Title: OMG, I want one of these!
Post by: ##RaCeR## on November 06, 2002, 03:06:09 PM
Melbourne, Australia – Chrysler Jeep’s world-first approved factory refinish right-hand-drive (RHD) program outside of the US makes its venomous strike on the Australian marketplace in October this year.

Judith Wheeler, Managing Director Chrysler Jeep Australia/Pacific Islands said ‘this is the first time the US has approved a RHD factory refinish program to be conducted outside of the US. This is a re-affirmation of Detroit’s commitment to the Australian market”.

“We are very excited about the Viper program. A total of 64 local produced parts, which are to exacting specifications of the original parts, has been used and in some cases the local parts have been further refined to a higher specification by the Viperformance Factory,” said Ms Wheeler.

"The Viperformance team understands the passion that goes hand in hand with ownership of a Viper and carefully hand build each project. Every detail of the Viper has been checked for maximum functionality and true performance."

Whats worse is that its the 1stgen(nothing wrong with that) but we now have the 2ng gen :D

On a side note, its techincally not available yet and even if it was, each one produced for the 03 model year is already sold :( Not like I could afford one anyway.

Yeah, I was going to ask about that.  Are these used cars being refurbished, or what?

The way Chrysler is handling sales of the 03s is so funny...  As I recall, they offered existing Viper owners a certificate which permitted them to buy a 2003.  Almost the entire production year was sold this way.  The owners somehow agreed with each other not to pay more than a few hundred dollars over invoice.  The dealers, who are used to charging $10K or $15K over MSRP for these cars are mad as hell because they\'re not permitted to sell to anyone but the certificate holders.  I think it serves those greedy bastards right.  I HATE those damn dealer markups.

I think marking a car up passed the MSRP is completely stupid.  I would never, in a million years, pay more than list.  Hell, I have never payed MSRP price.  I always pay under.  Ofcourse, Im not driving a viper or Corvete.  But hey, whatever.  A year ago, I was looking at a few different cars, and one was the new celica.  All the comercials you would see said "Starting at 15,000.  Now, I called about 5 different dealerships, and there was only one celica IN THE COUNTRY that was selling for that price.  I talked to some lady and she told me that she could order one direct, but I would have to pay for them to import it.  Which by the way, is the stupidest thing I have ever heard, only because it was so rediculously high to do that.  Infact, I would have been beter off just buying a more expensive car.  I hate shopping for cars.  Car salesmen piss me off.  ˆwish I was just loaded so I could walk into a dealership with a suitcase full of cash and drive away in my new shiny car. ;)

Err, I think they are brand new 03 Vipers. I was actually under the impression that they are the gen 2 RT/10\'s. That was the whole point, its the first new release Chrysler car to be sold outside the US with aftermarket gear approved by Chrysler.

There is only 100-200 of these babies a year, a evidently, all 03\'s have been sold.

Are you saying Toyota dealers were trying to charge a markup on the Celica a year ago?  Har har har.    I guess that didn\'t last long.  With all the pressure in that market from the RSX, WRX, Protege, SVT Focus, and others, I\'ll bet Toyota dealers would bend over backwards for you now.  In truth, you cannot judge the market by just calling or walking into a dealer and saying "how much you want for it?"  The normal sales droids will ALWAYS try to screw you if they have the opportunity.  I\'ll bet you could have gotten that Celica for Invoice + $300 if you had emailed the Fleet Managers and Internet Sales managers instead of talking to the sales droids.  That stuff about \'the only one in the COUNTRY" is complete and utter BULLSHIT.  It\'s all a big stupid game when buying a car, which is just sad.  I\'m playing that game right now as it happens.

Someone told me that you can\'t roll down the windows on a Viper. Not sure if it was just one model or any others but is it true?

It was the roadsters that were like that. They had a zippered plastic curtain untill 96.

You aren\'t goin\' to get a brand new Celica GT or GTS for $15,000 unless it is stripped to the core. I just bought one and mine was $23,000 and that is the cheapest I could get it. Of course it was brand spankin\' new (all miles put on by me!), fully loaded and what not.

Like I said - you can get a Celica for that price though if you take all the pretty goodies (moon roof, etc) off of it. But what\'s the fun in that?

That paint job is WAY too much.  Not very tasteful in my opinion... but then the Viper has never been about subtlety anyway.  What the hell is with that name printed on the side... "STRYKER"  Man that is downright stupid.  It\'s like the main character\'s name from some phucked up crappy b-movie.

It\'s a showcase car. All companies showcase cars are distinct nowadays. As for Stryker..probably because SVS means Stryker Viper Systems :)
