I miss my satallite dish, tho. Haven\'t seen a match in a long time. There\'s a pub in across the border in Canada that shows matches, but I can\'t be bothered to get up @ 5:00 AM to go there....
-
YES!!!!!! At last, a thread dedicated to proper football. And what better way is there to get it started by announcing that Manchester United got hammered (again)
Woohoo X2.
edit// don\'t even mention Bolton.
-
Excellent, it\'s about time we had a thread about proper football. It was good to see the scum lose 3-1 to Man city.

-
Cool! a football thread! Can I post about the best league in the earth?
-
Anyone cares about Champions League? Here you have the draw for the next stage:
GRUPO A
Barcelona
Inter
Leverkusen
Newcastle
GRUPO B
Valencia
Arsenal
Roma
Ajax
GRUPO C
Real Madrid
Milan
B.Dortmund
Lokomotiv
GRUPO D
Manchester
Juventus
Deportivo
Basilea
-
how hard is man utd group, lol and arsenals, looks like its gonna get intresting
-
Yes, I think Manchester group is the hardest... FORZA DEPOR!
-
yeah, man utd... bye bye
-
What team will be the winner this year? Real Madrid is not doing very well, I don\'t really know what will be the final match. What do you think?
-
My predictions:
GRUPO A
Barcelona
Leverkusen
GRUPO B
Valencia
Ajax
GRUPO C
Milan
B.Dortmund :smokin:
GRUPO D
Juventus
Deportivo
Final: Valencia-Milan
Winner: Valencia
-
STROKE good choices... although Real Madrid is in my heart, I think this year it won\'t reach the final :(
-
WTF are you guys on about??????? Our group aint that bad, Juventus are no where near the team they were, and we easily knocked depor out of the Q-finals last season, theyre not as good now as they were then. And Basel?? Theyre are 100-1, longest odds for the competition, thats the best team to draw out of them, ajax and moscow. Ajax are the best out of them three and who wants to travel all the way to freezing moscow??? Our CL form has been really good this season, better than yours adan. We are second favourites, and we will top our group easy. Aresnal should go through, Newcastle have no chance
-
oh, and stroke leverkusen through and not inter????!!!!! leverkusen are crap now!!! they are only in this stage cos of an easy group
-

:D I can remember a couple of nice matches last year between Depor and Manchester. Barthez was superb :D Take care of yourself. Deportivo missed Valeron in a match and he\'s injured, but it\'s still dangerous.
Who\'s the favourite in Britain? Here is Real Madrid, obviously.
-
Man United are 2nd favourites for the competition, joint with Valencia. Dunno about Arsenal, but Necastle are 12th or 14th I think!!
-
naaaa man utd have some big probs, no keane, beckhams out for 6 weeks broken ribs, ferdinad out again......
-
Gary neville out, nicky butt out, need a striker. We got problems, even if they were all back, we seem to have lost our hunger and desire. Ferguson will be making big BIG changes in the summer, we wont win the premiership this season and his patience will run out with mediocre performances sooner or later. We just havent looked like we can be arsed since the treble season, more so this year and last tho.
-
BOLTON\'S BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woohoo, just what the doctor ordered, a 4-2 hammering handed out to Leeds by the good guys. Suddenly with a game in hand, they are off the bottom, things look a lot better, all they need is another couple of wins, and more importantly, to take advantage of that game they still have.
There may still be hope.
-
ah ah ah Dirty dirty LEEDs got beat :D
#Woot life is good :D
Come on Man City :D
-
yeah, bolton looked amazing, leeds looked crap....
liverpool drew with sunderland, 24 shots, sunderland had none........ baaaaaaaahhhhhh
-

Internazionale is international (what a beginning :)) not that impressive (by the way, Vieri is a son of ****). Ok, you cannot compare Leverkusen this year with the Leverkusen of last year with Ballack and Ze Roberto, but they can fight and I think they can reach the quarter final.
-
Guys, how is Ivan Campo doing it?

