In a nut shell i would like to know wether increasing dowload speed while keeping the upload the same improve my ping in online games ( i wanna be able to play CS and SOF2 at under 300mS ping :()? (i.e i wanna go from 256/64 to 384/64 but its gonna be an extra 30$ a month)
-
its not yer download speed thats hurting you
its yer ping, and distance from server
CS would use less than 10k/sec in total bandwidth anyways
do a tracert on the server yer playing on to see how many hops away it is
-
my computer wont let me do a tracert, but a while back i used some software and it told me that i was anywhere from 8 - 16 hops from certain servers.
anyways it seems that i\'m gonna have to live with my shitty ping :(.
-
wont let u do a tracert?
click start, programs, accessories, command prompt OR
click start, run, and type in CMD
then
c:\\tracert 192.168.1.1 (or whatever IP the server uses)
this is my tracert to yahoo.com

i think i\'ve found what i was doin wrong rather the typing the command in this way "c:\\tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" iwas typing it when it was "c:\\documents and settings\\blah blah blah\\tracert..."
now if i can only remember how to to change the second command line to the first one. :p
-
the command to change directory is
cd
to get back to root directory type in
c:\\cd \\
-
Well, you should be able to type tracert or \'any\' other DOS command from any path.
-
this is what i get
"C:\\>tracert http://www.yahoo.com

i wish i get 170mS ping, and u know what the funny bit is the only time i got a ping of 170 was when i was playing against a friend of mine, did i mention that he only lives like 6km\'s away .
-
I used to get 20ms to 30ms. Thats why 170ms is crappy to me.
