when it counts). I think they should have no problem beating the Eagles.

Cowboys vs. Cardinals - *WHO CARES* This is the "Who cares" game of the week. I like Plummer and Boston against this Cowboys Defense, however Boston isn\'t at 100%. I think the Cowboys can take em.

Redskins vs Packers - *sigh*

Colts vs. Steelers - The Colts are quietly holding their own this season. They are also showing that they can win with defense as well as offense. The Steelers have barely shown that they can win.

The Jets have no record because they have no manager. The team is open. I think someone just recently took them over, I\'m not sure about that though. That is more Hurricanes department.

Yea, im a broncos fan..im still ticked off about the miami game...the ball fricken went right through moblys hands. Now they gotta hope the chargers go downhill in the end of the season like last year.(which i dont think will happen). As long as the chargers get 2 losses and the broncos keep 2 losses then the broncos will be ahead since broncs beat the chargers earlier in the year.

Cloud should be banned from the league and his players distributed via online-draft. Picks are determined by present standings, last place = 1st pick, etc.

I could use a consistent RB.

At first I was joking but now I\'m semi-serious. Its not fair he shows up one week and just ditches his team while the people that actually do make an effort and try to improve their team get burned.

Title: ~Official NFL 2002-2003 Thread~ (2)
Post by: shockwaves on October 22, 2002, 05:37:34 PM
No way we should split up his team.  First of all, not everyone plays him again, so those who do would get a free game on those who don\'t.  Plus who cares if he doesn\'t check much.  He has checked some, he rejected trades of mine before.  He also got himself a good enough team to not have to check all the time.  If he forgets about byes, so what?  You complain that he is doing something wrong when you still lose, when really you are doing something wrong, since you can\'t beat someone who has fewer players in.  Splitting the players up would be very unbalanced.  People like luckee admit to not ever checking, and Gohan can\'t even get in, but you don\'t mention their teams.  If Cloud weren\'t winning, you wouldn\'t care.  It\'s all just that you can\'t handle being beaten when you are putting in effort and he doesn\'t need to.  Let his team be.  Besides, if we do that draft, and luckee gets Holmes, who\'s to say he doesn\'t just go on to do the same exact thing Cloud has been doing?
Title: ~Official NFL 2002-2003 Thread~ (2)
Post by: theomen on October 22, 2002, 06:13:16 PM
first of all, yes I feel a bit burned that he is very quiet and is winning....BUT, he has been active, check the coach list to verify that.  Also, there is no way for me to disban his team, even if I wanted to.

This is just a reminder for everyone, this leaue is a keeper league, so for those of you who have no chance at the playoffs, don\'t give away your players, because you\'ll have the top picks next season.

And Shock, what I am saying is that it\'s very easy to get the guys back you picked in later rounds next year because there is more maneuverability.  It\'s the guys in the 1st 2 rounds that are virtually impossible to get a second time.  At least not the top tear guys anyway.

Esera Tuaolo, who played nine years in the NFL as a defensive lineman, will reveal he is gay in an interview to be shown Tuesday on HBO\'s "Real Sports" and in the upcoming issue of ESPN The Magazine.

Tuaolo
Tuaolo, who played for five NFL teams, said a major reason for his early retirement in 1999 was the difficulty and frustration that came with keeping his sexual orientation a secret.

"They didn\'t know who Esera Tuaolo is," he said in the interview with HBO. "What they saw was an actor."

Tuaolo, 34, said players routinely told gay jokes in the locker room.

"They made me go further and further into depression, further and further into shame," he said.

In a transcript and tape of the HBO show obtained by The New York Post, Tuaolo discusses the depth of his depression, saying it reached a point to where he thought about suicide.

"When I\'m driving like over a 100 (mph), maybe I could just like turn that wheel, just turn that wheel so I could just end it all," Tuaolo said in the interview.

Tuaolo, a native of Hawaii, played at Oregon State before being drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1991 (35th pick overall). He also played for the Panthers, Vikings and Jaguars, and for the Falcons, the team he was with in Super Bowl XXXIII.

The "Real Sports" segment also features ESPN\'s Sterling Sharpe, a former teammate of Tuaolo\'s with the Packers.

When Sharpe was asked what would have happened if Tuaolo came out while he was still playing in the NFL, Sharpe said: "He would have been eaten alive and he would have been hated for it."

You do remember that "historically" Philly has not had a very good team in the past.

Don\'t try and bring me down biatch.  McNabb is going to get me 2 touchdowns and hopefully at least one of them rushing.

