Seems those who did the on-line testing and completed the forms are invited to Beta test "Everquest - Online Adventures"
Just curious if anyone else got the invite. I just got it tonight, but damn is their site slow.
I don\'t even know how I got picked in the first place, guess I registered somewhere at the right place somewhere along the line..
Wooopty dooo daaa

I got an invite for Beta II.
I was never interested in the game at first, but after reading up, it actually sounds kinda cool. They seem to be doing things a lot different than the PC verions.
If anything, it\'ll be nice to see the differences between it and the PC version. I played the PC version for over two years.
-
I\'ve never played it. Should be cool.
I will have to check out the Pc version before this comes out.
-
I have not participated in any other beta test on the PS2, but I signed up for this one. Never played Everquest before.
-
Nope.. but then again.. I don\'t have a PS2 or Modem Adaptor. Even if I did tho, I wouldn\'t because I don\'t have the slightest interest in EverQuest. I\'ve talked to alotta people who abhor the PC version, and frankly the PS2 version looks like complete garbage graphically. I hope they were just tweaking the gameplay engine while using the PC version\'s graphics. Final Fantasy XI should prove that the PS2 can do gorgeous looking MMORPGS.. why should EQ look like it\'s stuck in 1998?
-
Im beta phase1 thru to phase3, possibly 4 but cant really say alot due to the NDA.
-
why should EQ look like it\'s stuck in 1998?
perhaps yer stuck in 1998
-
I have to agree with SonyFan on this one. EQ was the biggest waste of time for me. In retrospect I keep asking myself why I played the game for almost 2 years. You can\'t solo (with most classes), healing, medding, etc takes forever. Trying to find the Ancient Cyclops in the South Desert of Ro is what drove the nail in the coffin for me. After 20 hours of looking (not all at once) I finally see him and start attacking only to have some lame wizard come and kill him in 2 seconds and grab the loot. Being a 47th Level SK I can\'t kill like a wizzy can even with harm touch. The endless camping for spawns and trying to find groups... the game had some great ideas, but rereleasing it to an extent on the PS2 is a mistake. Maybe they will make it more suitable for soloing and end the "evercamping"... we will just have to wait to see.
Star Wars Galaxies on the other hand is what I am looking forward to.
-
you took an SK?
no wonder you couldnt find a group
thats like being a satanist and going to the park to look for friends
all classes can solo, but some are much easier to others . an SK being one of the easy ones
medding takes forever? lol
-
I\'ve never played it before, but if they wanna give me a free game with free access, well, hellz yeah! free stuff is always cool
-
heres yer stuck in 1988 picture

I\'m in!!
PhaseII Beta:)
Wow! First I beta the NA, now this.
Happy happy- Joy joy!!
-
Hmm... a PoP pic.
Even more raids. :crap:
That game is nothing raids every time you log on any decently high level character.
It\'s hard to believe they actually are planning TWO more EQPC expansions.
Anyway, I got the EQoA beta invite. It\'ll be interesting to see the differences between the PC and PS2 versions.

People just didn\'t appreciate what an SK had to offer :) Yes an SK could solo by fear kiting rather easily, though I think you believe it was too easy. An SK\'s pet is worthless since it is half your level. Not to start a whole SK debate, but try soloing an SK when you are over level 40. You will spend most of you time healing or trying to find a rez as a lot of mobs resist fear or it breaks at the worst moment.
I also had a Shaman who was sort of fun to play, but once you get into the hell levels it got old fast. The point I am trying to make is that it takes hours just do something if anything at all. You can\'t log on for one hour and expect to get a whole lot accomplished. The time requirement was the biggest turn off for me.
-
/me turns back the clock a little bit to 1996....
http://www.gamers.com/game/1130619
s\'cuse me.. I was just trying to make the situation seem a little less pathetic than it actually was for people who are actually looking forward to this title. It\'s the PS2 for christs sake.. granted not the most powerful hardware.. but these kinda graphics are just inexcusable. Cig, please tell us they\'ve done a massive overhaul of the graphics engine because if it\'s already gone to Beta testing then there\'s not much hope.
-
you cant expect to play ANY RPG for an hour and expect to get somewhere
and when did graphics become so important?
*ripped from that article*
The game world extends over 360 square miles of varied terrain, and Sony promises absolutely no load times with a seamless, zone-free layout. (We\'ll believe that one when we see it.
why not? king\'s field did it 5 years ago
-
I got the invite too but have no desire to play EQ. I played it for a few hours a long time ago and hated it.
-
Graphics aren\'t all that imporant in context to gameplay.. yet, why did people buy the PS2 for? What\'s the use of shelling out 200 bucks on a next gen system when this is what people can throw on it and expect to sell. Graphically sub-par is one thing if the gameplay is there.. hell look at Animal Crossing.. but J-H-Christ mm.. there IS a standard to meet.
And it\'s comming from Sony no less... ugh. Where\'s that Boob Raider "Quality Control" thread at.. I\'ve got some new arguments for it right here.
/me looks at FFXI and then looks at EQ:OA and just shakes his head..
-
I too recieved the invite. I think I am going to try it since I refused to get evercracked out on my PC.