He\'s not doing too bad, he\'s a bit hot headed at times though......prone to a booking or two here and there, though some of the yellow cards he has recieved are questionable, he even had one overturned.
-
yeah, i think he getting more used to the speed of the premiership, and fitting in with his team mates better.. though as Cerberus said, a bit hot headed, but bolton as a whole are not doing that good
-

I have to admit, thaey are not. Don\'t get me wrong, they have been playing some good football at times, many a time they have been the aggressor in the games, only to fall behind due to bad defending.
Had they played to their best ability so far, they would be much further up the table.
-
yea, they have bought some impressive players this sumer, but will take time for them to settle etc
-
If you ask me, the best thing that has happened to Bolton in a long time, is the re-signing of Djorkaeff on a 2 year contract. A lot of people I know questioned his commitment after the world cup saying that he only signed up to aid his selection for the French team. At times, he has played as if he were the only one on the team. If only Bolton had another 4 or 5 players like him.
At times he has played some inspiration, if not exceptional football.
-
yeah, i agree, hes very good, i expected more from.. damn cant remeer his name, the nigerinan...damn whats his name...... ?? i think once he adjust he will be good again
-
MAN UTD ARE BACK!!!!!!!!
That was more like it, flowing attacking football, what a great game! Yeah, still sahky defensively, but 2 first choice defenders out, Blanc going off for Pugh, its nothing to worry about. Its about time we showed people what we can do, looked a lot better today, even without the nevilles (not that t makes a difference), rio, keano, butt, beckham. Things are looking up!!
And liverpool are losing, come on fulham!!
EDIT: And the comeback begins, top two lose, only 6 behind now! By the way - Everton, WTF???
-
Bolton would have won again yesterday if it weren\'t for that jammy lot at Chelsea. Lucky tw@\'s equalised at the very end.
-
yeah i know, liverpool only seem to play when there behind..... its soooooooo ****ing annoying
i wouldnt get to happy yet man utd, it happend a few times this season, that man u are back i mean, then aint
-
I know, but it was about time we put more than 2 past a team!!! Bring on the swiss, teach them a lesson the scousers couldnt :D
-
man, dont underestimate them, we did..... and u saw what happend. they might not have the most team full of stars, but they are a proper team, playing for each other
-
I seem to remember a similar thing happened last year though with Boavista. Exactly the same as a matter of fact (but you went through last yr). We had no probs whatsoever against them in the 2nd grp stage. Le Blanc is definately out though, could be a p.neville, brown, o shea, silvestre defence. Not so good, but Brown and O\' Shea\'s performances have been very good in recent games
-
we will see, they beat us, and celtic, and i still underestimate them, they can play very good team football
-

So why dont you post it in the football thread then? Or was that too much of a challenge?

You migfht have pulled it back against this lot, but you wouldn\'t get away with it against a class side. Basle have not been without thier chances, they could very easily got 3 themselves..
They won\'t win the tournament.

And had 3 men set off NOW thats a Game

Yeah, we take the piss out of each other from time to time, but when an outside force tries to stifle the passion that is football, the call is given to rally round.

its enough to make you cry
Result - Hibernian 3 Motherwell 1
23 Nov 2002 19:47
We took the lead two minutes into the second period through Ferguson, then Sengewald was red carded 10 minutes later. This was crucial as this allowed Paatelainen the space denied by Sengewald, he scored the equaliser before setting up McManus for the winner.
Then the game exploded in the dying minutes, with Pearson red carded for a second yellow. This sparked a brawl involving the majority of the players. The result was that ref McDonald red carded Partridge and Brebner.
Hibs were awarded a penatly with seconds to go which O\'Neill converted to make the final score 3-1 to the home side.
Terry Butcher sadi that this was another eventful game involving Motherwell! He felt that we started well in the second half and were playing some decent football when we got the goal.
It was a bit of madness as Danny got himself sent off and Paatelainen got the pace and exploited it. But even at that we were making chances when it was 10 v 11
He aslo felt that the ref was right with the sendings off as our players made teh decisions easy for him. We caused our own donwfall with the red cards. Its not good to Motherwell having these three players sitting in the Stand at Celtic Park next week!
Williamson – Hibs started game well, and put Motherwell on the back foot and forced a flurry of corners but couldn’t convert the chances. But we worked hard and I felt that the goal came against the run of play.
He had no idea what Brebner had been sent off for and couldn’t comment on the incident, and did say that this was type of incident that we should not make light off in the game.

Count me in!