Well, he can\'t throw. He\'s got approximately 20 yards passing so far. If he doesn\'t get into the end zone, and the Giants can hold, it looks good for me. Besides, I haven\'t seen a QB get 15 points on yards alone in a LONG time, but knowing my luck, who knows.

Yes, there are...I have an idea for next year, though, but I don\'t know if you\'ve already thought of it.

I don\'t know if Theomen\'s goona make it a Keeper League setup, but I think that we should basically keep the same teams (have new people who want in replace the people who were inactive or just plain didn\'t care), then, the people who absolutely sucked this year get 1st pick, 9th place with 2nd, 8th place with 3rd, etc. Just like a real football draft, the worst teams get the first pick as to who they want.

The Bottom 4 spots in the draft would be determined by how they finish in the playoffs, and not how they finished in the Regular Season. Thus, Cloud could still end up with, say, the 7th pick :-P

Just an idea, and yes, I\'m thinking ahead. Maybe I won\'t be as snakebit next year :(

See Yuz.

I like the idea as long as you get to keep even your top 2 rounds as well.  The whole bottom rounds only thing was the only thing I thought was dumb before.  Some negotiating in the off season could be done and it could be pretty fun.

Yeah, I agree.  Your team is often built around your top picks, and if you lose them, it could destroy what you\'ve been working for.  Offseason trades would be cool to.

We should really have a forum just for this league, for the offseason and all :)

I\'m bored right now, so I\'m gonna post my projections for this week in the Fantasy league;
(winners in bold)

Omen\'s A$$ Badgers
THE MOTHER ****ERS -
This will be a game of the week, two of the 5 top teams fighting for a playoff spot.  Both with 6-2 records, deffinetly a big game!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Osmosis Kittens!
Cloud345 -
A bit of an upset pick, but I think with Holmes on the bench Cloud will stumble and be delt his second loss this season.  This is also a game of the week, if Shox looses he will be at the bottom of the playoff hunt....however if he wins, then it will bring Cloud down to earth, where he will have to fight for a playoff spot along with the other 5 teams.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vapor Snake\'s Penis
Boston Massacre -
Vapor should be able to handle this one pretty easily, and will have his first win streak of the season!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nebraska Cornhuskers
SouthernPimps -
Luckee has been on a 7 game loosing streak, and I don\'t see him turning that around against James.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

49Raiders
Vid\'s Team Cocky -
Vid is playing the second worst team in the league, this should be a cake walk for him.

My FF pics.....

Team Cocky vs 49Raiders:
The Cocky will ride all over 49Raiders without even breaking a sweat.

A$$ Badgers vs Mother F\'ers:
Mother F\'ers will have this one.  I know Omen doesn\'t want to hear it, but Luke has been the most consistent GM and will roll you like a dewbie.

Kittens vs. Cloud
Priest Holmes is out and Booger McFarland is injured on the Bucs Defense.  This may cut down on the INTs that the bucs have been giving him.  I think Cloud may be with the rest of the pack after this week.  Kittens all the way.

Vapor vs. Boston
Vapor is on a roll.  He actually has a 1 game win streak.  Longest all year.  I see him doubling his streak to a whopping 2 games.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Pimps
Luckee has no chance in hell of winning another game.

And that\'s all she wrote.

I never usually Post here, but since this looks like the place to do it... F*@& the Colts!!!!  They show week in and week out they have the talent to do it, they show that if in a desperate comeback situation they can complete and score quickly and often...Their main problem, they jack around too long before they get it through their heads that they better score something soon.

Then you have idiots who can\'t  count to three "hut\'s" before jumping, etc... How many offsides Tarik Glenn??? what 7 this season...

To top it all off, they have a defense that can do everything but stop the run.  Big pass plays, no problem, run plays... and screens, hell no!!!

Okay, it has been three weeks in the works and I had to get it off my chest.

Back to supporting the Colts again next week.

Brad

Scramblers are the way of the future, their ability to scramble provides a play action every play, holding the LB\'s at bay while they pick the field apart....reminds me of Steve Young, oh how I miss him, ugh anyways....  I\'d take a scrambler over a pocket passer any day.

Aww..... is our little clowd mad because the Niners completely own the NFC West?

Two Kurt Warner\'s don\'t even equal one Jeff Garcia if you ask me. Garcia is a clutch guy, got quick feet, can throw with pinpoint accuracy on the run, and take big hits.

Warner can\'t escape nagging injuries.

