December 02, 2002 - Sega today announced the PS2 version of Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, the arcade successor to Virtua Fighter 4. Included in the home version will be all the features from the arcade version, including new items, stages and the two new characters, plus a whole lot more.
New to the PS2 version is a so-called "Quest Mode." In this mode, you move your player atop a map, traveling between the biggest arcades and taking part in tournaments, your goal being to win the national championships. To clear individual sections of this mode, you\'re required to perform certain tasks such as defeating ten opponents, winning five times in a row, and so forth. Winning earns you money and items, allowing you to build up your character to your liking. The five hundred different fighters that appear in this mode will have their artificial intelligence data taken from actual players as currently being collected at Sega\'s website.
Other changes are being worked on for this update, starting with an improved training mode. The folks at Sega-AM2 are also promsing better use of the PS2 system, giving the game load times at the level of the arcade version without the use of the PS2 hard disk along graphics improved over the previous home version.
The home version of VF4 Evolution is due for Japanese release on 3/13/2003. Check out these first small screens (what ever happened to high res?) as you wait for more details.

I already have VF4 so I can\'t really justify buying this as well.
-
i knew there was a reason to hold off buying VF4
now there is Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution :D
like the sound of quest mode :D
-
Judging by the screens(if they are from PS2) there is anti-aliasing.Cool.
Didnt buy VF4 so I will buy VF4 Evo.

Lets hope so.. Maybe namco/whoever can reveal how to do proper AA. ;)
The pics are too small to tell though. (I think the first PS2 VF4 were pretty clean as well)

My version of VF4 has virtually no jaggies, and graphically, is very nice.
However, they must have fixed the aliasing problem that was present in the US game, because I hear nothing but complaints from those good for nothing sons of bitches!!! :rpissed:
....ahhh :)
I won\'t be picking this one up. But it does sound like it will solidify it\'s place as the best Single player fighting game on the market.
Now all they needs are intros/endings for all the characters. :)
-
Damn... I knew I shouldn\'t have bought VF4. Guess it\'s time to do a trade in.
-
sounds good, kinda liked vf4, but didnt really get into it, bugger for all those that own it already.... sounds like there making a quite a lot of changes
-
I was hopin it would be on the Xbox, but oh well. I\'ll still buy it the day it comes out.
-
I\'m getting it for sure, even though I\'ll always have VF4.
Sarah forever!
-
Darn, just realized: No mention of online play. I was hoping this would be included.
-
if only they could get rid of the jaggies and flickering and I MIGHT consider getting this...
-
/me slaps seven.
Dont complain, it wasnt even that bad.
VF4 is one of the greatest fighting games *EVER*, I\'m sure some Tekken geeks will want to flame me. Too bad I cant find my copy :crying: . Akira ****ing kicks ass as soon as you learn all of his moves.

Lau > Akira

* Autsch! :crying:
dunno, to me it was... I never tried it out on my own tv though, so maybe it would have been better if I had. In that case, I guess I better wait for VF4E then... an improvement would still be nice though *thinks of Burnout 2*...
-
Tekken fan or not I am buying this one for sure.
-
VF4 Evolution actually supports VGA output, so I think you definately count out "de jaggiezz"
-
I\'ll wait for the Xbox version, with Live support. If that doesn\'t happen, I doubt I\'d buy it for anything.

Is it just me or will playing a fighting game online lose most of the fun ?
I mean a large part of the fun is from the jeering of your opponent who is sitting next to you.
And no I don’t think shouting “ahhhhh your Pish” over X box live or PS2 online whould have the same effect.
-
I never jeer opponents... : /

Hey now , you miss the true point of fighting games. The idea is to be the best of the best - for wusses who can\'t actually fight in real life. The idea of an online fighting game, espically one of VF4\'s calibur is promising.
However, I don\'t have broadband and probably won\'t for at least another five years, so count me out.

That actually ruins the game, IMO.

Thats a VF or Tekken fan\'s dream come true.Playing against the best.
I am with L-I-C

Actually, I say the competion started with Street Fighter 2. I call it the \'Ryu syndrome\' - the quest to be the best of the best.
:D

Well they could always add it in for those that want it (me) and keep two player. Have the best of both worlds :)

Sounds like Soul Calibur "Quest Mode" to me. If they can get rid of THE JAGGIES, I\'ll consider getting this game.
btw, I never like Akira. He\'s just an oversized goofball that\'s programmed to be way too strong unfairly by Yu Suzuki.
Gimme Lion, Sarah, Jacky, Pai, Lau, Lei anyday.