sonyfan
wanna bet on which is gonna be more popular?
-
Don\'t change the subject here. For someone as jaded as you, I\'m surprised YOU\'RE not complaining. Maybe if I had some webspace to host pics I could run one thru PhotoSuite and give it a good dose of gaussian blur and then see what you think. :)
-
everquest isnt played for its graphics
its the solid gameplay and social possibilities that keep people hooked and paying
me included
if i wanted graphics over gameplay, i\'d dust off my dead xbox
-
I3astards sent me the email and make me sign up for the "station" and then when i go to sign up for beta testing i get the "US residents only".
meh
-
Perhaps.. but many games can give you solid gameplay and social possiblities.. while looking far better in the process. There\'s quite a few of them comming out this generation for both the PC and Console platforms. I\'m not arguing that graphics > Gameplay... I\'m arguing that there should at least be a standard. What if GTA3:Vice City was released with Driver 2 style graphics? I really couldn\'t see you defending that.
-
Dark Age of Camelot is way better IMHO. EQ is just tedious. You either love it or hate it. I obviously fall into the latter.
-
lol, DOAC is crap
everyone who leaves EQ for it, comes right back
sonyfan, EQ is almost 4 years old. how can u possibly compare it to games "coming out this generation"
i guess you havent seen the EQ2 screens?
but many games can give you solid gameplay and social possiblities.. while looking far better in the process.
name one
ultima online? nope
DOAC? nope
anarchy online? nope
ff11? nope
its ok to be an EQ hater, but you cant cover it up with false pretenses
-
I\'m not talking about EQ:PC here mm.. I\'m talking about EverQuest: Online Adventures.. the game comming out for the PS2 according to that Gamers.com artical, and the only EQ game I\'ve heard of comming to the PS2 which I would assume everyone\'s talking about beta testing here. That is compairable to games of this generation because it IS one of them.
I\'ve personally got no problem with EQ, but I can\'t stand to see this level of sloppyness going into what could very well be a marquee online title for the PS2.. expecially comming from Sony\'s own studios... and then turn around and have people actually defending it. Ugh.
-
and im saying its a mmorpg
it doesnt have to have eye stunning graphics
-
Well, there\'s a difference to looking average anno 2002 (2003?) and looking average anno 1996. :)
-
mm, 800 hours to reach level 50 is a bit much for me. I am sorry to disagree, but EQ is a time vacuum without much reward other than running around saying look at me I am level 50. Online adventures seems it will be pretty much the same kill, heal, med and wait for respawn boredom that the PC version was. If I am wrong, I would be interested in picking it up.
On the same topic, I will have to agree it was (until I realized how much time I was wasting) a captivating world which MMORPG\'s should all be. The atmosphere and social interaction is without equal when it comes to games like these. Before I was married, it was easy to find the time to immerse myself, but now 800 hours is not a luxury I have anymore.
I don\'t flaw EQ in graphics or social interaction, just gameplay as I mentioned above.
-
It\'s a PS2 game.. it should have eye stunning (or at least pleasing) visuals. Were we talking about a PC game that is built so most everyone can play regardless of system specs, then I\'d agree with you. The point is.. it\'s ugly.. for no good reason other than to save a few bucks.
Ugh...
And yet.. a little bit of blur in an Xbox game makes you weep. Don\'t become the pstwo of EQ mm....
-
ive stated repeatedly
gameplay over graphics, especially with mmorpg\'s
shall i print it out and mail it to you so u might understand it?
-
Oh I understand perfectly.. but hey.. if you wanna waste your credibility and money on this hodgepodge slap-together spin-off of a popular PC game.. then hey.. don\'t let me get in the way of your double standards.
-
HEY! I enjoy DAoC. It falls behind EQ int he raids and epic adventures but i love RvR even as my gimped warrior. Plus it doesnt take a year just to go from 40-50 like EQ took 50-60.