I\'m only willing to trade Favre, not Bledsoe. And it has to be for a TOP (And I mean, a TOP) WR or RB. I\'m talking like a top 3 guy, because Favre is a top 3 QB.

Yes, you did :p

And Vapor, with that attitude, you will never get a trade.  Favre is a great QB, but fantasy wise, he is not one of the top 3, for a combination of different reasons.  Also, anyone who thinks QBs are worth as much as RBs and such in a league like this is a moron :p  You don\'t need both, and unless you want both for keeper reasons, you should trade.  I\'m not saying you should accept some average player, but I would never trade a top 7 RB (Faulk, Holmes, Williams, Tomlinson, McAllister, Alexander, Green, or something like that), or a top 7 WR (Harrison, Owens, Horn, Moulds, Price, Booker, Smith, etc.) for him.  Where you got top 3 QB, I also don\'t know.  He was like 5 or so last year I think, and he is 10th so far this year.  You are asking way too much though, and will never help your team, or make a deal, this way.

Now for FFL news, I\'m back in the number 3 spot, and the 4 playoff spots are filled with 7-2 teams.  It\'s gonna be a race to the end, all of the playoff teams have games against eachother over the next weeks, so it\'s gonna come down to the wire!

Young
Elway
Favre
Garcia
Tarkington

here are some pocket passers;
Bledsoe
Marino
Warner
Aikman

So what he had a 3 rough games at the start of the season.  If you watched all the Rams games like I did you would know that the only game he really didnt do good in was the Tampa Bay game.

The only time I\'ve seen Warner play live was in the Arena League.  There\'s a difference though.  Phil Jackson is a great coach.  You can see that, because before he took over the Lakers, they had no direction, and weren\'t getting anywhere.  Since he took them over, they\'ve done nothing but win titles.  There is that difference between him and anyone else.  This year, Warner started the first couple of games, and the Rams offense looked awful.  They lost every game he started.  Now you have a third string QB who is easily out performing him in every part of the game, and is leading the team to victory after victory.  The contrast here not only suggests that Warner is not anything out of the ordinary, but that he isn\'t that good at all.  The same happened two years ago with Trent Green.  Trent stepped in, and he actually had better numbers than Warner.

And you know why Warner is so accurate?  Because the WRs on that team are so fast, and so talented, that they are wide open more than WRs on any other team.  That means the completion percentage should be highers, and would be with any QB you put in there.

And Clowd, I watched the Giants game that Warner was in.  He looked horrible.

I won\'t pretend I\'m a football expert ... but from what I\'ve seen on sports center, sportsrise ect ect, is that the Rams CURRENT QB isn\'t doing much of anything; Marshall Faulk has taken over.  The way it always should have been IMO.  So that doesn\'t really mean that Kurt Warner "isn\'t that good", just that they relyed on him too heavily.

I\'m guessing you missed the \'99 NFL season?  The Rams were going nowhere with Trent Green.  But soon as Warner took over the Rams started winning games and went to the superbowl.  Warner also led what some consider the best offense in the history of the NFL.

Defending Clowd - fun.

He\'s exactly right, Trent Green wasn\'t going to take them to the Super Bowl. The Right place at the right time? Somebody has to throw that football, and as of right now, Kurt Warner is officially the highest QB Rated QB of all time.

Trent Green wasn\'t going to throw that football, that\'s for damn sure. Warner had the weapons, sure, but so have other teams. Hell, look at the Vikings from the year before. Great offensive weapons, yet still lost in the NFC Title game at home to the Falcons.

Warner wasn\'t the reason that the Rams weren\'t going anywhere, Martz was. Ignorance and thickheadedness did Warner in at the begining of the year, and finally Martz is listening to his critics, and playing Faulk a lot more. Lo and behold, 3 straight wins, and they look like the Rams again.

Warner IS a great pocket passer, his accracy is uncanny in the National Football League. Uncanny.

Pfft, like you know anything about football ;)

Warner was in the right place at that right time, and until he proves that he can play the same way with fewer weapons, I will continue to believe that.  The Vikings team you referred to had a good offense, but even they were nothing compared to what the Rams have had.  The Rams have the best RB in the game, one of the best (if not the best) WR duos in the league, and quite a nice offensive line to go along with that.

And what does Martz have to do with Warner playing bad?  The reason Martz was an idiot was because he went to Warner too often, and Warner couldn\'t handle it.  The year started with the Rams once again throwing as much as they could, and despite great WRs, and a great pass catching RB, that did not work.  Why?  Because Warner can\'t carry a team that way as a QB.  You think they would have still lost those games, throwing that much, if they had Favre in there?  Not a chance.

