"A sequel to FFVII?" comments Kitase while laughing. "In truth, there are many who\'d like to make such a game, Nomura, who\'s working on Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, included. Many of the Square staff participated in the development of FFVII, and the memories are strong. Additionally, expressing the world of FFVII using today\'s technology would certainly be interesting (laughs).
"However, FFVII still has many fans," he continues. "We couldn\'t make a bad product (laughs)."
Continuing in response to the question of his team\'s plans for the term beginning April of 2003 (FFX-2 comes out in March), Kitase says, "Our plans are not yet set for the coming term. Whether we\'ll work on a brand new title or a sequel to a title that we already have I don\'t know yet, but I\'d personally like to make something new."
So, to recap, Kitase laughs a lot and many of the Square staff has interest in a sequel to FFVII while Kitase himself is more interested in working on something new. The majority of Kitase\'s R&D 1 staff worked on FFVII, though, so if were were to see a FFVII-2 (a game which, we fear, would almost certainly feature a love sequence involving Tifa and and jive-talkin\' Barret), Kitase and his team would be the likeliest source."
If this is true this might be cool but square must really be out of ideas or something this is taking milking to a new level

OMG!!!I hope this is true.I hope there is a FF7 sequel.

Final Fantasy VII doesn\'t "deserve" a sequel. The original game ended on the right note, and that\'s all an RPG needs.
Now, if they make a sequel based in the world of FFVII, but in the distant future, then maybe it could work. And all new cast (maybe with an elder-aged Nanaki), but with a blend of new and old locales (an improved Gold Saucer!) would be nice.
But if they hope to bring back Cloud, Tifa, and the others, and try to incorporate them into a whole new story line, I\'m more than sure they\'d fail miserably. FFX-2? I know, but at least Part One left a little more to work with before its conclusion.

Screw FFX-2.FF7-2 needs the most dedication from Square.They must make it a game that should not destroy what FF7 was.And I prefer the idea of FF7-2 than FFX-2.
SQUARE better make it and make it good.
And better dont "feature a love sequence involving Tifa and and jive-talkin\' Barret"!!!

They directly stated their reasons for wanting to make a sequel:

I\'ve heard Final Fantasy XII is already under development, so I\'d hardly say the team is "out of ideas."

Well, how many of the Final Fantasy games are based off of one another? They\'re binded by name only.

If they want to make money quick, they should make something related to FF7.
Money is probably the only reason why they are thinking about another.
Also I hope it comes out on Playstation 3, because PS2 graphics are nothing new. Also if it comes out in 4 years, why make it on PS2 when you have PS3 technology?

I\'ll put it simple:
Spin-offs suck most of the time (specially when the original work was so much worshipped), because they tend to rely too much on the original story but usually end up not living up to it, which means that:
a. those who expected a new whole game/story/movie/whatever find it disappointing by its lack of originality.
b. those who expected it to be their last chance to revive the experience of the original will find it not to live up to it, and to be filled of rehashed arguments and characters, and sometimes, to be something that even detracts from the original game/story ( have you seen that Yuna with guns and shorts? What about Star Wars? Midiclorians anyone? Why not make a spin-off of RK\'s OVAs with a plot that involved time-travel, a cybernetically enhanced Kenshin and a cloned Tomoe who acts as a killer in the 25th Century? Well, you get the idea).
There\'re exceptions, of course, and it depends a lot on how the original was conceived, but FFs have always been a one-shot experience and aren\'t designed to have sequels IMHO.
Maybe when HDTVs become the standard, it\'ll be time for a remake as the original will look far worse on those TVs that how it looked when it was firstly released (due to low-res), as long as they don\'t change a thing apart from a graphics update.

They should spend a great amount of money and 2-3 years minimum to make this work.
Putting less effort on FF7-2 than FF7 wont make this a succesfull Sequel and it WILL disappoint if that is the case.I hope they wont see it as an easy money bringer.

Oh and Nobuo Umatsu better do ALL the music. FF7 wouldn\'t be half as good as it is if it wasn\'t for the music.

they should really do a re-make of FF8 the RIGHT way.......not like how FF8 is now.....which is crap!