As for graphics. I am glad to sacrifice some graphics for smoother and less laggy gameplay. When you get 100+ people runnin around casting spells and the game looks more like a slideshow you will understand this.
-
A: Graphics have nothing to do with lag. That\'s bandwith, and you\'d have a problem with it when over a hundred people\'s IP\'s are sending the servers (and you) data packets over limited bandwith. It could be 2d and you\'d still have the same problem.
B: FFXI seems to have pulled off gorgeous looking graphics with massive amounts of players all interacting together on the same screen. Least, I\'ve yet to hear a complain from any importers I know. Wonder where Kokopuphz is at so he can confirm this so that it\'s not just "MY" word?
-
I have the 1st beta but im not playing it, as i think its absolutly rediculous that i need 4mb free on my memotry card....im not deleting saves nor am I getting a naw card anytime soon. Im at 2MB left, so ill proably dust these bad boys off hwen i finish up my card
-
Hmm, those of u who have not even reached lvl 50 in EQ, realy dont know much about the game, so no need to whine about it at all. I respect those of u who dont have time to play a game like EQ, but dont play it at all then, EQ is for the geeks that have time for it and enjoy doing big quests that require time, challenge and even some camping. EQ is all about having a goal in the game, first it may be lvl 20, then 50 , lvl 60, epic, getting different keys to different dungeons, killing a bad ass mob together with your guild and be the first to do it on the server. Most of this goals can be achieved, if u have time to it. If u know u dont have time to camp those jboots, or dont have time to lvl to 60, the game can quickly be very boring... because u dont play it enough to achieve any goal at all, and u end up just fooling around. MMORPG`s is not for casual gamers at all, go back and play GT3 or something if 1 or 2 hours is what u can spend for 1 day or so.
As for EQ for PS2, I doubt it will be better then the original. I also doubt any hardcore EQ gamers from the pc community will even try it, and I also doubt FFXI will be a big success compared to PC MMORPG titles. The reason is simple as this, MMORPG`s is designed for PC, same as FPS games is designed for PC and RTS. It simply dont work in the same good way on a console. And to the guy who said DAOC is better then EQ, I kinda disagree, even though we all can have different opinions ofcourse :) But the graphic is worse then eq, and it should not be since it is a newer game. The world is smaller, the gameplay isnt as good as EQ, not as many mobs, the characters looks boring (lvl 50 character doesnt look as cool as a lvl 60 eq character).
As for me, EQ2 is the only mmorpg that interest me, and Shadowbane. But Shadowbane I wont have the time to play, so I wont even try it :)
-
got a email today.. damn u england and your no online ps2
-
Well damn it. My ethernet cable is fried and I just got the EQOA Beta disk in the mail today. This would happen to me... I gotta figure out something...
-
Your not missing anything Giga. I just tried to connect... servers are going up and down every couple of minutes tonight.
I was on for a while earlier... but I got lost in my starting city, heh. This thing is way different than PC EQ.
-
Tell me this though, is the same old camp heal/med wait for respawn stuff though?

Wasnt that half of the charm with eq and all other mmorpgs ? :)
-
Not really - now I wouldn\'t want to see it too easy, but a little less downtime would be nice.

I can play eq with no downtime at all, if u have downtime during exp... it is mainly because your group sucks. As for camping stuff, I would not see it in another way realy, if u want good equipment, u better work for it... noone force u to camp items, but if u do, the reward is there. The only downtime I can see in this game that is boring, is CR. But then again, that is your own fault most of the times, or your guild, but this has been fixed already in POP. U get your corpse to the zone in if u die. "Downtime" have to be in mmorpgs, its not final fantasy u are playing, those who spend time will get the item he want, better this way then to see a noob who spend 4 hours a week getting a item some other guy spent 4 hours a day to get.