Terry Venables, that\'s what\'s happened to Leeds United.
-
I blame Peter Ridsdale. And now he wants Croziers job, if he gets that, say goodbye english football as we know it.
BTW, Newcastle? Oh Dear! Shearer was lucky to stay on the pitch too, cant see them coming back in this grp stage
-
But Bolton\'s failure won\'t be as monumental as uniteds, because no one expects anything of them at the moment. At least when Bolton play shit, they do it for a fraction of the money Man U do.
My motto in life......"Set the bar low, so when you fail, you won\'t have as far to fall.
And anyway, they are picking thier game up now, so relegation may not be on the cards after all.

He may get more than that after publicly criticising the ref.

damn did write a long thread, but com messed up,
dont know how long ive supported liverpool, over 10 yeas def real serious, before then i was below 10, and i sorta supported them, but umainly cos my bro did, i cant really remeber when i started to really support them, or just when i did etc
and leeds, i hardly say its venerbals thought, more ridsale, i never rated oleary, but peter could of not let him buy players.... ive never been completely sure anbout venerbals, he comes across more a cockney wide boy, wo knows what to say to the cameras, though he done a great job with england...
plus he changed how leeds play completely, kewell is better on the wing, not upfront
-
GARRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

You talking about Diego??!!!!! Did you say good, or god?! To us Utd fans, he is a god after sunday!!!
Tonights scores (worthy cup)
Chelsea 4 - 1 Everton
Wigan 2 - 1 Fulham
Aston Villa 5 - 0 Preston
Blackburn 4 - 0 Rotheram
Liverpool 1 - 1 Ipswich (liverpool won 5-4 on pens)
Its Man Utd v Chelsea in the next round, should be a good tie.
There is no chance El tel will be at Leeds at the end of the season, unless there is a miracle, I\'d say the same for Roeder, tho he turned it around last year.

woo finally a win for liverpool, i said good, i like the guy, how passionate he is, dont stop playing

My god I\'m nervous about tomorrow!!!!
I think manyoo will win, but its gonna be a toughie, seaman is out, not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing tho!!!! I\'m at work again :( if I time it right tho, i\'ll be able to catch the last half hour on my lunch break though.
-
id say god for arsenal, bad for man utd
-
I\'ve been out, but did you know Real Madrid won the World cup on Tuesday? ;)
-
Can\'t wait for the big one tomorrow, my dad\'s coming round mine since I have Sky D. I\'m sure we\'ll get pissed whatever the result. We would go to the pub but they\'ed attempt to chuck us out, the language gets a little bad. We don\'t handle stress well.
COME ON UNITED
-
Oh yes, it feels so good.
-
WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!
Why am always right?! I did say utd were back 2 weeks ago, and did you listen?! Anyway, I\'m very happy, especially seeing as liverpool lost again too.
Good for Real adan, but apparently Solari and Makalele could be on the way to Man Utd.
BTW, today was the first game in the last 55 (not sure if that includes europe, dont think it does) that aresnal have failed to score.
-
Bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Motherwell 1 - Aberdeen 1
ah well 1 point is better than none.
:(
p.s.
it should of been
Motherwell 2 - Aberdeen 1
we were all over them after the Sheep S£aggers scored the first goal.
-
I\'m going to Man Utd Vs Deportivo tomorrow night, should be a cracking game, Becks is back in the team too. I went to both home games against them last year, won one, lost one, hopefully we can win tomorrow, and if we\'re as up for it as we have been recently, it shouldnt be a problem

ooseven, did you mean that for me or heat, cos u quoted me!! I was born in manchester and live just outside, I tend to go to most games, but havent been able to afford it this season. Was a really good one tonight, I\'m very happy with how we\'re playing at the moment. That loss to city gave us a needed kick up the arse. van Nistelrooy is god, good to see Veron playing a lot better now too.
Rumor of the day - Shevchenko to Man Utd in the summer :D

