Title: Coolest moment in video game history
Post by: clowd on October 27, 2002, 08:38:21 AM
(contains spoilers)

Here\'s my top 4

4.  The Bouncer:  Promo video of the bar scene fight,  if only the game had fighting that cool

3.  Final Fantasy 7:  Weapons release and Saphire\'s attack on Junon

2.  Final Fantasy 7:  The ending when theres that flash of light,  everyone closes their eyes completly but Clowd,  exhausted looking from the long journey,  just half way closes his eye lids.  Too cool.

1.  Metal Gear Solid 2:  Toward the end after octacon\'s sister dies when Snake Octacon and Raiden walk toward the camera in slow motion...I couldn\'t stop laughing

1.FF8 intro
2.FF7:Cloud\'s way through final confrontation with Sephiroth,Sephiroth\'s glance after walking through the fire, descovering Cloud\'s true past
3.Silent hill:the parts with the cat,the painting of the door, the appearance of a button of a fourth floor in the elevator(I read somewhere that number 4 resembles death in japan. So they never have a 4th floor in their hospitals.)
4.Omega Boost:Final Stage(falling to the endless tunnel while fighting with the wrom like creature. The combination with the music still arouses me)
5.Prasite Eve:The cut scenes and the fights with the bosses.
6.Vagrant Story:The same as parasite Eve

Final Fantasy IX:

Seeing Alexander summoned.  Watching that all hateful look from Eiko when Zidane rescued Dagger.

Watching the whole team go to Terra

Watching Kuja flying around on his dragon, then checking his forehead for blood.

Watching Kuja trance and destroy an entire world:D

Final Fantasy X:

The Spring cutscene.

Sonic Adventure:

The whale smashing up the dock right behind Sonic.

Windy Valley level.  Such a rush.

All fights with Chaos, especially as Super Sonic.

Skies of Arcadia:

Going into the Dark Rift.

Seeing Rodriguez destroy the gods, or were they considered elders...meh,  it\'s been so long.

Banjo-Kazooie:

When the jinjo\'s formed Super Jinjo and hit Gruntilda.

Kingdom Hearts

Getting to fight Ursula.

Seeing Aeris again:)

The ending:)

That\'s all I can think of for now.

Contra (NES) - Seeing the "thank you for playing" message at the end of the game after beating it without continuing.

Ikaruga (DC) - Beating any level after level 1 without dying.

Final Fantasy VII (PSX) - Aerith\'s death scene and the fight afterwards and how much I wanted to take Siphiroth down.

Street Fighter II (SNES) - When I first got this game, it was a totaly unexpected gift.  Great moment in my opinion.

Street Fighter Alpha 2 (PSX) - When i stomped my friend into the ground so hard that he turned into a scrub and actually started calling me cheap.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (PSX) - When I found this game on the shelf at EB for a mere 30 dollars while on EBay it was going for $100 or more.

Metal Gear Solid (PSX) - After you watch the Hind D take off, you have to make your way up to the second floor vent (the preferred floor anyways).  That moment when you crawl inside is the moment when the demo ended that came with the Official Playstation Magazine, but realizing that I was now wading into untraveled territory was a great experience.

Sega Dreamcast (System Launch) - Picking this system up right after school at about 12:45PM realizing that this was the first system I had ever fully bought with my own money, games, accessories and all.

Sega Dreamcast (Import) - Trading in the US console for a m0dified import system and popping in Street Fighter 3 W-Impact and Virtual On Oratario Tangram for the first time.

Einhander (PSX) - Getting the Juno cannon for the first time and mastering the Python as well.  Playing the last level rocked also with all the changing perspectives.  Good stuff.

Resident Evil (PSX) - The first encounter with the Hunters after you re-enter the mansion.

Mega Man X (SNES) - Getting the fireball from Dr. Light and using it to obliterate almost every boss.

Capcom Vs SNK 2 (PSX) - Completing the entire combo super that Rock Howard does during an actual match and winning the round.

Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox) - Both The Maw and The Silent Cartographer levels both single player and co-op.  Great experiences there.  Also making it on legendary with almost 2 minutes to spare to the escape shuttle.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader (GCN) - The entire Return of the Jedi recreation around the Forrest Moon of Endor, over the second deathstar, and inside the second deathstar.

You know what, there are so many more so I\'m just going to stop there.  In the words of Cable in Marvel Vs Capcom 2... "That\'s enough for now..."

Phantasy Star 4: When Chaz finally accepts his role as leader of the party against the Profound Darkness and takes hold of the Elysdion.. feeling the spirits of all those who died to protect Algol flow through him, including Alyz who died earlier in the game.

Ghouls & Ghosts: Struggling vainly to reach the end and face Loki only to find out you have to go all the way back to very beginning again and fight through the entire game AGAIN.. this time with the difficulty bumped up a notch.

Resident Evil: The dogs busting through the window the first time you enter the crooked hallway.

Leisure Suit Larry: Finally getting ahold of Burgandy\'s discarded clothes and giving them to Shabalee so that she\'ll go on a date with you. Meeting her on the beach.. whispering sweet nothings into her ear.. lighly kissing her dark skin.. and then slyly pulling out your condom.. which she promply grabs and puts on. o_O WTF!!?!?

Quest for Glory 2: Finally finding out that the Ali Fakir Xray glasses have a purpose. MMMmm pixelated boobies. :D

Final Fantasy 8: Having the honor of being the only person on earth who actually enjoys this game moreso than Final Fantasy 7.

ok

they are Limit Breaks, which were better because you got more of them.

example

4 levels with an average of  2 limit brakes per tier = 8 per character

therefore

Limit breaks (FF7) > Overdrives (FFX)

happy ?

Some of mine have already been mentioned, but two that come to mind were the first time I played the original Tomb Raider I felt a sense of awe at being able to explore those awesome underground areas.

I also felt that the first real scare from Resident Evil when the first dog breaks the window and jumps at you was incredibly cool.

Other than that, I was a huge fan of Mortal Kombat and MKII, and I remember Mortal Monday very well. Although the graphics were obviously not as good on the home systems as in the arcade, I remember how cool it was to see the digitized graphics on the Genesis and to be able to rip out an opponents spine in the comfort of my own home.

Might have to make that one of two people.  I also liked it more.

Anyway, this is a no brainer for me.  The number one sequence in any game for me was the scene of Alexander protecting Alexandria from Bahamut in Final Fantasy IX.  The best scene from my favorite game.

On the other side of the spectrum, by far the worst moment in my video gaming life time was when Boneyards, the online gaming service for one of my all time favorite games (Total Annihilation: Kingdoms) went offline.  The company that ran it (Cavedog), was bought by a larger company.  That country decided that providing online gaming for a product wasn\'t profittable, and closed it down.  Morons.

1. Seeing the ending of MGS. I almost cried when I heard that song in the end.
2. Beating MGS in only 3 hours.
3. Beating MGS2 in only 5 hours (both chapters combined)
4. Winning GTA3 (I cheated so it wasn\'t too big of an accomplishment. playing through without cheats though again).
5. Opening up my PS2 at christmas. Damn was I happy.

1. Pretty much the whole Zelda: OoT experience.

2. The boss in the fourth temple in the dark world from Zelda: Link To The Past. There were all these spikes and fire flying at you all at once while the ground was moving you in random directing. It wasn\'t very hard, but it was pure genius.

3. Playing Mario 64 for the first time. It just blew my mind.

4. The 3rd disk of Shenmue. The single greatest disk ever.

5. Beating Mother Brain, then escaping from Zebes in Super Metroid. Amazing finish to one of the greatest games ever.

Honorable mentions-A lot of stuff from Majora\'s Mask(the goron race, the Oni-Link mask etc), , beating the Temple on 00 to completely beat the game(Goldeneye), the last level in Banjo-Kazooie, a couple of parts in Eternal Darkness(when that huge boss just blew your head off before you even got a chance to fight him), etc.
