Presentation
Metroid reborn in 3D, and an impressive sci-fi fantasy to boot. Awesome menus. Design is great from concept to execution. Few games are this polished: 10.0

Graphics
A stunning art vision that deserves major recognition, jaw-dropping world architecture, and volumes of pretty textures. At 60 fps with progressive scan support, there are few that compare: 9.0

Sound
The original Nintendo composer delivers another opus and fantastically designed sound effects compliment the mood with Dolby Pro Logic II support: 10.0

Gameplay
A true masterpiece; an accomplishment that will be recognized for years. It is Super Metroid in 3D, and it\'s as complex and wonderful as any gamer could want. Any self-respecting gamer must own it: 10.0

Lasting Appeal
30+ hours to average completion. Requires much longer to earn 100%. Unlock art galleries, difficulty settings, and connect to GBA for extras. No multiplayer, but like Zelda, do we need it? 9.0

OVERALL SCORE: (not an average) 9.8

Sounds like a game worth owning to me.

Here\'s some great movies of the game.

I dislike FPS games with a passion. I played the demo, and was not that hot for it. Perhaps it will get better?? I guess I may pick this one up. If it is a normal FPS, and I dislike it. Well it won\'t be the first or last time I bought a game I really disliked.

You may control Samus from the first-person perspective, but that doesn\'t autimatically mean it will be like every other FPS(and from what I\'ve read this is the case).

Keyword=demo. You really can\'t judge a supposedly 30 hour game by a small demo.

I don\'t get what the deal is with this game. All the movies and screens I\'ve seen from this game doesn\'t make me excited in the least.

I couldn\'t believe that they gave the game that high of a score.  It really seemed like a risk to take the game in this direction, but they really seem to love it.  Makes me glad to have a Gamecube.  If what they say is true, this could be the game of the year.

All said and done,  it\'s still a FPS.

I don\'t why people jump on this game as much as they do,  it looks like another FPS to me.

What makes this game so much better,  then say,  a Red Faction or any other FPS for that matter?

to answer that Clowd, probably just about everything.. I played the demo of Red Fraction 2 and honestly, it\'s a disgrace. :(

As for Metroid Prime. Great to see some good scrores. Now I just wonder what this will do to GCN sales........

Clowd, play it, then judge it.  There always have been games that come out and completely redefine what a genre can be.  Perhaps this is one of those.  It looks more like an action adventure game that just happens to be played from a first person perspective than a first person shooter to me.

Is Super Metroid just another action game? No!

Metroid Prime is (gameplay-wise) Super Metroid in 3D with a first-person perspective. gg!

while I don\'t think this game is worth a 9.8 based off of play impressions and dislike of past Metroid games (never got why simple platforum jumping was so...awesome.

But as I played, I was kind of drawn to it. Will be picking it up when it comes out.

EDIT - Jumpy is a nice name, you know.

Super Metroid was more than just simple platforming. It was about exploration and getting rewarded for that, the action, power-up your suit and getting new upgrades to advance to new places, the awesome boss battles, being atmospheristic(word?), awesome sound, and then some platforming. All of these are returning in Metroid Prime thankfully. :)

It is isn\'t it? I would change it to that, but apparantly there was an awesome member by the name of Jumpman. It might get people into believing we\'re the same person.

To me....this game is a First Person Shooter.

But some reviewers are saying that it\'s not. That\'s because it has elements of jump and run, that it\'s an action/platform game.

Now, this may be beside the point, but for those of you who owns the game - is this a FPS or not?

Now recall that MGS2 had some FPS elements to it, but it didn\'t make it a FPS game.

MP got a 9.7 from Gamespot. That\'s a shock for me, because I was pretty much fully expecting them to hammer the review like they did with Mario Sunshine.

And from what I\'ve been hearing for the past forever, no, this is not just another FPS. This is Metroid in 3D.

It\'s hard for people to accept the possibility that "first-person view and gunfire" doesn\'t necessarily mean "typical Doom-style FPS". You kinda have to do that with Metroid Prime, though.

It\'s also hard to explain why this game is so hyped and highly acclaimed, to somebody who didn\'t play any of the Metroid games long enough to see beyond the "platforming" section of the gameplay..

I got it reserved but I won\'t pick it up for another month or two at least. I have RE0, Shinobi, Fusion and CastleVania:Sotn (Saturn) to get through. All games I have look forwared to and are not a FPS < - mainly not a FPS..

The original Metroid was a free roaming - side scrolling shooter with elements of platforming. Metroid prime is a shooter also, which puts players in a first person perspective.. with elements of Platforming. It\'s an FPS. It may not be your typical FPS, and certainly no-one\'s saying that it\'s a "Doom-Clone" by any means.. but don\'t kid yourself.

IMO this is like where alotta people have tried to pass Half-Life off as an adventure game due to it\'s puzzle solving and deep storyline.. but it\'s not. Half-Life was an FPS.. very innovative.. with elements of other genres.. but that still doesn\'t change what it is.

I\'ll be picking up Metroid Prime sometime next week as well as a NGC Keyboard, unless the good folks at Gamefaqs can figure out how to turn a PC, DC, USB, or Wireless KB into a NGC peripheral.

A little bit off-topic: About 2-3 weeks ago, I went to this GameStop with a GCN kiosk. (which was off) At the time, the Metroid Prime was supposed to be out within a few days, but I thought it might already be out.. so..

I ask the guy there. He says that they don\'t have it.. which is all well and good since it wasn\'t out at the time. I could\'ve stopped there, but I\'m a friendly person so I decided to let him know that they should be coming in soon.

Sadly, our friend the GameStop clerk replied with a "No, there will never be a Metroid Prime demo disc". I knew otherwise, of course.. and proceeded to tell him off. He denied th\' possibility that a Metroid demo disc exists.. over and over again. After the 3rd or 4th time, I said "Okay then, sir, you\'re the GameStop guy. You must be right.. cough". Apparently people like me are just peons to them once they fill th\' coveted position of "GameStop guy".

Silly casuals.

Anyways, I went in there today and the same guy was behind the counter. I head over to the GCN kiosk but sadly it\'s off.. boo hoo. Needless to say, the unit had the words "METROID PRIME PLAY IT HERE" plastered all over it. So before I left that dreaded store (EB > GameStop) I decided to make a small scene in which I sarcastically commented about the clerk\'s denial a few weeks prior. I\'m not sure, but I think I heard him mutter a "f**k you" under his breath. Saying th\' f-word to a customer, my friend? I could\'ve gotten the SOB fired on those grounds..

Which would be "mission accomplished"! Unfortunately, I\'m not quite that evil. Close to that, but not quite.

You should have made a scene when he uttered those words.

You didn\'t teach him a valuable lesson. :)

Amazing, brilliant, gorgeous, beautiful, superb, kick ass...quite possibly the best thing to come out of this generation, IMO.  And I\'ve only put an hour on it!

To anyone who was worried about it not retaining the look and feel of old Metroid...worry not.  Retro did their homework and put so much effort into this game.  The environments are amazing, the music is excellent, and the action is so reminiscent of past Metroid games.

To all the naysayers, I\'m very pleased to say you were 100% wrong.  They have pulled off the morph ball in a way that can\'t be described...the grapling hook is equally a pleasure to pull off.  (Although I\'ve only used it 2 times so far).

Fighting enemies...it\'s fast, frantic, and a blast.  Locking on is easy, strafing, and side dashing is a breeze.

The experience thus far earns a 10.  Everything is here and you\'d be fooling yourself to think this is not Metroid or a great game.

Lol, this is Retro\'s first game ever...Quite an amazing accomplishment, even with all the help from Nintendo themselves.