When you make yourself one-dementional, you\'re not going to win 90% of the time. Favre didn\'t start winning divisions and his title until he got Dorsey Levens up to full speed. Not to toot my own horn, but without Ahman Green, the packers would be nothing, and without Faulk, the Rams would be nothing.

A good quarterback can take his team on his shoulders when they\'re struggling and carry them to victory.  Warner hasn\'t been able to.  One dimensional or not, they looked pretty damn bad with him.

Yes, you don\'t have QBs carrying the whole load because any coach with half a brain knows that you need a running game to win games.  I think that it can be even more important than a passing game.  However, during the time when Warner was carrying the load, he never seemed to have a stretch of time this year when he was able to put his team on his back and carry them, even for part of a game.  There are other QBs who can do that.

Oh, and you want a QB that has pulled a load for his team, and done so effectively?  Look at McNabb when Staley was hurt.

actually a good D, could hurt the QB\'s numbers because he wouldn\'t be playing catchup, thus wouldn\'t be throwing as much.  However it could also help him, because it would limit his time off the field, if it held the opponent to few 1st downs.

But that, in turn, could lead to him being tired, if he has to play for a majority of the game time, and that could lead to interceptions and other mistakes.

Without the Philly D McNabb and their offense would score 7 points a game

wouldnt it be that without their D, their offense would have a bunch of points since theyd get the ball so much?
Title: ~Official NFL 2002-2003 Thread~ (2)
Post by: shockwaves on November 07, 2002, 07:47:29 PM
Well, assuming that they do still have some D in there (although a bad one), it wouldn\'t.  The other team would always go on long drives, meaning the offense would have the ball less than if a good defense forced three and outs.  The offense would also have worse field position, on average, with a worse defense.

There we are. You\'re right, they can\'t move the ball for their life. They haven\'t scored 40 points in quite some time (I believe it was against the Chiefs the last time they did it :()

Speaking of the Chiefs, 4-4, and going to go on a large run and make the playoffs by the end...to lose to the....well...The Chiefs can beat anybody in the AFC :)

They remind me of Virginia Tech.  When its time for them to throw the ball to catch up,  will they be able to do it?  McNabb is averaging 5 yards a pass...

You are clearly pulling that out of your ass.  The Eagles average the 2nd most yards per game of any NFC team.  They move the ball better than most teams out there, including the Packers, Niners, Saints, and Rams.  They scored over 40 against Dallas, which does have a decent D, 37 against the Skins, and 35 against the Texans.  They are third most in points in the NFC, behind only the Saints and the Packers, at over 27 points a game.  But the bottom line is, they move the ball better than almost any other team in the NFC, with the second most yards per game.  If you are going to claim something like that, make sure it\'s true first.

For those in the FF League, here is the layout for the keeper league;

You can keep the following;
1QB
2RB
2WR
1TE
and 2 Extra Spots

The Draft postions will be decided by the worst record at the end of the season will get the first draft spot, and the place you finished in the playoffs.

Also, if I think anyone is purpously loosing games so that they can get the first draft spot, I\'ll put you at the last spot.  Another thing, the teams that have been very unactive will have their players taken and given to a new manager (49raiders, and Cloud could be the cassualties.  Cloud will be pulled because even though he checks on his team and sets his starters, he doesn\'t really take part in the league like the other teams.  The 49raiders will be pulled because he doesn\'t do shit other than set his roster, and we have no idea who the hell he is)

You probably haven\'t seen them play this season so you look at stats and think they will tell you how a team is performing...

The Eagles had 300 yards rushing vs the Giants but Only scored what was it 20 points?  So if a stat person like you looked at this game you would think they had a very good game offensivley,  but the truth is they didnt.  McNabb saved them with his scrambling abilities

That isn\'t at all true.  First of all, I have watched them several times.  In that Giants game, Duce Staley tore them apart, for a ton of yards.  The Giants just happen to be one the very best red zone Ds in football...I didn\'t see St. Louis score all that much on em either.  Besides, you were talking about them moving the ball anyway, so you can throw scores out the window.  McNabb never saved them from anything.  His scrambles were late in the game, while the Eagles were ahead anyway, and when the Giants were playing him differently, only because of what Staley had been doing all day.  It was Staley that opened up those running lanes for McNabb.  I mean, did YOU see the game?