It\'s Terryble
By MICHAEL MORGAN from the sun
Leeds 1 Malaga 2
(Malaga win 2-1 on agg)
TERRY VENABLES came within inches of being attacked by an angry yob last night.
And as Elland Road turned into a war zone, Lee Bowyer appeared to stamp on the HEAD of Malaga\'s Gerardo and Michael Bridges was carried off with an injury which threatens to keep him out for a year.
Leeds crashed out of the UEFA Cup after this third-round, second-leg defeat to the Spaniards, heaping even more pressure on Venables.
The United boss was targeted by a thug just seven minutes into the game, with the yob jumping out of the crowd to lunge at him.
But before he could grab Ell Tel, the fan was intercepted by stewards and arrested by police.
Venables said: "I saw him out of the corner of my eye but the stewards held him back. I didn\'t really take much notice because I was too busy watching what was happening on the pitch."
Bowyer\'s moment of madness - which could see him facing a ban once UEFA have looked at video evidence - came in the 16th minute.
The volatile England star felled Gerardo with a rash challenge from behind and then, as the midfielder lay on the floor, Bowyer appeared to stamp on the side of his head.
Furious Malaga players surrounded Bowyer, while their coach Joaquin Peiro and his substitutes jumped out of the dugout to vent their anger at him.
But Swiss referee Massimo Busacca let Bowyer off with just a caution.
Venables insisted: "I got a good view of the incident and, although it looked like Lee wanted to stamp on him, I don\'t think he actually did.
ALL OVER ... Michael Bridges is in agony after Achilles injury
"In my opinion, their player was acting."
But TV pundit Pat Nevin, the former Chelsea and Scotland star, said: "He could be jailed if he carries on the way he is going.
"It was an absolute disgrace. You can\'t get away with that sort of thing. There is no place for that in football."
Goals either side of half-time from Julio Cesar Dely Valdes sent Malaga soaring into the last 16.
Eirik Bakke had equalised for Leeds in the 23rd minute.
Venables admitted: "It\'s very disappointing to go out of this competition because I felt that for a lot of the game we showed exactly the kind of spirit I am looking for.
"But, in the last 25 minutes, we went a bit flat and they picked their game up. There\'s no question Malaga are a good side, but I was pleased with much of what we produced."
To make matters worse for Venables and his side, Bridges ruptured his Achilles and looks set to be out for a year - or even for good.
The former England Under-21 striker, a £5million capture from Sunderland three years ago, has spent two years on the sidelines with injuries, returning to the side only two months ago.
Venables declared: "It looks bad and I am absolutely heart-broken for the kid.
"He has worked so hard to get back after being out for two years and now this has come as a devastating blow for him.
"He said he heard something snap and we will just have to wait and see how bad it is."
David Walker, Leeds\' director of PR and corporate affairs, later confirmed: "The fan was arrested and will be charged with encroaching on the playing area, which is an automatic public order offence."

Its Called football by us but 90% of the time the players use their hands to control the ball...what the F^&* is up with that ?

YEAH!!!
-
we should run a 10 reasons why American football is the gayest "sport" on the planet competition here in our beloeved thread.
here is my go
- Is played by men who "touch" each other...come on if you want to see a real contact sport watch RUGBY.
- Players are Called "Jocks" and ware Jock Straps to "protect" themselfs
- Whats with the "Pants" they are soo tight ?
- The game is soo dull, not even shoulder pads and crash helmets can save it from boredome.
- each team has a offence and defence team , in other words they don\'t play for the 100% of the time what pussy\'s
- They even get time outs what even more time off ? " the bunch of slackers
- Tactical elements are called Plays and just involve the skinny white guy called a 1/4back trowing the ball as soon as he gets it
- The field kicker only plays when a Goal kick is to be made, what a easy life for him
- Vapour snake loves it, so it must be gay.
- The game is "so world wide" that even us euopeans watch it in out 10\'s of well 10\'s
in fact i could of just sayed
- Vapour snake loves it, so it must be gay.

we are on our sixth thread with well over 1300 posts. You have a freaking long way to go, but if you just chat about gay shit you\'ll be there in no time.
-
Silly yanks and their homo erotic sport. Just go to the red light district, I\'m sure someone will let you grab their balls.
-
[american football fan mode]
yeah its all about beting the man with the oldly shaped ball while you touch soory grab at his tight pants
wooohooo lets all go on a gay pride march because thats about as much as such teams like the 49ers and Green bay "fudge packers " are like
[/american football fan mode]
-
Heh, I can\'t tell you the name of a single soccer team and you just named two. Hell, I bet you ask 90% of americans to name a single european soccer team and possibly some will get one. I think the Manchester one is a big name isn\'t it? Dunno.
-
Mancherster Uniter is a international Household name yes, but there are 10,000\'s of clubs worldwide.
Football is the worlds most popular sport
American Football is World known but dose not have the same international following.
i mean more poeple get excited at the World cup than the Super Bowl can ever hope to.
The Super Bowl isn\'t even broadcast live any more over here.
anyway back to the footie speek
we should put aside this and consider they are both great sports...its just that ours is more popular than yours :p.
and as for naming football teams
anyone in the UK can easily name 10 even people that don\'t even like football.
why ?
beacuse its been a part of our culture for many years.i mena ask any Scot what the OLD Firm isand they would reply.
"Glasgow Rangers and Celtic"

