I\'ve got a message from my Dad that my ISP called and said that if I leave my computer connected overnight (i leave it on to download large files) they would have to charge me exta. To me this sounds like bullshit, I pay for unlimited access and making me pay more when I excede my limit, would make me think that they don\'t quite understand the word unlimited, does that not mean without limits?
Has anybody ever heard of this before? Is this normal practice, I need to know so that I don\'t make a fool out of myslef when I call them tomarrow.
-
Unlimited ACCESS may not mean unlimited downloads.. It could just mean unlimited time connected to teh net... You may have a download limit etc.
-
well I have unlimited access, and unlimited usage hours.
-
I\'ve heard of stuff like that but luckily I don\'t encounter it with Road Runner.
-
if they try to keep me to a limited amount of usage, when I\'m paying for the shit, I\'m gonna give \'em the finger and go somewhere else.
-
I\'m with Bozco! Roadrunner doesnt have any rules like that...thank god.....
:hat:ScottyJ:hat:

Yeah, my \'unlimited evenings and weekends\' package is now limiting me to an average of four hours a day, or they just kick me off!! Getting broadband soon anyway, so it doesnt bother me!

What kind of service do you have? (DSL, Cable, dialup, etc) Who\'s your ISP (if you don\'t mind saying)? Read your service agreement. Sometimes they put language in there stating that you have "unlimited usage" but if the throughput becomes excessive, they can do things like cut you off or charge you extra. I think mainly they throw that in to give them a course of action incase a customer sets up a Porn site and webserver software on their PC. It all depends on what\'s written in your service agreement. Time to read it in detail.
-
I have dial up, a local company.
I went over my service agreement, and there\'s nothing of the sort that has limitations. Just basic stuff about not doing illegal acts, and all that fun stuff.
-
I\'ve heard of them getting pissed for pinging their server every couple minutes so you don\'t disconnect, but I\'ve never heard of them bitching if you are really downloading.
As long as you are using the line I see nothing wrong with it. If you are sitting idle then that\'s a problem cause you are wasting a line someone else could be using.
-
You may be alloted a certain amount of bandwidth that you are exceeding. In any case, tell them if they can\'t take it you\'ll take your business somewhere else.
-
Lol, I love the how \'unlimited bandwith\' can turn into limited bandwith if you download a lot. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of unlimited.
Hey I have an idea. I\'ll give one of you guys an unlimited amount of money to spend. But if you spend more than 5 bucks the deal is off.

I had the same thing with BT, unlimted my arse, they cut me off for excesive usage. Now I\'m with Uk Stamp and have no problems.
-
I have broadband, but the thing that really sucks is that all broadband in Australia at the moment have bandwidth limits.
Why would someone want a really fast internet connection if you can\'t use it??? I find that 3gb gets eaten up pretty quick over the course of a month.
-
If you end up exceeding the amount of bandwidth in a given month - they can indeed charge you for that. I\'d check my contract with the ISP for any small print, which most include.

ISP blowing smoke up my ass?
Suprised you havent blown anything up their ass!
I say **** them... or get a new company. Mine just charges an montly bill that is always the same (GCI HYPERNET, local company).