Here are my week 10 FFL predictions;
Winner in bold

Omen\'s A$$ Badgers
The Osmosis Kittens!
This is the game of the week, #1 vs #3, both with the same record.  Shox beat me the first week of the season, but I have a different team now, and I\'ll get my revenge.

Vapor Snake\'s Foot
Cloud345
A slight upset, though record wise this is a huge upset.  I think that this week just favors Vapor, and if Cloud doesn\'t do something drastic he\'s gonna miss the playoffs.

Nebraska Cornhuskers
Boston Mediocre
I\'m giving this one to James, but with David Boston out for James, it could go either way.

49Raiders
SouthernPimps -
Most boring game of the week, I give this one to the 49raiders.

Vid\'s Team Cocky
THE MOTHER ****ERS
A bit of an upset,  but I think that LUKE will take Vid this week.  LUKE has his 2 star RB\'s back this week, and Vid is missing soe WR talent.  It\'ll be close, but in the end I give it to LUKE because of Vids week Wr\'s.

I don\'t know Omen.  Sure, you have a new look team, but I would never go and underestimate the power of an Osmosis Kitten.  They are very magical creatures, and where they go, winning seems to follow.  Besides, you aren\'t the #2 team :p

corrected my typo on being number 2.  but then again, I\'ll be number 1 after tomarrow ;)

And if I beat you, and LUKE beats Vid, I\'ll be one whole game on top of everybody!  But then again, if you beat me, and LUKE beats vid, you\'ll be a game on top, and that will make baby Jesus cry.
Title: ~Official NFL 2002-2003 Thread~ (2)
Post by: shockwaves on November 09, 2002, 05:31:31 PM
No, that will make baby Jesus happy.  Afterall, those who know the history of the Osmosis Kittens know that the original team name was the Carolina Jesus Kittens.  Then, to make jewish members of the team happy, it was changed to the Jesus-Moses Kittens.  After a while of saying that long name quickly, Jesus-Moses simply became Osmosis.  Strange but true.

And omen, look at the league.  Tell me if you are interested at all in what I offered.  I think that maybe we could work something out if we talk about a trade enough.
Title: ~Official NFL 2002-2003 Thread~ (2)
Post by: theomen on November 09, 2002, 05:38:27 PM
I saw the trade, and I sent a message along with my decision.  It\'ll be difficult for us to get a deal done, because I\'m pretty much only interested in getting an upgrade at wideout.  And because Harrison is averaging a tenth of a point less than Ward, and a tenth more than Conway, those guys would be a wash.  I have Holt and Keyshawn who I\'d package, but you probably won\'t be interested in that trade.

Also, if it would help at all, I could trade one of my defenses.  I have 2 of the top 3 defenses I believe, including the best one over the past month or so.  So one of those would be available.

*cries*

If you would have told me that the 49ers wouldn\'t score in the 2nd half, would have only been up 17-10 at halftime, and they would have won, I would have laughed at you. But lo and behold, the Chiefs D gives up WAY too many 3rd down conversions (10 of 15), had to stop 3 in a row in order to get it to 10 of 15. Trent Green takes a couple of critical sacks, and the play calling after the 3 great plays to get it down to the 40 in 16 seconds did them in. Should have done a draw play with 3rd and 11 to try and fake them out. Either way, Kennison should have caught the ball.

Another tough loss. Chiefs are 4-5, and all of the 5 losses are by 7 points are less. It\'s been a rough year footballwise....

See Yuz.

Well, I\'m down by like 40 points in our league now.  I have Elam, Smith, and McCaffrey playing on Monday though.  I wouldn\'t say that you have it in the bag yet.  Especially if Martin keeps running well.

I still have a shot.

If Shannon Sharp can get me 10 touchdowns and 60 yards then I am in....

Damn, nothing worse than having a +100 game and still losing by 50+

Well, the Jets are winning, and if the Jets are winning, and Miami is losing then the Jets should run more.  That\'s a good thing :)

I\'m hoping that Ricky will get some late game carries, as he\'s a bruising back and should be able to wear down the defense.  If god damn ray lucas could pass the ball, RW wouldn\'t be facing a 9 man front.

Well, I\'m still down 40, with 3 people to play.  40 sure as hell isn\'t out of the question for those 3...who knows?

damnit, and I won\'t be able to watch the game tomorrow because of a study group.  I\'ll be worrying about it all night, well maybe not, but it might be on my mind a little.

or the Bears or getting better...

You don\'t score 24 points in the last half and suck, I\'m sorry but until they LOSE to a bad team they are still contenders in my book, and AFC EAST, AFC, and World champions...