Dude this thread reeks of shit. Play a man\'s sport you women.

results after the winter lockdown
yeah atlast Motherwell is off the bottom, if we can keep the pace up then hopefuly we can escape the religation zone all together.
and it looks like Mc Fadden is staying at the Well too WOOT.
MOTHERWELL have rejected Preston\'s renewed bid to sign promising attacker James McFadden.
The Lilywhites had an offer for the teenage Scottish international rejected in the summer and were told to up their bid.
The First Division outfit\'s manager Craig Brown confirmed an improved offer had been lodged with Motherwell, who rate McFadden in the £2.5 million category.
"I can confirm that earlier this week the chairman sent a written bid to Motherwell," Brown told the club\'s official website.
"It is a considerable offer and is big money for this club. It is an improved offer on the one we made earlier in the season and one which we think is a fair valuation for one of Scotland\'s up-and-coming players."
But \'Well chief Terry Butcher has laughed off the latest offer, insisting Preston are still no nearer to matching his valuation of the highly-rated forward.
"It\'s absolutely nowhere near our valuation of the player," said Butcher. "It is the second time they have put in a bid, but again they are absolutely nowhere near what we consider to be his value.
"It\'s entirely up to them what they do next and we can\'t prevent people making bids because it\'s out of our control.
"But we obviously have our own thoughts about the value of the player and we consider that value to be very high. Their valuation comes nowhere near ours, it\'s as simple as that.
"We are under no pressure to sell the player and it would have to be a very, very good offer to justify it to our supporters and to the club."
McFadden is one of the hottest properties in the SPL and has notched nine goals this season as \'Well battle for survival.
But the 19-year-old has suffered disciplinary problems this term, picking up ten yellow cards and being sent off in Thursday\'s draw with Partick.
However, North End chief Brown will be hoping he can iron out that fault if \'Well accept his fresh bid although he could face stern competition to capture McFadden.
Premiership side Everton have been monitoring McFadden\'s progress while Bayer Leverkusen were interested in the youngster but baulked at the price tag.
SFA TO INVESTIGATE MANAGERS
9 Jan 2003 21:35
FOUR Scottish Premier League managers have been summoned to attend a discplinary hearing next month to account for critical comments made about referees.
Rangers\' Alex McLeish, Hearts\' Craig Levein, Dunfermline\'s Jimmy Calderwood and Motherwell\'s Terry Butcher will have their remarks made to referees examined by the Scottish Football Association on 27 February.
Butcher and McLeish will be asked to explain comments about referee Willie Young following a match between their clubs.
Dunfermline manager Calderwood has been contacted about comments following a Celtic versus Dunfermline game about Stuart Dougal.
"There have been a number of cases over the Christmas-New Year period which have come to our attention and the committee have decided that they should be further investigated," said an SFA spokesman.
"Obviously we\'ve got to ask them if the comments are accurately attributed.
"The regulation is there not to ban free speech or anything, but to protect everybody involved in football.
"The committee has got to curb that kind of criticism before it gets out of hand.
"At the same time we are sympathetic and know that there is a lot of passion and pressure in the game.
"It\'s just recently there has been an awful lot of criticism of referees and there are proper channels to make a complaint about a referee\'s performance."
and news just in, the SFA is investigating Terry Butcher, our manager is being investigated along with others over a critasisms over Referees.
Pfffttt come on lets face it most ref\'s can cock-it up with the best of them.

its because its sounds like you have used Soccer because you want to distance it from american Fooball.
there is no need for it.
when someone over here in Europe Talks about Football, we know what were are talking about.
and if we hear American talking about football we know they must be talking about american Football. (it is the USA\'s No 1 sport followed by baseball)
-
yes my boy and thats my point exactly I\'m an American so If I talk about football I must be talking about american football so the only way I would be able to make a legible response about your football is by calling it soccer so you would know what I was talking about. :-)
