With the holiday shopping season now in full swing, retailers have begun monitoring sales in several sectors across the globe. According to preliminary data released this week, videogame related sales including hardware and software have risen more than 28 percent in Australia. Players are spending an average of $2 million per day ($1.1 million USD) on gaming related products. Insiders point toward a sharp increase in the number of games available for new consoles including the GameCube and Xbox. However, Sony\'s PlayStation 2 continues to outperform all competitors at retailers in the region. Topping the sales charts last month in the region was Codemaster\'s V8 Supercars for the PlayStation 2.
