Title: Show your desktop (the usual 56k warning)
Post by: nO-One on November 06, 2002, 01:26:23 PM
I was bored so I decided to make my self a new desktop, got a new theme and stuff.

Just the desktop (http://www.imagemagician.org/filelist.php?large_view=desktop1.jpg)

And with an open window (http://www.imagemagician.org/filelist.php?large_view=desktop2.jpg)

Anyway, here\'s mine:

I just got XP about two days ago, so I\'m still customizing it and what not.

Fear the kickass Final Fantasy IX wallpaper.

The program I use is called Actual Transparent Windows.  I basically just searched for transparency and XP, and that was the first good program to come up.

Nothing fancy, but I like it simple.

it not that big of a deal i wouldnt mind having 2000(less usless crap than xp) but xp\'s alot prettier and is better if you not the only person in the house that uses the computer and the other people arent that great with computers but if you do get xp get pro edition, home edition is a waste of time

I have XP Pro, its good, though it still has bugs.

My computer for some reason thinks I don\'t shut it off properly and everytime I boot it wants to disc check, but it takes like 2 hours to do this, so unless your at the computer when you boot it up and skip the check, then your stuck there for like hours.

ohh Adan, I I seriously advice you to turn on ClearType, it looks so much better than the regular font rendering, especially on lcd\'s and I know you\'re using a lappy.

Right click on the desktop and select Properties>>Appearance>>Effects. There are two drop down menus there by default the lower one is greyed out, above it is a tick box which says "Use the following method to smooth edges on screen fonts" make sure that is selected then the drop down menu should become selectable. There select Clear Type and then click Apply.

Your screen fonts will now be antialiazed, they look darker and much better than no font smoothing.

:)

Here\'s another one of my desktop with an open window, since I can\'t attach two file :)

This one is really compressed so the quality is bad.

Thanx nO-One, I tried it out but i don\'t like that smooth look of the fonts... It\'s ugly IMO.

Well, I did try it out the other night, while I was continuing to customize XP, and I really like it.  Thanks nO-One.

Ryu this has nothing to do with this thread, but how is Photoshop 7? Worth the money if you have 6.0?

the most used program is res hacker which I use to hack my shell32.dll, to change the system icons and toolbar icons.
I use e-icons to change my mp3 icons and other program icons.
And for the programs I just make a shortcut to my desktop and change the shortcut icon. I make my own backgrounds and I use StyleXP to change Visual Styles. My current theme is called Dominion, it kinda fits my background.

Ryu is that Coco or the TomTom enviroment your using?

Worth the money?  umm.. hmm... If you really have the cash to blow on it and have 6 already, don\'t.  Buy an iPod instead for the PC.

press print screen then go into mspaint or any other image editor then just paste it and save it.
